The W - Movies & TV - Over 101 new DVD releases coming out 12/25/07 - or 12/26 - well, the period between 12/23 and 12/31 This thread has 787 referrals leading to it
(Click on the "DVD" thread icon to find threads going back to the beginning of the year...here are links to the new DVD lists for the previous four weeks: 11/27 - 12/4 - 12/11 - 12/18)
Hello.
Well, if I were being a stickler, we wouldn't actually have 101 listings below. It'd be 87. Universal decided some time shortly after these listing were originally compiled that they'd move up all their releases from Tuesday to Sunday, 12/23. The PROBLEM with that is, because the DVD week starts on TUESDAY, these should have ended up with "Rush Hour 3" in LAST week's report. But they didn't, so I'm going to go ahead and include them now. Otherwise, we'd REALLY have nothing to talk about. Since I'm NOT including previously listed DVDs from 12/23, that's why it's "OVER 101" in the thread title. (Technically, it'd be 105. NOW YOU KNOW. I could have relisted "Rush Hour 3" and saved us all a lot of trouble, but why do something simple like that?)
To see the list of SUNDAY releases, Click Here (amazon.com). I THINK that'll work.
So anyway.
For this being the slowest week of the year, "DVD Tuesday" is kinda turned into "DVD Sunday - and Tuesday - and Wednesday - and...next Monday..." Hrmmmm....
So this week I'm including actual release dates as I have them. Gotta kill all that extra free time somehow, right?
Really it seems a bit silly - it's not like any stores are open on Tuesday, and the post office sure isn't gonna mail you anything, so they might as well ALL be Wednesday, but I don't make the rules, I just parrot what I'm given.
For those of you who HAVEN'T been here before, these lists work like so:
We got the big list on one page! We get them from Amazon, and they'll take you TO Amazon. Hovering over links should provide you with Amazon's current price.
CLICKING on links takes you to the Amazon shopping cart with a friendly referral from The W - consider making your purchase - ANY purchase - through us, as it'll place a few coins in our tip jar!
Because Amazon sometimes can't come correct with the information about certain movies or TV shows, you will see some exposition from me (or, more likely, a bad joke) in addition to the listing along with IMDb icons (which can be clicked to take you to a movie's IMDb listing) or tv.com icons (which can be clicked to take you to the relevant episode list from tv.com)!
All links will open new windows, so you can click, look, and then close to come right back here!
If you don't mind my asking for some promotion, please tell a friend (or vote this thread up Digg/Propeller/Newsv??ine/Reddit/&c. with a click of the icon(s) of your choice at the bottom of this post) about this post because it takes me a long time and I'm a big fan of more eyeballs! We're also happy for you to email this link to others as well - a lot of people do that!
Please feel free to add a reply and share your two cents about any of the listings you see here - show off your impressive knowledge, share your opinion about something you've seen, something you're looking forward to seeing, or make your own crappy jokes which are better than mine!
We also hope that if you buy something, you come back and tell us what you thought about it! This hardly ever happens, but it's always appreciated when it does!
If you have something to say but don't want to say it publicly (or register for the board), you can also email me direct at CRZ.DVD@gmail.com!
OH NO LET'S GO
There really wasn't anything exciting enough to get the top of the column, but I guess I was intrigued enough by one release:
PICK OF THE WEEK Maximum Cage Fighting (The W at Amazon) (direct to DVD, 2006) Starring MMA's Renzo Gracie as - get this - Professor Renzo Gracie. Also, Jun Chong as "Master Chong" - WOW, these guys gotta worry about getting typecast! This one is scheduled for Tuesday proper.
MOVIES OF THE WEEK Let's start with the Universal releases. These have all been moved up to see release on SUNDAY (12/23/07): The Kingdom (Widescreen Edition) (2007) Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garman, Jason Bateman - I heard you may actually forget to breathe during the last half hour (if you can get through the really boring hour before it) Amazon still says 12/26 as I put this together, but I've seen TV ads saying 12/23 (and everything else from Universal is coming out Sunday) so let's go with that - Amazon will probably fix it later. The Kingdom (Full Screen Edition) The Kingdom (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) [HD DVD]
American Pie Presents: Beta House (direct to DVD, 2007) Enough already - Eugene Levy, I hope they're backing up the truck for you because there's GOT to be something better you could be doing. Wait, you were in "The Man" - I take it back. From the cover Amazon is displaying, I believe this one is the "unrated" version? American Pie Presents: Beta House Which would make this one the R-rated version? American Pie Presents: Beta House (Fullscreen) And maybe this one's unrated, or maybe it's not - if Amazon can't get the aspect ratio right, why trust their "R" rating against the "Unrated" on the box - oh, man, I'm WAY too confused for a film that NOBODY ON EARTH should care about
American Pie Presents: The Threesome Pack If you somehow missed "Band Camp" (direct to DVD, 2005) and "The Naked Mile" (direct to DVD, 2006) and had money to burn...please, just send it to me instead. Then, ONE of us will have a laugh
Intimate Affairs (Investigating Sex - Germany/USA, 2001) Dermot Mulroney, Julie Delpy, Robin Tunney, Neve Campbell, Nick Nolte
Only one "big" release slated for 12/25: Shattered (Butterfly on a Wheel - Canada/UK, 2007) Pierce Brosnan, Maria Bello, Gerard Butler - don't know if it was released here, but it DID get a big "premiere" a few months back on ... TNT
The Brothers Solomon (2007) Will Arnett, Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Lee Majors - Sony snuck this one out in September and it was (mostly) gone after two weeks - not the BIGGEST turkey of the year, but perhaps the biggest one Bob Odenkirk directed which Will Forte wrote. Yes, I'm pretty sure about that.
Jackass 2.5 (online, 2007) If you didn't already stream it from BLOCKBUSTER (blockbuster.jackassworld.com) - and who could blame you - you could still try to get a tangible version of stuff left on the cutting room floor from the last movie - that online version expires on Christmas, by the way, so HURRY, FRIEND.
12/26: Pan's Labyrinth [Blu-ray] (El Laberinto del Fauno - Mexico/Spain/USA, 2006) For those of you keeping score, this is the SOLE Blu-Ray release this week Pan's Labyrinth [HD DVD] Although, let's be fair - there are only 6 HD DVDs in this report, and of those only two are Tuesday/Wednesday releases - this one and "The Heartbreak Kid"
FURN FILMS AND DOCUMENTARIES OF THE WEEK FROM FACETS (all on Wednesday): Our Folks (Sami Swoi - Poland, 1967) Polish comedy - Facets How I Unleashed World War II, Vol. 1 (Jak Rozpetalem Druga Wojne Swiatowa - Poland, 1970) Polish soldier mistakenly believes he started WWII - with hilarious results - part 1 of 3 - Facets Two Laws (Protected - Australia, 1975) Aborigines struggle to cope - Facets The Beads of One Rosary (Paciorki Jednego Rzanca - Poland, 1980) Yes, ANOTHER Polish comedy - Facets Lee Miller: Through the Mirror (Lee Miller ou la Traversee du Miroir - FR3?, 1995) Sylvain Roumette on Man Ray's muse - Facets Hemlock (Shokaran - Iran, 2000) Iranian "Fatal Attraction" - more info at Facets Ballroom (Dancing - France, 2003) Don't stare at the picture of the clowns! Facets Men in the Nude (Frfiakt - Hungary, 2006) Writer has midlife crisis, leaves wife for male prostitute - oh my! Facets
12/26: Paradise, Texas (2005) Timothy Bottoms, Ben Estus, Meredith Baxter Robin B Hood (aka Rob-B-Hood - Bo Bui Gai Wak - Hong Kong, 2006) Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao ... and a baby. Sounds like a scary way to spend 2h06' of your life - TWO DISCS, even - more info and trailer at Dragon Dynasty (dragondynasty.com) Robin-B-Hood Same thing, $5.50 more? Miracle Dogs Too (Direct to DVD, 2006) Janine Turner, Patrick Muldoon, Charles Durning, Lesley Ann Warren, Jaleel White...probably some dogs, too
Universal has one for 12/23: Galactica 1980 - The Complete Epic Series (ABC, 1980) I think they made a mistake in not putting "Awful" where they ended up putting "Epic" - of course, they may also want to trick people into buying this...
SMUT OF THE WEEK (12/25): Heavenly Bodies I don't dare link to Napali's site lest I incur search engine wrath, but I trust me when I say Amazon's wrong about this being the Russ Meyer movie from 1963 - catalog number is NVP#180 if you're bored/curious Midnight Manor
AND FINALLY... (12/31) Juiced O.J. Simpson wants to tell you (about his notorious "Punk'd" ripoff) Are you serious? I guess EVERYTHING gets released eventually. FLEA will buy, like, ten copies. MERRY CHRISTMAS FLEA
And Merry Christmas to YOU, too! I'll be back Monday and see if I can figure out how to reinclude the 12/23 releases in Amazon's Top 24 preorders (or things will look REALLY bare) and we'll see if there's any more editing to do at that time. In the meantime...well, not much here to comment on, but maybe SOMETHING will trigger a response from you? ANYTHING?
Ultimate Fighting Championship, Vol. 75: Champion vs. Champion September 8, 2007 in London - is this the one that aired on Spike? Jackson vs. Henderson to unify the UFC/PRIDE heavyweight titles, Bisping vs. Hamill - 75.ufc.com
They should've done a Director's Cut version of this with a fixed judge's decision.

As should be Rush Hour 3 and The Heartbreak Kid, as well as at all other video outlets. All six soft-streeted (meaning they're not really supposed to be advertising that they're out [although I guess the studios are? -- I dunno], but they can put them out) yesterday.
Apparently, a couple of weeks ago, New Line changed Rush Hour's street to 12/23, and then the other studios followed suit by shifting dates to 12/21. Finally, a couple of days ago, New Line moved Rush Hour up to 12/21 as well (some places might not have gotten the memo on that last change).
Yes, it's fascinating!

You know, I think this gets a raw deal. It took them two years to find Earth and what did anyone watching the show really expect to happen. It was the 70s/80s. It had really cool flying motorcycles (Later used in MEGAFORCE!) and I remember liking it. Perhaps some of you might watch an episode or two now and see that it wasn't really all that bad. It's not like the last season of BUCK ROGERS or MANIMAL, or AUTOMAN bad. They just ran out of ideas... which seems to be the same thing with the current show, but it's at least ending before it starts going downhill.

I saw this at a FYE today for $14.99 and I happily picked it up. The WWE has finally gotten on the bandwagon and put it in the thin DVD cases instead of the folding box packaging so it fits nicely with all the other DVDs.
