Well its sounds like the owner may grant Kobe's wish. The question may actually be what do the Lakers get in return. Teams that could be interested are Bulls and the Knicks.
Well any thoughts?

Please let it be to the Knicks. The thought of adding Kobe to the Isiah/Dolan/Starbury madness is just comic gold.

I don't think Buss is going to trade Kobe any more than Peter Angelos was going to trade Tejada a couple of years ago. To get Buss to pull the trigger, a team would have to give up so much in return, you'd become the Lakers. One superstar with no supporting cast to speak of.

And without a premier player, who's going to keep buying those ringside seats at the Staples Center? Jack ain't going to keep ponying up $1000 a night just to see the Laker Girls jiggle, regardless of what Frank Caliendo would have you believe

I can definately see Kobe being traded - but I am not sure where. Does he go to the East, where he is assured a playoff spot no matter what team he goes to or to the West, where he could be a pain in the Lakers side.

Phoenix and Dallas COULD pony up the players needed to make a play for Kobe and still be compeititve.

And as much as I would love to see Kobe on the Knicks, does a package of Quintin Richardson, Eddie Curry, David Lee and Jamal Crawford get it done? They are all nice players, but would they get the Lakers out of the first round?

If nothing else, it will make the February trade deadline better this year.

I dunno. We've already had a summer of rumors with no substance and reporters swearing Kobe will not stay on the team thru the summer/be in training camp/play another game with the Lakers and it all ends up being hot air. Another four months of false rumors and less likely possibilities (offers are only going to go down the closer Kobe gets to that opt out.)

I don't think they'll deal Kobe during the season - it would disrupt the new team and force them to figure out how to play together quick - but I more so want Kobe either to be traded right not or no more words about it till it happens.

TCF,

I think by Feb., the Lakers will be so far out of a playoff spot that Kobe will basically bitch his way to a trade. At this point, once it is known that Kobe can be had for the playoff push/playoff run, more teams might enter the fray and be willing to pony up more than they would have in October when everyone thinks they have a realistic shot at the playoffs.

I too am tired of all the talk, but thankfully, once the season starts, basketball takes a backseat to evertything (the regular season is snoozeville) and does not pick up again until close to the trading deadline.

My prediction is if the Lakers are a 5 or 6 seed, he stays. Anything less and he is gone.

When Kevin Garnett hit the trade market, the Lakers did nothing. Then the Lakers said they'd bring in Jermaine O'Neal and ended up doing nothing. Then Shawn Marion made a trade demand and AGAIN the Lakers did nothing.

They COULD trade Kobe if they wanted to. But considering they upped their ticket prices this year and will do so again next year, trading Kobe would be a major dagger in the Lakers franchise. Why would I pay more money now for a last-place team than I did when the Shaq & Kobe dynasty was running wild? Answer: I wouldn't, and neither would any other sane person in Los Angeles. The day Kobe gets traded will be the year the Clippers reach record attendance.

That isnt entirely true...

From what I've been readying and hearing on the radio for the last few moths, they've been trying to make things happen as far as trades & whatnot, but they either dont have the right pieces anyone else wants, or the other team in question wanted too much in return. Here's some more on that from Mr. Buss himself from his annual pre-season interview session with the L.A. press:

"One of the big problems we had was that Kwame [Brown] and Lamar [Odom] were both injured at the end of the year so that nobody knew how they would come back. The other guy that was good was [Andrew] Bynum and nobody knew, 'How good is he?' Nobody knows yet, really."

Sounds like a DEFCON 1 again for the Laker Fans. This trade may happen before the season starts.

At this point, I just want this nightmare to end. I don't think I can take this crap for an entire season. Just trade the man, let him win his championship elsewhere, let the Lakers have their last place finish and be done with it!

That said, the ONLY potential win-win trade I can see is Kobe to Washington for Gilbert Arenas and a 2nd round pick. The writing's on the wall in Washington anyway, with Arenas repeatedly asserting that he'll test the free agent market. It simultaneously sends Kobe to the East and gives Gilbert the exposure he's only dreamed of. Sure it won't solve the problem of the Lakers' subpar supporting cast that created this whole mess in the first place, but at least L.A. will still have a superstar presence.

Does Washington have the cast that could work with Kobe? Would the Wizards just be the Lakers East?

Interesting point to bring up, because it can be argued that last year's Cavs were the Lakers East (I personally couldn't name any of them other than LeBron). But because the East was such a weaker conference, the Cavs coasted to the Finals. Had Kobe and LeBron switched places, it would have been Kobe getting squashed like a bug by the Spurs in the Finals while LeBron suffered a first-round exit.

To answer the question, the Wizards have capable second-and-third guys in Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison. They won't be mistaken for the Pistons (or even the Celtics), but they could at least make the second round with that threesome.

..except for the fact that Kobe is incapable of making his teammates any better and thus would have to score 50 points every game with the Cavs to make it to the NBA Finals.

At least the Arenas trade would make sense by giving the Lakers a drawing card back. ESPN's trade machine says that the Wizards would need to toss in Etan Thomas (not sure if his injury status takes him off the table), Antonio Daniels, or Brendan Haywood to make the money/cap impact work.

You could see the Mavs getting in the equation if they're willing to send Dirk back, and after last years' playoffs maybe they are. My sense of the local scene is that the Bulls wouldn't part with either Luol Deng or Kirk Hinrich - but even if they were, I don't see where either player would thrill the Lakers' fan base.

As a 29-year old guard (with about 10 NBA seasons behind him?), does Kobe have much more than four prime seasons left? Considering he's probably going to want to be extended out through about the 2013-14 season by a new team?? And for a guy who supposedly wants out of L.A., Kobe's actions have certainly made it as hard as possible for the Lakers to get a 'reasonable' deal.
