Hello.
It sounds exciting at first - a whopping 472 new listings coming to Amazon beginning on Tuesday - then you figure out that 186 of those are films from India and you get a little less excited. But hey, that's me. Maybe YOU were DYING to drop a few grand on DVDs containing the finest in Hindi dialogue, wacky musical numbers and (just maybe) bare midriffed women! If so, buddy, this post was made FOR YOU.
There's STILL a lot of other interesting things, so feel free to scan the rest of the list per usual, perhaps click on a link or two, perhaps buy yourself something nice, then perhaps later you come back and write a review, eh? Come on. It's the LEAST you could do, MAN.
For those of you who haven't endured one of these lists before, it works thusly:
Hovering over links should provide you with Amazon's current price.
CLICKING on those links will take you to the Amazon shopping cart with a friendly referral from The W - consider making your purchase through us and it'll place a few coins in our tip jar!
Because Amazon sometimes can't come correct with the information, you will see some exposition from me (or, more likely, a bad joke) in addition to the listing along with IMDb icons (which can be clicked to take you to a movie's IMDb listing) or tv.com icons (which can be clicked to take you to the relevant episode list from tv.com)
All links should open in new windows so you can come right back here after your research! (If you want - we're totally flexible about that!)
Please tell a friend (or vote 'em up Digg/Netscape/&c. with a click of the icon of your choice at the bottom) about this post because it takes me a long time and I'm a big fan of more eyeballs!
Please feel free to add a reply and share your two cents about any of the listings you see here - show off your impressive knowledge, share your opinion about something you've seen, something you're looking forward to seeing, or make your own crappy jokes which are better than mine!
We also hope that if you buy something, you come back and tell us what you thought about it!
If you have something to say but don't want to say it publicly (or register for the board), you can also email me direct at CRZ.DVD@gmail.com!
IT'S PARTY TIME
PICK OF THE WEEK: Beer Drinkers In Space (The W at Amazon) (1983) If I told you, you wouldn't believe it - I'm not sure *I* even believe it - for all the sordid details, hit up www.beerdrinkersinspace.com ...or, just buy a copy already
Factory Girl (Unrated) (2006) Sienna Miller, Guy Pearce, Hayden Christensen, Jimmy Fallon - I don't remember this at all...I think the Weinsteins released it under the radar...must be awful
NEW EDITIONS OF MOVIES YOU ALREADY BOUGHT (SORTA): Showgirls (Fully Exposed Edition) (1995) Apparently this is version included in the 2004 "VIP box" edition, minus all the trinkets - in other words, just that DVD, folks....but really, that's all you need. Elizabeth Berkeley, Gina Gershon
CASH OF THE WEEK: Five Minutes to Live (Door-to-Door Maniac - 1961) Johnny Cash, Muthafukkin' Vic Tayback and more surprises in the cast list Night Rider (TV, 1962) Johnny Cash
Ghost Train (Otoshimono - Japan, 2006) Kon Ichikawa's 47 Ronin (Shujushichinin no Shikaku - Japan, 1994) Yo-Yo Girl Cop (Sukeban Deka: Kdo Nmu = Asamiya Saki - Japan, 2006) Her weapon is a yo-yo? This plot is improbable!
Turning Gate (Saengwalui Balgyeon - South Korea, 2002)
SOCCER: MLS: Greatest Goals - 1996-2003 Shortest DVD ever - hahahahaha, get it, it's a soccer joke - they don't score many goals in soccer - hahahahahaha.
LOOK, I SUPPORT YOUR RIGHT TO BE INTO THAT, BUT...: Fetish Films, Vol. 1 Includes The Black Glove (1997) & The Elegant Spanking (1995) Fetish Films, Vol. 2 Includes Ladies of the Night Les Vampyres (1998) & Let the Punishment Fit the Child (1997) Silken Sleeves (2005)
THANK YOU, COME AGAIN: Eros is bringing their Bollywood release en masse to Amazon. I have no idea what compelled me to look all of these up - probably because I did so many of them the FIRST time they were listed, back in May. I'll feel really unhappy if we find out these are all being rescheduled AGAIN (it's happened at least twice this year that I've noticed).
NOTE: some releases are listed as PAL - if your DVD player is NTSC-only, you should probably be mindful of - ah, who'm I kidding - NOBODY will buy ANY of these
Whew! WE ARE DONE! For now, anyway. Come back tomorrow for what's sure to be an extensive round of editing AND the Amazon Top 24 preorders for the week!
Originally posted by odessasteps Factory Girl is the movie where Sienna Miller got people all upset in Pittsburgh by complaining about the city while they were making the picture.
That was "Mysteries of Pittsburgh", not yet released. Factory Girl was her playing Edie Sedgwick of Andy Warhol fame. I believe it involves her trying to get an Oscar nomination the Halle Berry way (i.e. nekkid).
FACTORY GIRL is the one where they tried to get people to go see it by slipping a story to the media that Sienna Miller really fucked her costar on screen... thankfully, it didn't work.

The way Putin is acting, in a couple years, it just might. (buh-dum-BUM!)

Quite possibly the most awesome double feature release since the ROBOCOP/TERMINATOR one last year.

HOT DAMN! This show was awesome when I was 10 years old.
Originally posted by CRZRoswell - Operation UFO (60th Anniversary Edition) double DVD - one narrated by Jonathan Frakes; one by Bryant Gumbel. Sure, why not
The Bryant Gumbel one is kinda sad because it looked like he was a total conspiracy nut. It was made for the USA Network and shown on SCI FI back in 2002. The second disc is from 1997, with Johnathan Frakes and I think it was shown on FOX, but I'm not positive. It was batter then the other one.

"but" what? Every guy needs to be tied up and beaten every once in a while, don't they? (TMI?)

This stars the very beautiful Madhuri Dixit. It's a love triangle and pretty good for a 'chick flick' night.
Keep in mind that even though these are all from a compans called "EROS ENTERTAINMENT", there is nothing 'erotic' about them. No skin flicks in this bunch.

It's not just barehanded catfish fishing, it's all of that set to an original score by the Flaming Lips! That might make it worth a look to some folks.
Chris, Thanks for selecting beer Drinkers in Space as your Pick of the Week. I really appreciate it. It's been quite a ride the last two years bringing this campy project back to life. Once again, thanks for your support. My fellow crew members and I will raise our glasses to you!

Frank is Frank Delle, the writer/director of Beer Drinkers in Space. They were also good enough to recognise us as part of their Beer Buzz (beerdrinkersinspace.com).

Okay, well now I think we all need to pick this up.
I watched Yo-Yo Girl Cop. It was disappointing. It's sort of a cross between La Femme Nikita and Mean Girls, which sounds awesome enough, and with the prospect of yo-yo martial arts action on top of that? Well! It certainly sounds like a can't-miss.
The problems: Not NEARLY enough girl cop yo-yo action, and too much emo high school angst. There are a couple of good fight scenes, but not nearly enough to live up to the name.

Well, we sold at least one copy of Beer Drinkers in Space through our Amazon links. Woohoo! Whoever bought it, please post a review.
//edit: As always, the purchases can be reviewed at this link. http://the-w.com/amazon.php?sort=date Be sure to ask about anything you see there - someone here bought it and probably has an opinion.
