Well, just thought I would let everyone know what a fun wekend we had in south central/southwest Kansas. We got home just in time for the tornado sirens to go off at about 11 pm and spent until around 1 am in the family room in the basement. We live north east of Greensburg KS. That tornado, or its brother, missed our town by less than two miles. For some reason it turned more northerly just in time or our town wuld be gone as well (about 1100 people). Lots of damage, etc and several homes just gone. Then Saturday night, more sirens and the basement again. Then 3 to 4 inches of rain Sunday. One area of the county received 9 inches in three hours. We were really lucky as 6 tornados landed in the county over the weekend.
My wife and daughter had just been in Greensburg the week before and we knew the community pretty well. Wow. Everyone keep all these people in your thoughts and prayers.
It's not really a "hot" current event topic but for those of us out here (KS, OK, TX, NB, etc.) it really hits close to home. Makes you appreciate your life.
Thanks for the note - I have to admit my geographical ignorance and say that when I heard about "Kansas" I automatically wondered how close you and SEADAWG might have been. Then I figured next time I saw you post I'd know you at least still had access to the Internet (which, as we all know, is the most important possession one can have).
Speaking of which, hmmmm, no posts from Jake over the weekend...
(Anybody else who is in Kansas and wishes I'd thought about THEM, well, I guess you didn't talk enough about Kansas before so I didn't pick up on it)

HERE I AM!
The really bad stuff wasn't near me, thankfully. The biggest excitement I got was the Mrs. going completely apeshit when KSN chief meteorologist Dave````` Freeman````` jumped in with an update just as the horses took off out of the gate in the Kentucky Derby, despite his repeated assurances that he wouldn't interrupt the race.
For a more local angle, less national hype, check out gbtribune.com or the wichitaeagle.com.
And By the way, the President will be at the scene Wednesday. I don't think he ever campaigned here but I think Cheney has. Of course, no one campaigns here as we haven't even held a primary this century.
My bad. As noted, I should have said Appelate judges. In fact, while even the numbers between Bush and Clinton's terms are about the same on even appelate judges, (Both nominated about 50 and had about 16-17 denied.) The difference is in the filibusters....
