Hello.
The plan REALLY is that I post these things on Friday. The idea is you have plenty of time to pre-order if you are so inclined, and the web crawlers have plenty of time to make sure that by the time Tuesday rolls around, people can use search engines and magically end up here. Also, more people are actually on the Internet Friday afternoon than are, say, Sunday morning at 05:15. The problem is there are too Goddamn many releases, and I seem to have this problem with cutting corners, as in, I end up never doing it. So. Here we are once again!
Since I DO tend to keep most descriptions to a sentence or two, you may personally feel I have given short shrift to a particular title which you particularly enjoyed when it was in the theatres, or were particularly happy to learn it was being released on DVD, or have some particularly peculiar knowledge you want to show off to the rest of the crowd. I STRENUOUSLY encourage you to post a reply!
Those of you who may have reached here via a social bookmarking link - if you are even a TINY bit impressed by the effort I've undertaken in putting this post together, could you please ignore the bad form I'm about to show and go ahead and throw a vote my way? Even one vote could swing the balance between a few hundred pairs of eyes and a few zillion. Let's face it; I'm not JUST writing these so nobody but you and I can read them...I'm hopeful that you'll tell a friend, and they'll tell a friend, and they'll...well, they'll stop, but that's three people right there!
As always, I have provided extra links where applicable to supplement Amazon's meager - and sometimes downright paltry - descriptions. I do this more out of a sense of displaying my OCD than anything else, but it's nice to know they're there if you need 'em. IMDb icons take you to relevant entries in the Internet Movie Database, tv.com icons take you to tv.com entries, and I have posted other direct links when/where applicable.
You can also mouse over the Amazon links and you SHOULD be able to get the current price, along with a looksee at the cover. Clicking on them will take you to Amazon proper, with the idea that we'll get a tiny kickback should you eventually make a purchase. (Purchasing a DVD using our referral is ALMOST as good as casting a vote on Digg or Netscape! ;-) )
As usual, I kick things off proper by making a
PICK OF THE WEEK: Bedazzled (The W at Amazon) (UK, 1967) FINALLY avaiable on DVD after years of bad laserdisc copies and occasional airings on FOX Movie Channel - far superior to the Brendan Fraser/Liz Hurley remake (but then, what 1960s original ISN'T superior to its 2000s remake?) Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and of course Raquel Welch star in a movie where one man makes a deal with the devil, and it all goes to pot from there. They even found some extras! Hooray!

News came last week that "Casino Royale" became the first Blu-Ray release to ship 100,000 units - of which at least half have sold, if Sony is to be believed. This Blu-Ray just might make it yet. (I notice there are zero HD DVD entries this week...again...)

Freeway (Widescreen Edition) (1996) Kiefer Sutherland, Reese Witherspoon Bong Water - Scratch 'n Sniff Edition (1997) Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Andy Dick, Jamie Kennedy, and a zillion others

TV:
Tom Goes to the Mayor - The Complete Series (Businessman's Edition) (Adult Swim, 2004-6) Tim and Eric's Awesome Show before "Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!" - as evidenced by the "either 1 or 5 star reviews" on A's page, you either love it or hate it - Kim LOVES it - 30 episodes on 3 discs (and hopefully the unaired pilots are in the extras maybe?)
Twin Peaks - The Second Season (ABC, 1990-1) I would TOTALLY buy this, except I never bought Season One and it's still inexplicably out of print, along with the movie that started the series...so I'll hold out hope for an eventual box set with EVERYTHING. 22 episodes on 6 discs

Her BOX - get it? Get it? (If you got it, regularly, would you even NEED this set?) Or, get just Emanuelle Around the World
Death of a President was a documentary that was shown over here in the UK (for some reason I'm thinking that the Canadians also had a hand in the production of it). It's actually a quite good, if drawn out, look at the many different faces of the American public and the general incompetence of the 'administration' (I mean the government as a whole, apart from him getting murdered, this is quite complimentary to Bush). It's worth a rent if you like all of the accurately fake news broadcasts/speeches, or just really, really want to see Bush get shot.
G.I. Jane was fun to see what pretty women look like when bald (hot, by the way) apart from the Britney cluster of horribleness.
Are Girls still Going Wild? I would have thought that hardcore porn would have killed that particular sub-genre.

This is rumored for around the end of the year.
Although it would be insane to not have a box ready in time for Christmas, I've been surprised before...sadly enough. "Rights issues" SUCK, just give me some damn DVDs already. ;-) (Although even there....well, I know everyone's looking forward to tuning in when "WKRP" comes out for an entirely DIFFERENT set of rantings and ravings from me...)

These have all been out since Christmas. Is this Amazon's first crack at them, since they were in Wal-Mart back in December?
Good catch - I think you're right that they are only "new" in the sense that they are new to Amazon.
The dreaded "This page was created by a seller." appears on the Marshall listing, for instance - I suspect if I went back and checked the other pages, I'd find the same thing on all of them.
Since I have you here, let's bring the list up to date:
There are non-crazy Scientologists? I am allergic to huge summer blockbusters, especially when they involve spacecraft and explosions. Cruise's involvement is simply added reason to avoid this one.
