I remember an "Unsolved Mysteries" segment where radio hosts did a "confess your crime" call-in thingy, and some guy called in and pretty much said, in not so many words, that he killed his girlfriend. The two hosts went on UM and said it was real, but there was an update later saying they were in on it. Sounds like the same situation (though I didn't hear/read about the one that happened today).
EDIT: I just listened to it, and she is much more brash than the one I referenced. It does seem to make it harder to believe.

You're talking about the infamous KROQ "Confess Your Crimes" segment of the Kevin & Bean Morning show. Archived article at TOTSE: http://www.totse.com/en/media/radio_free_amerika/radhoax.html
Could just be coincidence, but I can't help but note that Leykis had an afternoon talk show on another LA station (KFI) at the time of the stunt.
