When we all thought Detroit and St. Louis wouldn't win their series because they had completely stumbled into the playoffs? When we thought Oakland wouldn't win its series because they were chokers and Minnesota was too hot to contain? When we thought New York wouldn't win their series because their roster was (and still is) riddled with injuries?

Detroit at Oakland, starts Tuesday at 8 eastern.

I think it's pretty obvious that Oakland is gonna have to do more with RISP to have any hope of coming back. Only 8 times has a team lost both Game 1 & 2 at home and none of them have come back to win, but I'm sure the Red Sox would laugh at that stat.
I must say, the highlight of last night (other than Alexis Sanchez) was Steve Lyons (or Brenaman - I can't recall) going over one of the A's players favorite wrestler (Steve Austin) and then stating that his favorite wrestler was "George 'The Animal' Smith, whose son plays linebacker for Ohio State". One must assume he meant George "The Animal" Steele. He has Steele confused with Road Warrior Animal, whose son, James Laurinaitis, is a linebacker at Ohio State. A damn good one at that.

*on topic* I was busy this weekend, so I missed the Yankers implosion. I am impressed at how Detroit has turned on the switch and gone nuts in the postseason. That said, if the Motor City Kitties win the Series this year, can the Tribe please be next in the AL Central?

The Animal (Steel, as was said, not Smith), retired. Hogan, should be retired, Austin, Retired. Couldn't Lou Pinella have broken out with some vauge "you can't see me" reference. It would have entertained ME, anyway.

Cards sucked it up last night, but we all knew going in there would be plenty of offense with that pitching matchup. At this point I would give the Cards the edge to take this series based on....and really I can't believe I'm saying this...pitching.
Glavin against Weaver is probably in the Mets favor by a good margin, but then it'll be Carpenter and Suppan for the Cards in six and seven and WHO for the Mets? Even with Carpenter not being great his last start I would give the Cards a decided edge in those games, which makes game five almost a must win for the Mets. | Quezzy

Plus the once shaky bullpen of the Mets has now pitched 10 consecutive shutout innings, looks like they are back on track. The Cards bullpen, not so much.

I don't expect a ton from the St. Louis bullpen but we could realistically get seven or eight good innings from Carpenter and Suppan which limits the chances.
Honestly the only reason I say the Cards have the advantage is because I've been burned too many times by thinking bats would outdo a pitching disadvantage. I mean for how many years did I sit there telling myself that it didn't matter the Cards didn't have a great pitching because they had Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Walker, etc. Was never enough. | Reverend J Shaft

Not that Glavine was awful last night, but Pujols needed to step up if he was gonna be talking trash about the Mets pitching seeing as how he had been homerless and RBI-less in the series until last night.
Even with the Mets having the last 2 at home, they should be concerned that Carpenter and Suppan will have the next 2 starts.
