When I first read the Smackdown Spoilers for the week, I thought they had to be fake. Poop and Puke jokes aside, it was the "surreal" nature of the announced Royal Rumble participants that made me question the report's validity. But they're not fake. Sue me.
But really, what's going on here? Golddust? Mr. Perfect? Something's not right. Especially with Hennig being a part of WWA and Dustin working for his dad's group. Watch this wind up being midgets dressed up as the various wrestlers. Either that or they've done a one-night deal with some of these guys and this "old school" lineup is a way for them to re-introduce Deisel and Razor Ramon, rather than "Kevin Nash" and "Scott Hall."

I also read Godfather is coming back. We've seen a bit of Hennig in the past few flashbacks, it would be good beyond great if he was back in the fed, even if in a non wrestling capacity. I would use him as color man on a wcw tv show.

Yeah, this is weird. We knew Val and Godfather would eventually be back, but the other two? If it`s a one-shot deal like the Honky Tonk Man, that`s OK. But this also totally ruins the surprise and fun of the Rumble. No one expected HTM or Haku or the Big Show last year.

That's exactly what set warning bells off for me too -- indicating that things are amiss. I don't know. Something isn't right.
However, if they start billing this as a "everybody is coming back to the WWF to take part in the rumble" type of thing, it's OBVIOUSLY going to lead to Nash as the "surprise." And I wouldn't be shocked if Hall was with him and the whole "Shane had bad meetings" is a total work.
It certainly is a good way to do it.

FWIW, the announcements of Val, Goldust, Perfect and Godfather for the Rumble were accompanied by video montages of each wrestler. So, I'm tending to believe they're legit.
My money is on Teller (silent but dangerous), Willem Defoe (he was Jesus y'know), or Gandolfini (mob ties carry great power) And Giant Silva is too busy being involved in major matches in Japan, you know the place where all they care about is great wrestling and realistic fighting and where only true wrestlers are able to get over.
Is it possible that Vince would pull one over on a live crowd just to fuck with the internet?
I'm not disputing the validity of the reports - but SD! is a taped show. Any chance they are editing out the other two in the tape and this is just to cause a buzz?
But I'm guessing you're like me with this -- in that you get the sense that something's not right about all of it.

Godfather and Venis were going to have to be brought back eventually. Maybe with Dustin and Hennig they are just trying to stack the roster with a few more bigger names for the supposed split that is alleged to take the Raw after the rumble. That way when all of the WCW/ECW guys who are brought back the split, it won't seem like they have spread the star power too thin. Or maybe they just want to rape the WWA and XWF before they have a chance to get off the ground.
Does anyone know how many wrestlers are on the roster at the moment, between the active wrestlers, developmentals, and the vacationing ECW-WCW people?
They gotta bring these back!!!: "talk to the hand because the man don't understand." - "The Crippler" Chris Benoit "...and that is the LAST WORD." - "The Big Nasty" Paul Wight and of course: "Don't hate the playa...HATE THE GAME~!" - WCW World Champion Booker T
Here's a detail that got overlooked...right after the Goldust montage aired, they cut backstage for the Angle interview. Angle made a comment about Goldust. So, unless they plan to edit out Angle's comment, I still think Goldust and Perfect are gonna be there.
Wow! I seriously hope these guys aren't doing a gimmick one-off. I don't care all that much about Golddust, but I will be REALLY excited if Mr. Perfect sticks around. He still has a couple of years in him, I'm sure, and he makes an excellent commentator and even a manager. He's at the place where Rick Rude was when he died, God rest his soul.
Ah to hear the theme once more...to see him swat the gum...
It seems many of my all-time markout moments involve Perfect. Remember when he and the Genious stole Hogan's belt on Saturday Night's Main Event and smashed it with a hamer? It's now the Hardcore Belt, if you didn't know. Remember when Perfect beat Flair in Flair's final "career" match on Raw? Remember when Perfect turned face on Primetime Wrestling, poured water on Heenan, and teamed with Savage at Summerslam? Remember when he considered leaving in the middle of the match, but stuck around and began his great face run?
Heck, I even portrayed Mr. Perfect in a home wrestling movie once. This will be great. Forgive my gushing.
Meltzer is reporting (for real this time) that the Hennig deal is a one-night only thing. He assumes it's the same for Golddust.

It's quite possible, although I don't think they've ever tried such a huge misconception campaign before. For me, it depends on the TV - if these Rumble Return bits are edited out, then I'll definately question the validity of them. But, if they're on TV, they gotta be true....right?
They'd better not be pullin' my goalie with Perfect. Hennig is one of my all-time favs, and would be an awesome a resource for the younger guys as you could ever get. And the return of Val is way, way, way, WAY overdue.
