Results from one of the worst SmackDown tapings... sorry, THE worst SmackDown taping I've ever attended. Live from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto
Dark Match
Some Guy Who Kind Of Looked Like Tony Atlas over Johnny Jeter Vito (stepping in for Nunzio) over Jobber. Nunzio then quickly defeated the guy as well.
Velocity
Ken Kennedy (formerly Ken Anderson) over Local Jobber named "George". Kennedy still did the ring announcer shtick, a la last week on Velocity. William Regal interview where he explained his turn on Scotty Too Hotty. Regal was wearing his old BlueBloods jacket and said he was going back to his old ways. Scotty 2 Hotty interrupted, and Regal narrowly avoided The Worm. Bob Holly over Steven Richards (who, for the record, was not even wearing his bWo shirt this week).
Sunday Night He....er, I mean, SmackDown
Eddie Guerrero cut a promo standing atop a ladder, hyping his custody match at SummerSlam, saying he was doing this for "Dominick Guerrero" Joey Mercury and Melina (with Jillian Hall and Nitro) over Booker T and Sharmell. MNM were holding Booker T back so he couldn't interfere when Sharmell was being pinned. Backstage, Sharmell and Booker squabbled, with Sharmell saying he should have been watching his back. LOD 2005 beat Two Jobbers. Pre-match, Hawkenreich was given spikes by Animal and his transformation to the dark side has been completed. JBL was being interviewed by Funaki (odd because we could see backstage that he'd already entered into the limo), and said he was going to show Batista how he could perform in a No Holds Barred match... starting with Funaki. JBL no-contested with Funaki when Batista ran in. Cut a promo on JBL, who was fleeing backstage. Backstage, Benoit was working out when Orlando Jordan started taunting him about their SummerSlam match. Rey Mysterio over Simon Dean. Pre-match, Simon offered Rey a "family pack" of his Simon System, which would be discounted because Rey was losing part of his family. Nice. Christian was about to interview himself on The Peep Show, when The Mexicools attacked, which apparently has turned Christian face. Seemingly came out of nowhere. Randy Orton beat Chris Benoit (with the backstory being that almost one year to the day, in the same building, Orton beat Benoit for the World title). A looooong match that I'm guessing will be clipped. Benoit finally lost via Orlandoference, which brought out The Undertaker to close the show.
Bonus Match
Batista no-contested with JBL when Randy Orton and The Undertaker interfered. This led to Teddy Long announcing a tag team match, which Taker and Batista won. Easily best match of the night, but also the only halfway-decent match of the night.
Christian face?? Darth Vader says "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
geez, remember when everyone said it would be GOOD for Christian to go to SD? He went from main eventing and title matches to not even having a match at Summerslam and being made a face too quickly. Christian is a great heel. He would've been better off on Raw, especially with Trips gone til maybe October.

I semi-disagree. Raw has a big overload of midcard or higher heels right now (Angle, Jericho, Carlito, HBK, Conway, Masterpiece, Edge, Snitsky, plus HHH and Flair just waiting to return). Even with Jericho leaving after Summerslam and HHH/Flair not scheduled back until October, that's still a lot of guys who are in the midst of a push. Christian would've been lost in the shuffle on Raw...
....which is why his turn is inexplicable on Smackdown, given that JBL, Orlando, Eddie and Orton are the only real midcard-or-higher heels. I guess you could slot Regal or MNM upward into that category, or maybe the Mexicools, but I don't think we'll be seeing any of those guys in TV main events anytime soon. Christian would've been a perfect US title contender, but then WWE decided to have him lose all the time since the draft. Maybe this was just a case where WWE did a temporary turn for Christian's hometown peeps.
Matt Tracker: Great comix this week. But why not use the Trojan corner to feature the adventures Al Wilson? DEAN: Al Wilson rides it bareback, my brother. Matt Tracker: Waitress, I won't need this omelette after all, thanks. DEAN: He's too much of gentleman to assume that the lady he is with would have a disease and he's man enough to raise any offspring that should arise. HE IS AL WILSON.

Well, special guest ring announcer Candice Michelle (sorry I left out that fascinating part of the tapings in my earlier report) DID refer to them as "The Legion of Doom". That seemed pretty sacreligious to me....
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; July 5, 2005) It's good to see that the WWE isn't backing away from Batista or Cena. There's still some questions lingering over a few of the draft moves they either made or didn't make (Jericho being a prime example), but the stage is set for a solid run to Summerslam that may send the indicator down. The longer Triple H stays away is also a plus...
God bless the men of 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard...good luck, and come home soon.

Yet you didn't remember to say it twice. For shame.
It makes me a little bit sad inside, that Vince and Co. won't let him work under his real name. Damn.
Ah hell, he'll still be an entertaining heel. Plus, his "KK" trunks will make more sense now. (In ACW-NWA WI and other indies, he worked as Kamikaze Ken Anderson...hence the pair o' K's.)
Originally posted by Texas KellyI wouldn't worry about this being a full-on face turn for Christian. Remember, it's Canada, so it's probably one of those Bizarro World things.
Isn't one of the factors of "Bizzaro World" the fact that regardless of what they do, the local wrestlers are cheered as though they were faces (even though they were heels elsewhere)?
I'm not sure the attack on Christian by the Mexicools was a Bizzaro World thing....they're probably setting him up for a face turn.
Face Christian sucks though. Unless it gets him that monster push he deserves....
I've seen the following movies this year:
Coach Carter; Star Wars III; Batman Begins; Fantastic Four
On the one hand, I love spoiler reports like this. Because it means I'll feel no regrets skipping SD this week in favor of joining my friends for "Better Off Dead" at the local outdoor cinema.
On the other hand, I hate spoiler reports like this. Because it means I'll feel no regrets skipping SD this week in favor of joining my friends for "Better Off Dead" at the local outdoor cinema.

Not necessarily. They've usually done something with Christian beforehand to make sure he gets booed. And remember, we booed Edge at last year's SummerSlam... and that's when he was still supposed to be a face! So we ocassionally cheer local boys, but will for sure if someone was an 80's WWF icon; those are your only ironclad guarantees in Toronto.
But the segment just didn't make sense. Christian started off as a heel (making himself sound good at Batista's expenses) even though he DID get a huge pop.... then the Mexicools started destroying his set for no reason. Hopefully, there's at least a pre-tape or something on Thursday that explains why they started it up.
But if I were to guess, it really WAS a face turn for Christian, not just a bizarre Toronto thing...
If it is indeed meant as a face turn, I hope this is just a case of getting the ball rolling and not the actual turn itself. Talk about a step down if Christian gets turned face thanks to The Mexicools of all people.

"Ain't that a shame... throwin' away a perfectly good white boy."
That movie kills me, cause I used to have a certain females picture taped onto clothes hangers as well...
Man, what a year it has been for me... Real life really HAS taken the front seat lately. I miss you guys. Despite not being able to wiener as much as I did when I was unemployed, I still keep up with the WWE... through recaps. Yeah, I don't even make an effort to watch , I've been too busy doing other stuff, and really not missing anything. So, now we have a Custody Ladder Match at Summerslam?
Haha, it's so funny because I was thinking this up in May. Of course that was a JOKE at the time. Still is, actually. Sucks because these quality guys, Rey and Guerrero, don't deserve this turd angle. And man has that Matt Hardy thing ran out of gas in record time or what?
And since it's Smackdown, I'm gonna make a prediction here. Sharmell's getting that Stephanie McMahonesque "you're not giving me attention" vibe which I hate, so eventually she'll turn on Booker, and divorce his ass on TV. Who will she end up with? Hell, I'm gonna say it, Kurt Angle. She'll flip to RAW because wild beastiality sex is the best attention of all. End of prediction. Man it feels good to bitch again. Miss me or what?

Or maybe she ends up with Benoit ... and then Woman comes out to kick her ass.

Hey, maybe the Mexicools are turning face! Anyone think of that?
Just to add to the absurdity of it all... When was the last time Funaki did the "Numbah One Announcah" gimmick? It's been a while hasn't it? Long way to go for such a quick gag. And I might have missed it...
