Tonight's episode, featuring the returns of Michael McKean and the Lone Gunmen, is actually called "Jump the Shark."
Of course, it's about 3 seasons too late, but I applaud the ability to poke fun at yourself by Chris Carter.

I was so ready to just totally rail on this episode for being a clips show, but at least two jokes in the Kang & Kodos segment saved it for me, despite all the people who bitch about K&K being in a non-treehouse of horror episode. Those and the ending were diamonds in the rough.
Futurama was almost incredibly funny tonight. It seems all the good stuff from the Simpsons went into Futurama, since the Simpsons has been rather sub-par the last couple seasons. Too bad Fox is on a spree of cancelling the only funny shows they have. First Family Guy (again) and then Futurama... I'll bet Greg the Bunny & Andy Richter's new show are next.

| #6 Posted on 22.4.02 0638.46 | Instant Rating: 8.18 | I haven't seen any of the Sunday night shows (since I had the misfortune of watching the PPV) yet, but I did tape them.
The Simpsons may be the best show in TV history for having clip shows, but also making fun of them at the same time.
"jump the shark" refers to "when a TV show began its decent from good/great to bad/mediocre." It comes from the infamous episode of Happy Days when Fonzie jumps the shark. There's a web site devoted to the concept, which I think (but not sure about) is jumptheshark.com.

| #8 Posted on 23.4.02 2203.07 | "Jump the shark" is Pop culture feeding off itself. At least to me anyway, people who are in 'the industry', and people who feel they are close to the industry get it, the rest of us have never even thought about it until someone brings it up in conversation for the first time. Anyway, I'd have to agree with Fox being a big bag of suck. They cancelled 'Undeclared' and 'The Tick' which were both very good shows.

Well technically you are right, but it was a joke, so technically it can be broad. Technically that is. But only if you want to get technical about it.

| #13 Posted on 30.4.02 0928.10 | The X-Files jumped the shark after the movie. All the episodes were filmed in L.A. instead of Vancouver. Nothing has helped the show since then. Mulder's disappearance, new cast members, the "killing off" of CSM,and the birth of William (always a sign that a show jumps the shark.) The finale is supposed to answer all the questions about the show and it also has a trial in which Mulder could be sentenced for life in a military prison, with clips and appearences by former characters. Sounds like another show which went on too long which ended like this too. Hopefully the ending will be a complete surprise.
