The ESPN version (sports.espn.go.com)
The Sacbee version (sacbee.com) (probably need bugmenot for this one)

This story broke last Thursday, but I guess only I was interested in it so it wasn't dragged over here 'til now (when I got around to reading it). $42M for five years is the story going around. Is he worth it? MAYBE. The Kings would have paid him $6.4M for this year if he hadn't opted out, but it's probably not so much about the raise as it is the "long-term stability" or whatever you call it when you can get five years instead of one. Still, better to have him last year than Doug Christie, so as a Kings fan I really can't complain about his abbreviated tenure. I guess.

HOW THIS REALLY AFFECTS THE KINGS: Either Geoff Petrie will (hopefully) use the full mid-level exception to keep Maurice Evans, or ... he'll pull some wild trade out of his ass like he always seems to do and we'll all be saying "Maurice who?" (but probably not "Cuttino who?") in six months . STAY TUNED

Wow, is this really how the front office reacts upon losing the big free agent prizes (Ray Allen, Larry Hughes) and their future star (Bobby Simmons)? I like the Mobley pickup, but not for over $8M a year. Talk about overpaying. Mobley's a role-player at best and this could really come back to bite the Clips in later years.

And you thought selling Amway was his career lowlight?

The Clippers finally spend money on someone and it's CUTTINO MOBLEY? Good lord. Elgin Baylor really is a 'veteran of the lottery process,' as Bill Simmons always calls him.

"You can look the other way once, and it's no big deal, except it makes it easier for you to compromise the next time, and pretty soon that's all your doing; compromising, because that's the way you think things are done. You know those guys I busted? You think they were the bad guys? Because they weren't, they weren't bad guys, they were just like you and me. Except they compromised... Once." -- Jack Bauer

I was about to express thoughts of disappointment over them cutting him after he came back from taking care of his daughter to help them win playoff games, but I am glad that is not the case and it sounds like they did the right thing.
