I don't know if I'm going to watch again; I'm not really sure they gave us answers on anything, and they just gave us more mysteries I'm not sure they'll solve.

We didn't really find out what was in the hatch, or what the monster was, or what the polar bears were doing, or if there are other people on the island or a billion other things, it feels like; lot of cases we were given just information to give us an impression, but not enough that they couldn't change the answer by the time they got around to writing with it.

I think they owed us one big answer by the end of the season finale, and all we got is Walt randomlly getting captured and a broken ladder. Not enough.

I totally, completely, and utterly agree one hundred percent. With the number of plotlines they had going on, they could have easily resolved at least a few of them to end the season and easily keep enough suspense for the season premiere next Fall. Instead, everybody's left frustrated, and might (depending on how they pace the storylines next season) drop the show entirely after growing impatient waiting for something to be resolved. Then you get a ratings dive, and cancellation, and nothing resolved...so the diehards sticking around don't get any satisfaction either.

I realize this is just a possibility, but...damn. Just really disappointing finale.

It's incredibly appropriate that it ended with the characters looking down a hole.

I thought the question of "the Others" existing or not was answered when they grabbed up Walt. Didn't Danielle hear them say that they were going to "take the boy"? They were talking about Walt, not Claire's baby. They do exist. Plus, it explains how Ethan Rom snuck onto the beach from the ocean when the beach livers were being killed off: he (and his buddies) had a small boat. Didn't Michael say that they were only 15 miles from the island when Walt was snatched up?

I'll keep watching. Sure, there are questions, but now that I've seen "the others", it's going to be fun to figure out what's going on with them. I wasn't left frustrated at all.

First of all, greatest thread title ever (that video is the funniest thing ever created by man).

I am definitely underwhelmed by the finale, but I am going to exercise patience for at least one more year. The show gave me many thrills during the year ("Guys, where are we?" and Charlie swinging from the rope are among my TV highlights for the year), and I am going to exercise patience.

They gave us the 2nd baddest character on TV in Locke (behind Jack Bauer, of course). Underwhelmed tonight, but I am still on board.

Can any Alias fans tell me if JJ Abrams usual MO is to keep stringing us along, and never provide meaningful, concrete answers (a la X-Files and The Pretender), or if there is a light at the end of the tunnel, er, hatch?

I thought it was great and think its one of the most interesting shows on TV. I like that they setup Jack versus Locke for Season 2. I don't mind waiting for a couple months to get some more answers.

They gave us some open ended answers to the big mysteries. For the first time, Locke and Jack actually shared their opposing views for what's going on. Second, there is no monster, it's a mechanical device - we saw it pulling Locke with cable. Third, there are "Others" on the island and they came for the boy - the special boy - Walt. Fourth, Rosseau was the one who kidnapped Claire at first.

Personally, I like a show with a lot of cliffhangers and stuff left open. But we'll see next season if people share thecubsfan's view and don't stick around.

I will be back next season for sure and I am hoping that the DVD version of Season 1 comes out before season two starts so I can get fully caught up.

The big problem I had is the commercials. It seemed like every ten minutes, just when things really started to move, a commercial come on. I would have rather have had them cut the episode to 90 minutes and have fewer commercials. That being said, I loved the episode and thought it was well played out. The hatch is the biggest mystery and should have been the cliffhanger. We know there are others and they showed themselves. So now that cliffhanger is what do they want with the boy (Walt).

And I also too jumped when the HS teacher blew up. I did not see that coming at all.

The only frustration I have with the show is that I have to wait until September for answers. You knew that Ardtz was going to blow but it still was a surprise. I liked Sun's thought that they were all on the island being punished for something that they once did. Was very disappointed to see the statue in Charlie's pack but you knew that would happen too. I fully expect Michael, Sawyer & Jin to float back to the island on debris from the raft. I liked that that the hatch led to nowhere for now. No disappointment here at all.

As for the Abrams questions from above, yes - he strings it out and strings it out. It has taken years to get some answers on Alias.

X-E's co-Worst Poster of all time! JKyle.com says:

I was expecting better than "kill the remarkably likeable new guy" for the big death.

I was TOTALLY waiting for Ardtz's flashback episode.

Seeing Boun in the flashbacks is always kinda creepy, no?

As much I like Matthew Fox (AND WISH THEY'D NEVER CANCELLED HAUNTED GOD DAMNEDEDEDED IT!), Jack is really starting to look like a dick here. Locke isn't the bad guy methinks. Tattoo boy is slowly becoming the bad guy, and Sawyer called it.

Jin better be alive.

Charlie... why Charlie? Also, you'd better have a badass scar now.

Arzt had to go for blatantly breaking kayfabe early in the show ("you're not the only ones [passengers] on this island", "does Jin catch fish for everyone?", Hurley not losing weight, the "main" clique). He did everything short of busting out "I respect you, Bookerman" and hugging Hall & Nash. No other option but to job him out hard.

Anyway, I side w/ Roy. We got some answers: we know the "others" exist, we saw what was in the hatch w/out completely ending that story, and we now know what the "others" were coming for. What did people expect to be tied up in the finale? The point of the show is the intrigue of not knowing what is going on, and why they are on the island, so to finish up some of the major storylines would have killed some of that intrigue.

My thoughts,

TiVo is great, I didn't get to start watching until a little after 8:30, and finished at 10. There was a half hour of comercials. In a two hour show. I always complained about comerials before, but never kept track of just how much time is spent showing them.

The others on the boat, Was that sawyer with a beard? the woman looked like boone's sister too. I'll rewatch that part later.

They should have answered a question or two. Disapointing final. But like a good sheep I'll be watching next year.

Yep - so I am wondering if Hurley (it was great to hear Sawyer say "some guy named Hugo left 160 Million to his mother") is a primary spanish speaker, since the comic was in spanish, right?

I was pretty pleased with the Finale myself. Arzt got blown up (I assume) and I wasn't digging him as a long-term character. Sawyer acted heroically, as I hoped he would when the chips were down and raft got toasted (because, frankly, Gilligan never got off the Island and neither should these guys).

I loved the Arzt talk with Hurley (do you think your little clique are the only people on this island?). It's what I have been thinking.

I can't wait for the DVD - September 6th

Out of all of the big season finales, it definitely fell short of what people expected, which is probably a negative backlash against the huge phenomenon it's become. My girlfriend laughed for no shorter than 10 minutes after Arzdt went KABOOM! after talking about the dynamite, and since we had it TIVOed, she watched it about 3 times...

They're definitely setting up for Michael to be a bigger part of the show, as he's gonna be an absolute mad man in trying to get his son back. I'm glad they spent more time with Charlie, and the Gunpowder bandage was so so sick. Even though he had the religious statue in his pack, part of me still thinks he didn't actually take any of the drugs with him.

And was it just me, or did anyone else wonder what would have happened to Walt if he had taken Vincent with him on the raft??

That was my biggest problem with the finale. That "twist" didn't make any sense. Ethan kidnapped Claire. Period.

Granted, we still don't know where he took her and what happened while she was there. The flashback Claire had last night was unclear. Did Ethan take her to Danielle? That means he wasn't one of the "Others". But he definitely tried to kill Charlie, so he wasn't a good guy.

Maybe Danielle rescued Claire from the "Others"? And Claire scratched her out of confusion? Nothing really fits, and they'd BETTER explain themselves.

But the Han and Chewie joke was the the best thing ever, followed closely by Locke being wheeled in front of Michael while he was on the phone.
