... as if that's some sort of a novel revelation.

from the observer:

--Warrior did a speech at the University of Connecticut last night which turned into a free-for-all. Norm Mogyhtaderi, a sociology and history major said Warrior's beliefs were homophobic and racist. There was a major protest group and arguments back and forth, with Warrior screaming and stomping on the stage and saying he would answer all questions after his speech in a Q&AS format. Many people in the crowd were yelling and attacking him verbally as he spoke. Officers were called for back-up and the crowd was at one point told if they didn't stop, the speech would end. Warrior's actions were not supported in the end by the group that brought him, the College Republicans. "We are truly sorry that the Warrior did not measure up to our standards," said Heath Fahle, of the College Republicans .When it was over, the group even sent out a press release apologizing for his speech. They wanted Warrior to engage in a respectful debate. Warrior lost the crowd when he said, "Queering don't make the world work." When an Iranian student asked him a question, Warrior said he needed to "get a towel." As you can imagine, this caused another outburst. Other students then told Warrior he needed to apologize for the remark. Warrior showed a video where he ripped up an Iraqi flag. During the speech, Warrior admitted that he used steroids while in wrestling and called for other athletes to be as honest as he was on the subject. (thanks to Wes Jones)

Once again, Warrior continues to prove that he's taking oxygen from those who clearly deserve it more.

What a waste of space.

Not that Warrior's alleged actions aren't reprehensible (they are; that goes without saying), but why on earth would any university political group -- Republican or otherwise -- think that hiring this loon would be a sound decision in the first place? I mean, it doesn't take a lot of research for someone to find out that this guy isn't all there.

Should be only a few days before the 'Warrior was in Connecticut to Secretly Meet With Vince McMahon' rumor gets swirling.
Why couldn't Warrior start a riot for the C-Span lecture he had? And why, in the name of all that is holy and sacred in this world, would someone pay him anything other than a Paul Heyman check to declare his views? Hell, Backlund ran for Congress in Connecticut a few years ago as a Republican, have him show up if you are looking for a former wrestler to talk. At least Mr. Backlund is entertaining and actually uses words that are considered real by dictionaries.

You may get your wish...

This was posted by user, xfirestormx from the WarriorWeb site...

"As for video of the event, there were two cameras present. I have the footage from my camera, and an independent videographer will eventually be releasing footage as part of a movie about the speaker."

Personally, I'm just waiting to see how long it is before the Warrior puts up a new commentary on his website calling the College Republicans of the University of Connecticut "not real conservatives!!!11!"

I dunno, maybe Jesse "The Body" will always have the best summarization of the Warrior...

Tony Schiavone: Oh, he's a wild man!

I tried to send that user a private message offering to host the video, but I think it got hosed. I ended up with a PM from n/a to n/a.

Of course, I would probably just end up dumping it on to Usenet anyway if it was too big.

He's had this gig for awhile now. The College Republicans at my school invited him to speak when I was still a student there, over a year ago. He was on C-Span once for something (some sort of national Young Republicans thing?) and has probably gotten his name out to the college lecture circuit due to that. These groups don't care that he's nuts. He'll draw in a few warm bodies that remember cheering for him when they were 6, and hopefully his babblings win another convert for the cause. It doesn't make sense to me, but I guess that's why I was never a College Republican.

Alright - I'm in contact with xfirestormx (everyone wave to him in the new user spot) to see if we can get this hosted.

Sounds like the unedited version is 700 megs, so we may need to transcode it. Right now its in WMV so that rules out a fair number of people from watching it... I can try to do an MPEG maybe.

Right now I'm thinking of doing this as a torrent... I hope I can get most of you to download it and leave your machines running for a few days so that we can get this out there.

More to come...

Looks like he's hooked up with a speaker circuit: Click Here (yaf.org). One of these things is not like the other: Pat Buchanan, Tony Snow, Dan Quayle, Ben Stein, Ultimate Warrior.

I can't find this on his official site, but this showed up on the Observer's site:

All of the above notwithstanding, it is somewhat sad to see how utterly spineless the UConn College Republicans have turned out to be. Not a single UConn CR voiced any objection to Warrior after the event. The detailed emails between Warrior and the UConn CRs reveal that the CRs repeatedly encouraged Warrior to single out the Tent City Trash for some re-education. Yet, it now seems that the CRs have collectively decided to bow down and beg forgiveness from various extremist, anti-American, left-wing groups who infest the UConn campus. Perhaps the UConn CRs should refrain from engaging in political activism until such time as they develop enough backbone to be able to withstand not being liked by their opponents.

I guess you're referring to http://www.liveaudiowrestling.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=12883 - yeah, it would have been nice for whoever posted that to the WON site to have told us how THEY got it and how we can be sure this is actually Warrior talking without just having to take it on faith. Still, if it IS him you gotta admire the way he makes sure to piss off both sides.

Ultimately (oops) this'll be a bunch of people wailing over nothing. Back when I was in college, certain people had the same issues when Wally George was paid for a speaking appearance on campus - while nowhere NEAR as much noise was made about paid speaking appearances by KRS-One & Chuck D a month earlier. It's all perspective, as it usually is. (I went to both, and they were both interesting for different reasons.) The real truth is it probably won't be worth the time investment (in downloading OR watching) to check out the video...but so long as it doesn't bring down the server or get us sued I guess it wouldn't hurt to host it.

Having watched this, I'm more saddened by the behaviour of many of the students than I am by Warrior's words.

The man is a bigot, yes, but you'd think educated college students could do better than the f-shots and half-witted barbs they were throwing at him.

If I am going to the trouble to attend a lecture by a keynote speaker, I am also going to go to the trouble of learning about said speaker. These kids quite clearly did not. Shameful.

If I am going to attend a lecture by a keynote speaker I vehemently disagree with, I'm going to make damned sure I have formulated strong, well thought out and informed opinions and arguments before getting involved in any kind of back and forth with him or her.

These kids clearly did not. Wow. Just wow.

If they were so up in arms about this guy, why not actually do something constructive?

And CRZ is right -- it isn't really worth the time spent watching it. If you want to get upset about someone railing against homosexuals for a minute or two, go read some Jerry Falwell or something.

Warrior has some skewed thinking, but these students need to seriously question why they're in college if they can't deal with such an individual in a mature and collected manner.

Gee, now until tomorrow I have to imagine how Molly reacted when Torrie showed her why she won The Golden Thong Award. You can't easily diss Busta Rhymes. He is to Master P as Undertaker is to Pete Gas. Ozzy hat!! Ha ha.
