I've got a little extra birthday cash, so I was wondering what would be some good puroresu DVDs that are out there... and where to get them.

TIA for the help!

What's your preference? Toryumon, joshi, shoot style, NJ juniors, AJ heavyweights, etc.

I have always ordered from two spots: Wrestleholics Videos and Golden Boy Tapes.

Wrestleholics Videos
Alfredo is the man. He has incredible quality copies, a huge library and fast delivery. I have always gotten VHS from him, but he does DVD and I'm sure if you e-mail him he'll tell you what he does with DVD.
www.wrestleholicsvideos.com

Golden Boy Tapes
Golden Boy has a massive library and great comps. Excellent service. He does alot of DVD and also does custom comps.

Here are three other places I've been meaning to try and have been mentioned in such places as:
Puroresu Power (http://www.puroresupower.com)
and
Strong Style Spirit (http://www.puroresufan.com)

I don't know what style you're into or what you already have, so I'll mention 3 shows from last year I enjoyed.

Pro Wrestling NOAH Tokyo Dome Show - July 10, 2004
This was the best show of the year. This was a ten match show that featured five excellent matches including the Match of the Year (Kobashi vs Akiyama). When Mutoh and Misawa finally face off, it is electric!
Jun Akiyama vs. GHC Heavyweight Champion Kenta Kobashi
Keiji Mutoh + Taiyo Kea vs. GHC Tag Team Champions Mitsuharu Misawa + Yoshinari Ogawa
Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Jushin Lyger
Takeshi Morishima + Takeshi Rikioh vs. IWGP Tag Team Champions Yoshihiro Takayama + Minoru Suzuki
Kendo Ka Shin + Takashi Sugiura vs. GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Naomichi Marufuji + KENTA
http://www.goldenboytapes.com/tapeb-267.html

All Japan Banquet Special - July 18, 2004
Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Satoshi Kojima--I loved this match, awesome heat! Kojima taking the Tiger Driver '91 off the apron to the concrete is sick!
http://www.goldenboytapes.com/tapeb-277.html

Pro Wrestling NOAH - April 25, 2004
This show was excellent. Takayama vs Kobashi was great fun and watching Misawa with KENTA & Marufuji is worth the price of admission alone.
Naomichi Marufuji + KENTA vs. GHC Tag Team Champions Mitsuharu Misawa + Yoshinari Ogawa

Thanks for the help; I will check out the sites you've listed -- it's more a starter thing than anything, but since I do have a little extra money I wanted to try some new wrestling shows other than stateside.

Very Basic Thoughts on AJPW vs NJPW in 1990s
All Japan in the 1990s featured the best heavyweights in the world (Jumbo Tsuruta, Misawa, Kawada, Kobashi, Taue, Akiyama). New Japan had incredible heavyweights as well (Mutoh, Chono, Hashimoto, Hase) but it was their world class junior heavyweights who put on some of the best matches of the decade (Ohtani, Benoit, Liger, Eddie as Black Tiger, El Samurai).

If you are starting out here's a few of the Best of the 1990s.

Akira Taue + Toshiaki Kawada vs. AJPW Unified Tag Team Champions Mitsuharu Misawa + Kenta Kobashi

Misawa vs Kawada: History of the Feud
This tape is incredible, I'm sure Alfredo has it in DVD. The 6-3-94 is without a doubt, not only the Match of the Decade, but the best match I've ever seen
Misawa vs. Kawada (10-21-92)
Misawa vs. Kawada (7-29-93)
Misawa vs. Kawada (6-3-94)
Misawa vs. Kawada (7-24-95)
Misawa vs. Kawada (6-6-97)
Misawa vs. Kawada (5-1-98)

AJPW Real World Tag League Final 1996
Mitsuharu Misawa + Jun Akiyama vs. Toshiaki Kawada + Akira Taue

All Japan New Years Giant Series 1997
Mitsuharu Misawa vs. AJPW Triple Crown Champion Kenta Kobashi 1/20/97

Note: John Williams and the guys at Death Valley Driver (Dean you are a genius) are an incredible resource (and funny as hell).

Good thing about the DVDs from Golden Boy is that he always throws a bonus match on there. The 7/10 NOAH DVD had two great extra matches: Liger vs. Sugiura & Kobashi vs. Akiyama from '98.

Once again, thanks for the help -- I picked up the 7-10 NOAH show you talked about and a Michinoku Pro from 2K. Hopefully (and it shouldn't be hard to do) it'll be a change of pace from the 'E.
