BBC Article

J.K. Rowling has just announced that the sixth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will be published on July 16 in both Britain and North America.

She also said that one of the major characters will not survive this book, although that character won't be Harry.

I will go with the traditional, Hermine dies theory since that has been around since book 2. I expect that Dumbelldor will bite it since its the traditional Obi-wan loses to Vader, so Luke is the only one left to defeat him. Replace Luke for Harry and Vader with Voldamore.

On a related note, I got a magazine full of Harry Potter goodies, the chess set, a statue of the Phoenix and other stuff. What got me is that they have replica wands for Harry, Hermine and Ron. I picked one up for my ringbearer and thought it was dirt cheap with a $29.00 sticker and then they have gave me $10 dollars off, so that covered shipping. I got him the Harry one since, it came with the Phoenix feather, so that was cool. If anyone wants to see some of this stuff go to http://www.noblecollection.com/ I do usually pimp stuff but if you have Potter or Lord of the Rings fan and you need something, that is the place to go.

I stick with my pick from Book 5. Hagrid dies first.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I think I read...the first 4 books? That sounds right. Even though they got a LOT longer, that wasn't really a problem because I enjoyed the books. There was just too much lag time between the parts of the series that I felt like I was gonna have to go back and reaf all of the others to catch up and I didn't really feel like doing that. Very good books, though and I'll probably read them all at the end sometime.

I am beyond happy that JK told us straight out that we are set for July. I think it was her pregnancy that sped up the process, and we all win.

I'm going on a limb with this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Hagrid turn to Voldemort's side. I agree with MMM then that Hagrid does die in the next book, but after his turn.

I don't think that either Ron or Hermione will die in this book, but they will not both make it through book seven. Ron is my pick to die in book seven, doing something impulsive to save Harry/Hermione.

SCARLET: Oh, come on, you don't think I'm gonna fall for that old trick?
WADSWORTH: It's not a trick. There was one shot at Mr. Boddy in the study. Two for the chandelier, two at the lounge door, and one for the singing telegram.
SCARLET:That's not six.
WADSWORTH: One plus two plus two plus one.
SCARLET:Nuh, uh. There was only one shot that got the chandelier. That's one plus two plus ONE plus one.
WADSWORTH: Even if you are right, that would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus TWO plus one plus one.
SCARLET:(thinking) Okay, fine. One plus two plus one--(angered) Shut up!

For whatever reason, I've always been stuck with the thought of Harry dying to end the series. Just something about the connection between him and Voldemort; I can see Harry having to sacrifice himself to truly defeat Lord V. I think Dumbledore eats it in Book 6 though, for the reasons above...

I see all of the Big Three kids surviving through 7, but that's because I still work on the theory that in book 7 Voldemort will get Ron to go to the dark side by promising him Hermionie, who will have fallen for Harry by that point, and that will set up the final confrontation.

For this book, either Dumbledore goes, or in my dark horse, Ginny Weasley dies after being brought over to Voldemort's side.

Well, Ginny was already on Voldomore's side in book two if she plays on that it would be cool. I can't see Hagrid turning to the dark side maybe Ron on the outside chance of Hermine/Harry. I just get the Han/Leia vibe from Hermine and Ron. I do agree Harry will scarifice himself to save everyone since JK has stated Harry's story ends with book 7. I do thik Ron will be the one to kill Voldomore though. My theory is that a ton of people will die in book 7 like Snap and Hagrid. Voldomore and Harry will face off, Voldomore will kill Harry to end the prophecy, but he is so beat up Ron will be the one to take him out. I just think they have played on the Ron average wizard, but when push comes to shove he will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Dumbledore has to be my pick as well. He has always served as the "security" for Harry. You can't have a climactic conclusion if he can fall back on him for protection.

Dumbledore has to die, leaving Harry to fend for himself in 7...

SHIT! I already pre-ordered it this morning, but I didn't remember about the process here. You'll have to believe me that I would have gone through you guys if I had remembered.

Onto the topic, and without going too in-depth, there is no way that Harry and Voldemort can die. The prophecy is explicit about one or the other living and the other dying. So I just can't believe that Harry will meet his end. I can definitely see Dumbledore kicking the magical bucket though.

Hopefully the major character won't be a complete rip off like the last "major character" who died.
Ron seems like he is the most disposible. He has like 5 brothers. Or maybe George and or Fred. Also look for Neville to become far more hardcore in this book. After what happened to his parents he deserves to quit being such a wuss.
But what I mainly hope for is that Rowling comes up with a new way to explain to us the readers the rules and facts of the magical world. I am really tired of dumbass HP needing everything explained to him. I mean he has been there for 5 years and still comes across as a tourist.

My bet's on Hagrid. He's the character who would have the most emotional impact without truly derailing the plot with his death. Dumbledore still has too many secrets left to tell to bite it yet, I think. He'll still be around until book 7. McGonnagal is another possibility, since she's another of Harry's 'protector' figures, like Sirius was.

Maybe we're lucky and the Dementors will actually get Dudley this time.

On the other hand, I'm really rather tired of the 'this time, somebody DIES' method of advertising. I have enough anticipation for the next book, as do most of the series' fans. While the books have gotten progressively darker, the best part of the series has always remained the ability to counterpoint that darkness and angst with bits of whimsy and solid characters. The books are good enough that they don't need 'stunt' promotion.

Well, this issue firmly established the Hulk in the top-tier of Marvel characters. Last month, he took out Iron Man, but this month the Hulk took out pretty much everyone else.
