On the heels of the five year anniversary of "This is Your Life" (slashwrestling.com), I was reminded that amongst the many segments which scored higher than the 8.4 "highest rated segment ever", SKLOK had remembered the quarter hour ratings of the 6/28/1999 RAW (slashwrestling.com) as having the higest overall quarter. It took me a while, but I finally found it via a Google Groups t-netz.wrestling.wcw post...probably a repost of Scherer's numbers (but good luck finding THOSE at 1wrestling). Anyway, check out the LOWEST quarter for RAW...the WWE would KILL to get that - and they've tried - these days...

What is amazing to me is that each Monday 10 million people were watching wrestling, they are now down to 3.5. What also is amazing is the total lack of ring time just 30 minutes for a two hour show? Ah 1999 we miss you Russo.

And from the this is your life segment my personal favorite quote.

"That's right, Rock, Mankind has pulled out all the stops and he has brought to you your sixth grade home economics teacher MRS. BETTY GRIFFITH...largely acknowledged as the women who taught the Rock his wit and wisdom, as your home economics teacher Mrs. Griffith may have very well been the first one who truly smelled what the Rock was cooking!"

Didn't Scott Keith dispute that? I remember him saying in his blog that the "This Is Your Life" being the highest rated segment ever was just a fabrication by Vince Russo and that an Undertaker vs Austin match is actually the highest rated.

The 9.5 Overrun is for Taker/Austin not 'This is Your Life'. So yes it was Russo BS.

Perhaps the one from the 6/28/1999 RAW (slashwrestling.com).

I believe you can also find a higher rated segment with Shane vs. Rock teasing an Austin reappearance from 5/1/00 Raw. I wanna say that's the highest rated Raw overall as well.

I find it amazing that now Raw is pulling-in Nitro-type numbers. Actually, no - I don't find it amazing; present Raws aren't much better than Nitros then were. However, Nitro was more bearable, since I could always just flip to Raw.

I'm ScreamingHeadGuy, and I approve this post.

I always thought the highest rated Raw was headlined with a Austin/Rock/Vince vs. Taker/HHH/Shane 6-man tag match?

Nitro when? If you're saying 1997 then maybe. If you're talking 1999 or 2000, no way Raw is that bad.

EDIT: I got my dates wrong 5/10/99 wasn't RAW is Owen. Maybe it was the overrun of that show that was the highest ever segment. I remember it always coming up in the WON.

The 5/10/99 was 'RAW is Owen' which is why its generally disregarded.

Huuuuuuum. Didn't Owen died in the third week of May? I remember it was near my best friend's birthday and his birthday is May 26th.

Also...

OVERRUN:
05/10/99: 9.2
05/01/00: 9.1

However, given the different number of viewers represented by a ratings point in different years, that *might* be the same size audience.

Christ, I never really thought the current ratings were THAT bad until I saw this a couple hours ago. Really puts things in perspective to look at a show where the lowest quarter is something we would treat now like the Second Coming.

I'm still in shock at the 6.0's they were getting back then when a lot of their material was worked around dink and fart jokes.

Thank you for making me cry for 20 minutes...

I would be surprised if they stole many MNF swing viewers with Helmsley kicking off the show this week. Tuna and Gibbs could have really put the screws to them this week.

OK, putting some stuff in order for fun.

Most Watched Matches in the History of Pro Wrestling on Cable TV:
1. Austin vs. Undertaker, 6/28/99 (10,721,000 viewers)
2. Rock vs. Shane, 5/1/00 (10,576,500)
3. Austin & Rock & Vince vs. Undertaker & HHH & Shane, 5/10/99 (10,452,000)
4. Rock & Jericho vs. HHH & Benoit, 4/24/00 (9,984,000)

And as we determined through trial and error, the Highest Rated Raws:
1. 5/10/99 (Austin/Rock/Vince tag) - 8.13*
2. 5/1/00 (Rock/Shane) - 7.42**
3. 5/24/99 (Owen Hart tribute) - 7.20
4. 4/24/00 (Rock-Jericho tag) - 7.13**

* unopposed by Nitro
** unopposed second hour

So, what was the best that Nitro ever did?

That's possible, but I'm talking about a wrestling match that took place in Chicago before a WCW years ago (like 92 or 93). I remember this too. It was back when Bonaduce was working as a DJ here at WLUP.
