http://www.angelfire.com/ ca7/loyaltubist/Main.htmlBefore there was Gatorade, there was Pocari Sweat. The name comes from the idea that this would replace the sweat you'd lose in physical activity, so why not just drink some sweat!

You can find it all over Asia and on the island of Guam as well as Hawaii and the Northern Marianas Islands. Sometimes you can find it at an Asian grocer.

Here's a link where you can read all about it:

Had this stuff while in Japan once. Doesn't even compare to Gatorade in taste, but its better than most of the US Gatorade knockoffs. Still, its pretty weird drinking out of a bottled labeled with "Sweat".

I got this from an asian grocery store in Cleveland once. Not bad, but not great. Now I finally know why the hell it's called sweat though.

I used to drink this once in a while when I was in Japan, but I preferred Aquarius, and would pick that up every chance I got and then some. Same principleas Pocari Sweat, but less salty. Other great drinks I had in Japan:

Water Salad--tasted like the water at the bottom of a fruit salad. Tasty, but a little on the "light" side.

Mitsuya Cider-- The Greatest Drink in the World. Ever. Seriously, I've never had anything better than this in any country, in my whole life. I later found it at an Asian grocer about an hour away from college, but now that's about 6 hours away from where I am now. I hate my life.

Pocari Sweat is a staple in any Asian taxi driver's cab. I know because i've seen. hah. And Aquarias, wasn't that made by Coca-Cola? If it is the same one, I remember trying that back in the day too. That was really good. Didn't know it was a sports drink though.

God I hate Pocari Sweat and all it's ilk. But the worst would have to be Calpis anything (cow piss). I'll take my Gatorade over that any day. And lately Gatorade has been sweeter then Kool-Aid. It can't be healthy anymore, I can't stop drinking. People in Japan that has no connection to the military bases here have to do with Gatorade in one flavor only Lime. Suckers.

And Amen to the poster about the goodness of Mitsuya Cider. I love the grape flavor too. There is nothing better then downing an ice cold Mitsuya Cider after a work out. I keep a 2- litter in the fridge at all times. I love the way it feels like my throat is burning when I take the first gulp.

I've never tried it, but there's a can of it in my fridge right now.

Hang on a sec.

Actually, it's not too bad. It's got a very light grapefruity taste. I might buy some more the next time I'm at the Japanese mall, but probably not unless I'm planning to drink it in public as a conversation piece. (And besides, I'm more likely to spend my Japanese mall money on Pocky and Moomin* toys.)

*Moomins are Finnish, of course, but I guess they're pretty popular in Japan, too.

No problem with Blockbuster here. The closest one is 80 miles away. DirecTV pay-per-view works much better.
