I'm sure they've merely sold out which is why you can no longer find it. To discontinue such a masterpiece has to be some form of fashion sacrilege.
Silk ties in general truly are the spawn of the devil. I simply can't find any way to get anything approaching longevity from one. Even when you only dry clean sooner or later it starts to get scrunchy. And every one of them is either utterly iron resistant or simply melts on impact with even the slightest application of heat, which leaves you with an irretrievably crumpled garment.

What you can no longer find is Fowad.
Fowad was a shady ghetto bargain basement (literally) full of clothes that had fallen out the backs of countless vans and trucks all over our great nation. It closed down to be replaced by, I believe, a Washington Mutual branch office. More on Fowad, and the general changing face of my old neighborhood, can be found on some dude's blog here.
That picture was taken about eight years ago from my 14th floor apartment window in a series of photos documenting the cleanup of a wicked car crash in the intersection of Broadway and 96th. (Check out the blood!) Thank goodness those pictures can serve some purpose to the youth of today.

Wow, that looks like a brutal crash. Thanks for pointing out the pool of blood in the crosswalk there. I might have missed it.

There was major pedestrian traffic from the subway stop, then 96th was a throughway to the West Side Highway on one side and to the East Side on the other, throw in a lot of buses and it was always a big mess. I lived in that apartment for eight years so there was a lot of running to windows after hearing loud crash noises, at least once a month on average.
The other pictures aren't terribly interesting -- the minivan gets towed upright and away, then firemen come in and spray off the pavement, the end. The pictures in your mind are probably more exciting. The most exciting part is the pictorial document of the Upper West Side legend that is forever FOWAD

Aha. I'm assuming thus that the presence of the police in said area was by no means a one off occurance then, even in the absence of car accidents.
I'm convinced these shops just regenerate in any case though. As soon as one shuts down another appears elsewhere in the city within weeks and under ownership who look curiously familiar.
I suppose the Barras in Glasgow would be the biggest we've got but its got almost cockroach-like survival tendancies which enable it to survive the nigh on weekly police raids it endures. | Stefonics
