China has us on numbero f troops, no question, but our technology is a generation or two ahead of theirs. Plus, this is still Communism so Soviet-style levels of Quality Control are probably also at play here.

Again, on the China front, they would only have an advantage if we sent ground troops in. If not, we could slowly, and yes, it would be SLOWLY dismantle them via air strikes and missles.

And, if they ever tried to get to our shores, they would be dead in short order.

Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.

I had a good friend of mine who did a 3 year stint in the Army, and I asked him who, if anyone, they were worried about. He stated that in terms of technology and training, no one. But in terms of sheer size, they were very worried about anything involving China. He said their numbers alone could balance things...

Just curious if you agree with his assesment.....

Seriously, at the time I was in, it was the Sovs, of course - but second was Korea, primarily because the Red Chinese were on their side. I am sure that's the way it is today as well.

Seriously, though, it should be criminal that with the amount of money that gets taken out of our taxes for "national defense" such a tiny percentage winds up going to the people who put their asses on the line for it, with the majority going to some jackasses and their pet research projects. They get away with wasting so much money on shit that's either useless or so expensive as to be useless, and nobody seems to have the balls to say "nope, sorry, we're not giving you any more money to research talking bullets" because they'd be OMG UNDERMINING OUR NATIONAL SECURITY.

Given the money we waste on everything the government ever does, ever, I personally don't care that much if the military is a little inefficient. In a perfect world, sure, we wouldn't waste any money. But given the staggering number of discretionary government programs, i.e. programs that have no basis in the Constitution and exist simply to buy votes, I'm not going to begrudge the military a few billion. I'd rather research talking bullets then pay some poor soul to shoot heroin in his veins, or to throw money at our public schools, when study after study proves that it isn't doing a damn thing.

Hell, I live in Massachusetts, and I drive through Boston several times a week. You want to talk about a waste of money, look at the Big Dig. Thanks to Teddy K., many millions of your tax dollars are going to fund a horribly mismanaged road construction project. Amusing that the Democrats are constantly clamoring for more highway bills to create jobs when you drive through downtown Boston and see the results. (Though, as a side benefit, the city is littered with signs reading "Glory Hole (#)." I don't know what a glory hole is in this context, but it makes me laugh. )

I think the point I've buried in all of this verbosity is that the government is, quite simply, in the business of wasting money. It is damned near impossible for the US Gov't to tax and spend your money efficiently. If we operate from the assumption that a percentage of all your tax money is going to be wasted (and it is, for sure), then I think it becomes less "outrageous" that the military spends the occasional billion researching something silly, like the "Stryker." [Aside: Everything I've read on this thing makes it sound useless, and a piece of pork for the state of HI. Any servicemen with contrary opinions?] Which is the greater offense: Spending inefficiently on keeping us safe, or spending inefficiently on a program that was inneficient to start with, i.e. public schools, etc.?

Lastly, whatever you made in the service, RDC, we can certainly afford to give you guys more. With the salaries and perks afforded to useless gov't bureaucrats nationwide, the people on the pointy end of the spear ought to be well provided for.

Big Dig/Millions? That's insulting to all the people who took kickbacks/went over budget. You mean Billion. Around 12-15 Billion to be closer to the figure. And while Teddy has helped jack it up, I think this was a going away project to Tip O'Neill when it started. And considering he's been out of office over 15 years and dead for a decade, that tells you how long they've been at the trough on this one.

Why is TVLand stealing my ideas from DEAN's Workrate Report's? They had to be stealing, as I thought I had the only demented mind that could put Bea Arthur and Abe Vigoda in a sex scene.

It depends on what we are trying to do. Could we invade and conquer China and take Beijing like we did Iraq and Baghdad? Not a chance in hell. Not on our own anyway. On neutral ground we could beat them, like if they decided to Invade Russia or South Korea. Or if they decided to try and invade Taiwan. In these types of wars we would take a beating but we would win. But invasion is a whole different beast.

Like I said before, our people have mastered the art of Joint warfare. Our Land, sea, air, and special ops forces can fight as one unit which gives us an advantage. Thats what you need to defeat an enemy who is numerically superior. The Soviet military was way bigger than ours so we had to plan to fight them more efficiently, by using our forces as one.

Well, well, well. If it isn't the serious, elusive, Leroy Green. I've been waiting a long time for this Leroy. I am sick and tired of hearing these bullshit Superman stories about the wassa legendary Bruce Leroy catching bullets with his teeth. Catches bullets with his teeth? Nigga please.

Interesting tidbit. Kerry polls lower in Iowa with Vilsack on his ticket than he does without.
