Adam Ryland is making Total Extreme Warfare now, which will allegedly be out within the next two months. Anybody planning on buying it? I'm sort of on the fence. While I'm not opposed to paying money for a game, I'm not too crazy about paying $30 for a text-based wrestling simulator. Actually, there were things I liked about the older EW games that got lost over the various upgrades. I'd kind of like to play an on-screen Vince McMahon type of role, in some kind of kayfabe version of EWR where you don't always control the outcome of the matches. That was kind of fun, when someone like X-Pac would upset Steve Austin for the world title.
Also, does anyone know of a good career game, like ESWF? Only, one that's maybe a little more actively updated (and where wins and losses determine if you'll get a world title shot, for instance).
This will get added at the end of each post you make, below an horizontal line. This should preferably be kept to a small enough size.
I have a feeling that a lot of people (including myself) will be turned off from buying Total Extreme Warfare based on the fact that it uses completely fictional rosters, no real wrestlers at all. Granted, they probably couldn't get the WWE licenses for such a game even if they could afford to, so it's not really something you can hold against them, but the lack of real wrestlers kills a lot of interest in the game for me.
The problem is that they can't sell the game using trademarked (or is it copyrighted) names without the everyone involved's permission, and even if the WWE and TNA didn't care and gave Adam their blessing, he'd still have to track down every indy wrestler he used just to make sure he had his or her permission.
That said, RaveX is allegedly working with Adam to make a free download scenario that will allow you play the game with real wrestlers. The end result is that you will be able to download TEW and play as the WWE, its just that there will be a few extra steps involved as compared to EWR (namely payment, an extra download, and configuring said download).
I doubt I'll download TEW, although I say that having drifted away from the hype. $30 is more than I can afford right now, and I think I got my fantasy booking/wrestling simulation fix with EWR over the summer. Then again, I'm sure once people start talking about it... (Of course, I felt the same way about HCtP two months before its release, and I was able to avoid that, so maybe a trend is starting. Then again, I've been addicted to Madden of late...)
Time to go kick more light side ass, KotOR style!
