If the penguin hits the ground before 190, he'll bounce, and the point of his first bounce will be a little under 60% of the final distance. If he hits the ground past 190, he'll go splat. So if you're hitting fly balls right around 190 (I just got 191.1), you're just missing monster scores.
The collision detection algorithm prevents a lot of potentially steep angles, meaning that pop flies all seem to land in that 190-207 range.

I just popped one up (and had it stick in the ground) at 189.1. Just wanna let ya know. I thought I was gonna get a monster score.
I've gotten it to stick in the ground exactly at 200 twice and once at 199.9... It's fun 
EDIT: Two tries after posting I hit 323.5 Don't know if any more is possible 
2nd EDIT: I just got a low of 56 point something, although it looked like I swung and missed. Hmm

I just got a *splat* at 190.2, so I'd say you're right on there.
EDIT: I just got a *splat* at 189.7. I'd quite doing this if I could get above 320!

I have no idea how you guys managed to hit that penguin so softly. My best wiff is in the low 60's.
Also, hitting penguins into the air while listening to the Two Towers theme (the Requiem remix) is way more amusing than it ought to be. It makes me feel like the world is gonna end if those penguins don't fly.
