This is for those evil little browser boxes that pop up telling you to click Yes to install someone's spyware disguised as "Comet Cursor" or "enhancements" to IE. Regular popup stoppers like the Google program I use can't prevent them. This freeware program seems to work well so far. It's also supposed to keep spyware already lurking on your machine from operating.
YOUR Out-Of-Context Quote of Whenever (thanks, MoeGates!): "I wish MY countrymen weren't so uptight about stuff like outdoor marajuana use and casual man-on-man anal love."I believe Mozilla does that too... if not, there's a component that lets you block those, and Flash ads.
In other news, I need to get my comp set up. I'd forgotten how much I loathe MSN Explorer. >_<

"A-Train could wear a Vampirella outfit and I would toast a load to it."
In IE, under Security, you can disable or force prompts for various ActiveX controls. The only problem is that many bloated sites simply don't work without ActiveX, and if you set it to Prompt, you get multiple hit-yes-to-continue boxes on each page that are almost as annoying as the popups.
"As far as my lack of professional courtesy and my obvious immature humor in referring to using your head as a pickle jar, well, I reserve my courtesy for those whom I respect. Your lack of personal integrity has given me much grief, and I find that thinking of your hollowed-out head sitting on top of my fridge and providing a safe haven for pickles is a comforting thought." -- the immortal Bill Mattocks

Mozilla/Firebird/Netscape/etc don't support ActiveX controls at all, so there's no risk of a malicious one being installed. It does however block regular pop-up ads and the like.
wrestlingDB: Because I was far too lazy to check multiple wrestling news sites.
Before this little program entered my life, I was having to disable active x controls and such to prevent the installatin of spyware, as well as to prevent flash ads. I LOVE this program. Now I can surf ad free, popup free, and all without the fear of a shitty spyware applet putting itself on my system.
I just fixed a long nagging issue on my laptop using HijackThis. It found a bunch of hosts entries for common sites that were gumming up my browsing. Yahoo used to take 10-15 seconds per page, now it's down to sub second again.
Looks like at some point I loaded something that was trying to hijack ad-views and replace with their own ads. It's gone now though
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.
I accidentally loaded spyware onto my system only once (the yes/no question was rigged, so if you clicked NO it INSTALLED) and that was more than enough, dammit. Hubby gripes if I mention alternate browsers, so since this machine is community property, my only choice is utilities that fix the holes in IE. I perform daily obeisance to those who write and distribute them.
And I tell Hubby to stay the hell away from porn sites, since they are notorious for back-door invasions. If I can't have Mozilla...

You should still give AdAware 6.0 a run. Bet you'd be surprised....
From Wrestling Observer's Velocity Report, by Nathan Eckstrom: "I've been thinking and I want to know if anyone else thinks that the ~ symbol should be renamed "The Alvarez". I mean, where else is it ever used to any effect?
