Dick Slater was arrested on Saturday for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend. Slater apparently stabbed the girl (Theresa Halbert) three times. The two had split and Slater was in the process of moving out of Halbert's home when he allegedly attacked her.

Halbert was hospitalized following the attack but has since been released.

Slater was found at another house, ""apparently overdosed on pain medications he routinely takes for injuries suffered during his wrestling career." Halbert said that Slater had threatened suicide after attacking her.

Slater wrestled as Dick "The Rebel" Slater in the WWF during the late 1980s and also wrestled in WCW in the early 1990s

Sad but true. I'd make a Sideshow Bob crack about "attempted murder" at this point (or at least demand that somebody refer to him as "Dirty" Dick Slater), but it doesn't seem appropriate. Damned shame, Dick.

Believe it or not, I first learned of this on CNN Headline News of all places. And it DID refer to him as "Dirty Dick" Slater....which is in contrast to the correct (I assume) "Dirty" Dick Slater. The first seems a little more sexually suggestive to me.

I always remembered him as "Mr. Unpredictable". It seems if there was a bounty angle in a territory (Mid-South, Mid-Atlantic), he was chasing after the money.

Sad to hear this, he was always one of my favs.

Let's not forget the man was once considered a "Rebel" and part of a "Hardline Collection Agency" in previous incarnations.

My word.... his nicknames all but point to the fact that he did it! Forget the trial, this man is guilty!!!

Does this mean he'll be appearing on NWA-TNA any week now?

If only Paul Jones had brought in General Skandar Akbar as a technical military advisor, Paul Jones' Army could have thwarted the McMahon infidels and prevented the collapse of wrestling civilization.

There's more to the story. Pretty twisted (from the Tampa Herald/Tribune):

Former wrestler charged with attempted murder of ex-girlfriend

LARGO, Fla. -- A former professional wrestler was arrested on a charge of attempted murder because authorities said he stabbed his ex-girlfriend three times.

Richard "Dirty Dick" Slater, 52, used a kitchen knife with an 8-inch blade to stab Theresa Halbert, 41, at her home Saturday afternoon, police Sgt. George Edmiston said. Halbert was briefly hospitalized for stab wounds to an arm, leg and back before she was released.

At the time of the stabbing, Slater was moving the last of his possessions out of the house after he and Halbert had broken up, Edmiston said Saturday.

Slater was later found at another home nearby. He apparently overdosed on pain medications he routinely takes for injuries suffered during his wrestling career, Edmiston said.

Slater was being held Sunday at Pinellas County Jail. It could not immediately be determined if he had a lawyer.

After Halbert was released, she said she had allowed Slater to come to her house Saturday to pick up his clothes. He came up behind her with a knife and punched her in the head, knocking her down, she said.

He then sat on top of her as she lay on the floor, and when she grabbed the knife, he turned her over and stabbed her, Halbert said.

Then he got up off her and told her he wanted her to lie on her bed so he could watch her bleed to death, Halbert said. She then pleaded with him not to let her die.

A dejected Slater then told her he was going to kill himself, Halbert said. He then left, and she called 911 at 12:17 p.m.

Halbert said that Slater has been retired from professional wrestling for six years.

He wanted to watch her bleed to death? Whoever he gets to defend him, good luck on working around that during closing arguments.

IIRC, the injury story was it cost him the MitB (lost the briefcase to Edge) only for him to find out he wasn't as hurt as everyone thought. He could've just sat out a month and come back, but the briefcase was long gone.
