| #1 Posted on 12.8.03 1327.25 | Sad news from the hockey world today: Herb Brooks, coach of the "Miracle on Ice" 1980 gold medal USA hockey team (and last year's silver medalists in Salt Lake City), has died in a car crash. (ESPN.com)
In addition to his storied NCAA and NHL career, he's enshrined in the United States (USHockeyHall.com) and international Hockey Halls of Fame.
USAHockey.com had some nice things to say about him, too.

Herb Brooks was 66 years old...may he rest in peace.
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

Sad summer for hockey...it really is....
"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon. Need I say more?"
