To continue with my animal related theme of today....

at least 1 and possibly 2 raccoons have moved into a corner of my attic in the last two days - the torrential NJ rains have probably contributed to that - I set a Haveaheart trap last night to no avail - turning on the central airconditioner seemed to bother them a little but I can't afford to keep that running all the time - anyone out there have any ideas on how I can hasten their departure ? Thanks

Try putting some sort of smelly food in the trap. Those little buggers can't resist.

I'd suggest slightly off chicken livers as a bait. It's worked really well for me in getting both the raccoons and the possums out of the attic of the house at the tree farm at which I'm currently working.

Dunkin - we had that a few years ago and I tried lots of stuff. Traps, set off a smoke bomb, cooled the area - but eventually I called in an animal guy. The guy put on his crap and waded in there and drug 'em out, kicking and scratching.

Not for me.

The exterminator wanted $200 to set a trap and dispose of the animal for me - he suggested peanut butter, I went with the smelly skin off the swordfish I grilled last night

If that doesn't get them then I'm thinking either mothballs or a Vanilla Ice CD as irritants to get them to leave

The mothballs? Maybe. But Vanilla Ice??? That's just mean!

The easiest way to get rid of raccoons is just to bring in a predatory wolf like a wolf, bear or velociraptor.

I forgot to add earlier that I've heard really good things about a couple of different systems that rely on ultrasonic emmitters to drive away your unwanted guests. Unfortunately, I don't know the system names or prices and the person who mentioned them to me isn't easy to contact given that he's currently an MP in Baghdad.

"Raccoons In My Attic" sounds like a great name for a band. Or not.

This week, talk radio personality and best selling author, Mike Savage, announced he's getting a 1 hour tv show spot on MSNBC starting probably late March. It will be once a week on Saturday apparently.
