I managed to catch the replay of this week's TNA since I missed the first go-around. I knew I wanted to watch this week with the potentially tremendous steel cage match between America's Most Wanted and XXX. Not only did the match deliver in spades, but TNA also delivered ANOTHER awesome match!

The aforementioned steel cage match was not only the match of the night, but also a MOTYC. Everyone hit their big moves and we saw lots of BLOOD! Tons of effort from everyone involved and the Death Sentence from the top of the cage had to be seen to be believed. SUPERB MATCH!

The OTHER awesome match came in the form of Chris Sabin vs. Frankie Kazarian. THE FUTURES COLLIDE! And collide they did! The crowd was pretty quiet for the first part...until Sabin woke them all up BIGTIME with the biggest SUPERplex I've seen in a long time! Kazarian's win in this non-title match pretty much ensures there WILL be a rematch for the X title. I'm down with that!

Despite subpar ringwork, Shane Douglas makes an excellent antagonist for Raven and Jarrett while AJ Styles defends the belt against D'Lo Brown. The main event tag match was pretty good and Raven sold that ankle until the very end. Glen Gilberti had outlived his usefulness in the main event, but there's no harm in him being an upper-midcarder at this point.

KID KASH~! did his damndest to carry Erik Watts, but no matter how much personality you give him, at the end of the day he's still Erik Watts. Kash did his part well and, for some reason, the run-in finish didn't bother me too much. Maybe because I'm genuinely intrigued by Big Scary Dude. Can't wait to see Big Scary Dude in action next week so the world can see what he can do in the ring.

The Hard 10 is almost nearing an end. This week's match wasn't too bad, especially the ending with Sandman plowing Siaki through the table. Sandman and New Jack one-on-one? Quick question for the nostalgic ECW fan: Have Sandman and New Jack ever faced each other in a match?

Speaking of New Jack, his chemistry with Shark Boy continues to entertain me. The Shark Tank gives the Shark Boy gimmick another hint of campy fun and watching New Jack play off this stuff is hilarious. A feud with Mike Sanders could be cool.

The good thing about this week's TNA? The cage match, the non-title X division match, and the Hard 10 match all ended CLEANLY. Of course, many of the other matches had either screwy or no finishes, but the clean finish to shitty finish ratio is getting better.

As a non-watcher of TNA, I'm curious about some of these moves. What is a Death Sentence? What is Frank Kazarian's "Flux Capacitor" move? What is a Spanish Fly?

Oliva: You are the weakest link! Goodbye!

Stewie: Ahahaha. Oh God, that's funny. That's really funny. You write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' You know I've never heard anyone make that joke before. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference that outside program before. Because that's what she says on the show, right? Hmmm? 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' And ye...ye..yet you've taken it and....and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. What a clever, smart girl you must be. To come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmmmm...that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. Since I'm too cheap to get the PPV's... is anyone putting together a Best of NWA:TNA tape? I'd buy.

Spanish Fly: Opponent is placed on the turnbuckle in a superplex position. Both Maximo Brothers climb the same turnbuckle and proceed to superplex the opponent, but with both Maximos also flipping over in moonsault motions. Great visual! These .gifs can explain it better than I can. Click Here (4.brinkster.com)

Flux Capacitor: Frankie Kazarian's one-man version of the Spanish Fly.

Death Sentence: Top-rope legdrop while opponent is held by partner. Picture Demolition's finisher with a top-rope legdrop in place of an elbowdrop.

I never realized how lost a non-wrestling fan must get when we're casually talking about the Pedigree or the Stunner or the Rock Bottom before.

Technically, Sandman faced New Jack on May 7th, in the 3 way dance with Sabu.

And Frankie's Flux Capacitor came from the fact that he and Nova also did the Spanish Fly (They called it the Revolution) as part of the tag team Evolution. Frankie debuted it as a solo spot in Millenium Pro Wrestling, while Nova tried to do it at one of the WWA PPVs.

Agreed on all points. Easily the best match I have seen in quite a while. It combined the right amount psychology and spots and told a heck of a story. Excellent work all around by all of the guys.

Americas Most Wanted are quickly becoming best tag team out there period.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

Fear can sometimes be a useful emotion. For instance, let's say you're an astronaut on the moon and you fear that your partner has been turned into Dracula. The next time he goes out for the moon pieces, wham!, you just slam the door behind him and blast off. He might call you on the radio and say he's not Dracula, but you just say, "Think again, bat man."

I wasn't even planning on springing for tonight's ppv, but
in the words of John Stamos, "Have Mercy!"
That cage match was incredible. Chris Daniels rules us all. Skipper's flippy stuff made sense within the confines of the cage and as a result, he looked lethal. Extra bonus points for the multiple off-the cage-bumps. Finally, it's good to see the sloppiness from AMW from two weeks ago was just a hiccup; they really are amazing when they keep it "tight."
Easily one of the 5 best bouts I've seen this year.

You know what, I'm going to just say screw it all and call this my MOTY thus far, even over the Angle/Benoit match from RR. This just had such visceral fun in it. The psychology of so many things in the match was tight, from Elix selling the midsection, to the setup for the rope-walk spear, to the desperation to keep Elix from getting back in the cage, to the finale where they couldn't pin Daniels with the regular death sentence so they had to go for the Overkill Sentence.

The only problem I had with the cage match was that some of the problems in NWA began to rear their ugly head, the things which kept this from being the kind of thing talked about a few years from now. The Russo booking has hurt the heat of AMW what with all the swerves and teases of breakups so that this didn't have the same emotion as it did when AMW overcame New Church. Also, the being in the same place every week is causing some problems simply because you have a small group of uber-smarky fans whose heeling is doing a decent job of killing a lot of crowd reactions. In a 1200 person arena, the reaction of 50 or so highly vocal fans can be quite important to tilting crowd reaction, so the Heel Section's "Kill the Cowboy" chants or the "Fallen Angel" chants become somewhat jarring. I think TNA could deal with this by establishing a bit of a loop of cities, even just within a few hundred mile circle that would be easy to get to, yet keep the crowd from getting too burnt out or anything. A super-hot crowd playing along with the match would have bumped it up from MOTYC to certain MOTY for me.

and maybe I should open up my sensitive side/but really, the sensitive side sucks./I've been there./You can only imagine the kinds of sweaters they make you wear.

One other thing that stood out from the show was D-Lo Brown. I've NEVER EVER seen him that intense before, not even in the WWF(E). I have to say, that it really makes you wonder what Vince was thinking when he had him.. I'm really impressed with D-Lo and AJ Styles so far. What can I say about the cage match which hasn't been said already? Triple X is one swank tag team, and I want them to get the rematch SOOO BAD! Good show, and I have to admit, there wasn't too much in the way of "Sports entertainment" (not Extreme, lol), but it was a fun as hell show. But, this New Jack-Shark Boy thing is NO Rock and Sock Connection.

I'll add my vote to XXX/AMW cage match as being the leader for MOTY, while I liked Angle/Benoit and Jericho/HBK this was the one match all year that really took my breath away.

Awesome, awesome match.

I believe that was just an impromptu match/brawl that ensued when D-Lo came out immediately after. And basically, they just made use of the cage. Though it wasn't "official" or anything.

Now i'm dying to see the cage match. Everyone's buzzing about it. Maybe i'll catch the weekend replay of TNA.

I've only seen tapes of TNA and don't actually the ppvs, and have not seen it real recently. Could somebody explain to me what the Hard 10 is? I'm under the impression it's some kind of hardcore match or series of matches?

It's also known as the "Beach Break" in Toryumon when performed by the gentleman in GrubbyLongJohns' sig pic.

I believe it's number 13 on the "Big List of Moves You'll Never See in WWE".

The Hard 10 matches are hardcore matches judged on a point system. To win you have to be the first to 10 points and win by 2. From what I've read, table spots are kind of a deux ex machina here because they're worth 5 points and everything else is worth 1.

I thought these were just the rules for TNA's hardcore matches. There is a tournament going on and the finals are next week when Sandman takes on New Jack.
