CLB: Buddle - 36' (1st of Season, 14th of Career)
LA: Ruiz - 64' (1st of Season, 25th of Career)

CAUTION: Bo (38')
CAUTION: Marshall (75')
CAUTION: Dunseth (95')

In the first half, the Galaxy look to be tripping over their own feet, maybe due to the cold. Hartman saves about three otherwise definite goals to keep the defending champs alive. Header by Buddle off a Garcia free kick is unsavable, however, and the Crew are up one. Only booking is a yellow to Bo for a boot to Garcia.

Early second half sees a cameo in the booth by MLS COMMISSIONER DON GARBER. Oh my, possible expansion after they contracted just a few years ago! As long as they don't try to put a new sports team in Florida again, they should be fine. Galaxy look better this half and after 15 have been able to keep pressure on the Crew while simultaneously keeping the deficit at one. First sub at 63' for Columbus as Denton comes in for Garcia. LA finally knots it up as Ruiz nails a header into the back of the net off of a botched clear in the 64th. Eric Wynalda calls it "pure luck." Next minute going the other way, Martino has a one v. one breakaway and misses wide. Ouch. Lalas gets away with a foul in the box around 73'. Columbus fans are pissed, of course. Marshall gets a yellow in the 75th for a NASTY foul on the Crew's Paule that should've been a sending off. Paule leaves the game and is replaced by Cunningham. 79'- Galaxy: Bardales, Jr. on for Albright. Great defence by both sides keeps it tied after regulation.

During the break, Oughton goes on for Maisoneauve on the Columbus side.

Columbus gets the first good opportunity in the first period of extra time, but cannot convert the free kick. Another shot follows a minute later, but Hartman makes an amazing save with a little help from Lalas. Dunseth gets a yellow at 95' for some reason. After an extra minute of stoppage time, the score remains knotted at 1.

Second period of extra time sees a few moderate chances on both sides before a Columbus corner at 99'. Opportunity is again missed as the shot goes wide. LA looks to be looking for nothing but the draw on the road. LA gets a free kick at 100' for what looks to be their final try. Jones crosses it, but cannot get it to a teammate. Game is over shortly thereafter.

That was a pretty good game. I enjoyed it a lot, considering the mood I was in after earlier watching the Red Bastards from Manchester beat Liverpool 4-0.

The talent level for MLS seems to be improving every year, which is a very good thing -- more real football on my telly!
