| #1 Posted on 4.3.03 2014.47 | Buffy was a rerun, so I was able to devote my full attention to the re-debut of this classic game show. I was such a mark for the Monty Hall version, I really wanted to like this, but I still remembered the horrific FOX's Big Deal.
And I liked it. I won't add qualifiers like 'really' or 'a lot' quite yet, but it is insanely better than the aforementioned Mark DeCarlo version.
Billy Bush moderates nicely between being the nicest guy on earth and a conman. He's no Monty Hall yet, but after his first episode, I have no complaints about him. Vance DeGeneres is not only no Jay Stewart, he's no Jay Mohr, not even a J.J. Walker. He grated on my nerves from his first second on the screen and didn't stop.
The only other complaint I had was the quick cuts to the audience during the decision phases. A little too close with way too many close ups. Show a wide shot to show some of the zaniness that is LMaD. It's not Millionaire, it's a carnival atmosphere.
A lot of potential for bawdiness, but with the exception of the opening deal, nothing that annoyed my Lawler sensors. Something that makes a more whimsical lead-in to the seriousness of 24 than Buffy. Fun show.

Maybe I just hated it because I wanted to see that annoying asshole in the pimp suit lose big, and he won the grand prize.
The host was pretty vanilla, too, but I still like him way better than his cousin.

| #3 Posted on 4.3.03 2130.39 | Billy wasn't that bad for episode 103... here's wishing that he gets a chance to get more under his belt. That's the hard part about a five-week tryout -- do we know if he gets comfortable in the hosting role? And yes -- the guides list it as 103. I hate selective episoding, but I'm not in charge.
Vance DeGeneres wasn't that bad; I just wish they had a second-fiddle to Billy... this isn't it. With Jay, he at least got in on the Zonks *and* announced. With this, it's sent-in V/O by a mystery lady and Vance.
The format -- no complaints whatsoever. Billy even had the $100-upping before the reveal of the deal. You knew and I knew that there was no 50K in the check. But a PT Cruiser? Damn. At the same time, think of the money that NBC/Monty spent on this; compared to the eight-second plugs and prizes they *could have* given away, they awarded 56K for the big deal, 22k for the second big deal, a couple of 4K trips and some cash. Friends, on the other hand, costs how much? Also, same ol' font as the old days, as well as a pricing game and a "candy box." OFB -- this was *NOT* the re-crapping of Match Game at all. It wasn't perfect, but this was not an abomination IMO, either.
I'm curious to see the overnights, but I'll probably be too busy working on school closing stuff tomorrow.

| #4 Posted on 5.3.03 2231.05 | I thought it was okay. It was definetely LMAD even if it was overproduced to the hilt. I thought some of the curtain timing was off, but overall a good effort.
I don't picture it coming off as a big prime time hit though. Might be worth toning down a bit into a 30-minute syndie.
