Wow, 3 good shows in a row now, I think they are finally starting to hit their stride. Lynn-Shane was a very solid match, and Simon/Swinger vs. AMW was the usual ***+ affair these guys give us weekly. However, the show was truly made by a fabulous main event. I haven't seen Raven looking so motivated for a long time, and Styles had his working shoes on tonight. The interference was a bit annoying, but it was necessary to keep Raven strong and keep Styles the champion. If they draw out the Styles-Raven thing for a long time, they might have a real winner on their hands. Anyways, this show blew Raw out of the freakin water...when's the last time WWE ended a show with a **** main event?

Michrome, I agree about hitting their stride -- it's really been grooving lately. Sinn is a pretty good addition to the Church, although he's going to have to start doing some cool moves soon to keep me interested -- he looks like he fits, but he feels a little warm-body-space-filler right now.

I was pretty sure I hated BG James, but 3 Live Krew is actually putting on some pretty good matches.

That four-man superplex/powerbomb spot in the AMW/Swinger & Diamond match was so wacky I almost fell over. How come I've never seen that before?

The Raven/Styles match had me marking out more that I have in a year, maybe two. I was SO SURE that Raven was going to pull out a win -- I almost cheered out loud when he kicked the powder into Slash's eyes, when it looked like Raven was actually going to be able to fight off the New Church. Oh! And when Punk and Julio carried Russo out of the Asylum! That was awesome, too.

Next week's Super 8 X tournament should be a lot of fun.

Fantastic show, NWA is in a real nice old-school grove now. The hardcore Wargames next week sounds fun like a real bloodbath.

I hope the Raven/Styles thing continues. Raven winning the belt has to happen, and it would be even better if it was against Styles.

NWA-TNA has a lot going for them ... I wish they could get more exposure by landing a solid TV deal other than the Xplosion show that's in syndication.

But they have tons of talent ... I think AJ Styles is one of the top 5 wrestlers in the business today ... the guy could be a bonafied superstar with the right exposure. D'Lo and Raven look better than they have in a long time. Not to mention Jeff Jarrett, America's Most Wanted, Diamond & Swinger and Christopher Daniels.

It's probably just a matter of time before Vince tries to lure the current X division champ, Michael Shane, away to McMahonland ... He just happens to be the cousin of Shawn Michaels and Vince would be licking his chops to have a storyline involving those two.

I'll also give my thumbs up to TNA last night. That main event was the winner I knew it would be. With the heat it had, a Raven title win's an eventuality, not a possibility. The usual suspects, AJ, Daniels, AMW, Gilberti, D-Lo, did their thing and it was all good. What really threw me was how popular 3 Live Krew was. They're not half bad wrestling together, so they get my props. It's safe to say that when it came to wrestling shows this summer, TNA was really heating up!

Smackdown's preempted in Philly by bullfighting (or something similar to it) this week, but I don't care because I got my wrestling fix. Thanks, TNA!

I haven't seen any of those shows, but i do hear and i can tell its worth it. TNA should sign a contract to show live tapings on a cable station. and instead of having a PPV every month just have one every 2 months.

For the most part, the last several shows have been excellent, to the point where I think the program is catching on and overcoming the original stigma “Why should I pay $10 for this shit”. But every time this happens, (and this will be number 4) they manage to step on their dicks and COMPLETELY ruin things. For those of you that haven’t been watching, TNA was on quite a roll a few months ago, putting on solid matches with coherent story lines and then…

Roddy Fucking Piper came out, laying the badmouth to everyone, invoking the name of Owen Hart and blaming McMahon for “ruining” wrestling. This totally took the wind out of everyone’s sails and led to several weeks of the same old “Insider shoot” bullshit that does nothing but make TNA look 2nd rate.

Currently, TNA is on a nice little roll again and, with the exception of Jarrett sticking his nose in every angle, is able to put out 2 hours of strong programming, thanks to the efforts and performances of THE WRESTLERS and not centered around Russo, Tony Schiavone and Goldylocks.

But it looks like they want to repeat history as that idiot Piper is scheduled to make his “return”, this time even MORE full of piss and vinegar. Which he should be angry – he has spent the last 10 years disavowing Vince McMahon, then went back to work for him! I’m sure he will provide an explanation for this, but who fucking cares? Just recently, the crowd has come alive and provided a much needed backdrop with their cheers and boos, simply because the angles and matches have been clearly defined enough to pick sides. People are screaming “old school” as the description, which it is – “shades of grey” is sooo 90’s - all that’s needed is a face to cheer for and a heel to boo! And a reason to do so that isn’t so inside that it goes over their heads.

Case in point – Raven’s awesome promo setting up the Styles match – he brought up wrestling lore (Rich/Sawyer, his history with Dreamer/Douglas) and even if you didn’t * know * those names, you could follow along and understand his point – he’s tired of fucking around and he wants gold. Compare that to someone killing 20 minutes rehashing grudges that even * he * can’t abide by, well, that’s Piper for you.

I just hope they have a fantastic show booked to make up for it – I enjoy spending the $10, so long as I’m not jerked around by insincere assholes who use my $10 fee to make themselves feel better about their misery.

Yeah I agree, I don't wanna see Piper either ... the guy had a chance to have his "last hurrah" with the WWE and totally f'ed it up ... so now he's just using TNA as a platform to vent some more ... hasn't he said enough already? ...

I'm all for having old school wrestlers to help with the development of other guys. I think NWA-TNA has done a good job of using Dusty Rhodes, for example ... but Piper really serves no purpose to me.

Roddy Piper's involvement is the perfect example of the biggest thing holding TNA back right now. The show last night was quite good, but things like Piper's impending return and Michael Shane's "Shawn Michaels' cousin" angle just scream small time. Nothing says small time louder or more clearly than taking pot shots at the big time. ECW was able to pull it off because they did it in a "fuck you, we're better than both of you" way. The way TNA does it just comes off as a bush league trying to leach a bit of the name value that WWE has.

I can almost hear Piper's rant now, because I've read his book and, well, read recaps the last time he was in TNA. It'll be the same rant he's been spouting off for the past three years, except with "and they knew I was right so they fired me to try and shut me up" at the end. Nothing would please me more than for someone - anyone - to come out and tell Piper that Vince McMahon didn't stick the steroid needles in the wrestlers' asses, didn't force them to stay out all night, and didn't put the cocaine or heroin or whatever in front of them. A nice "if you really believed that you wouldn't have taken the money and shown up at WrestleMania, so shut up you fucking hypocrite, go home, and never come back" at the end would also be fitting. I wonder what the Honky Tonk Man is doing next week (or whenever Piper shows up)...

Back to TNA, though, I'm absolutely ordering that war games match. If it was taped last night (it was, wasn't it?) I just hope they somehow managed to put a second ring out there, you can't do war games in just one ring. Either way, I can't wait to see it.

I'd like to see piper around.

as long as he sticks to the story lines, he'd be a great addition to any angle.

I remember when Raven left WWE and how a lot of people on here were saying he was washed up, overrated, wasn't going to mean anything to NWATNA, and all that jazz.

I think us Raven supporters have been proven right because he's gotten a chance to show what a tremendous talent he is. He had a great feud with Jarrett which turned himself into a face because he was so good. He's carried Shane Douglas and the New Church in an extremely entertaining feud. Last night, he cut a stellar promo (again) and for one of the first times made AJ Styles look like a World Heavyweight Champion. Compare Styles great match with Low Ki to this one with Raven. I'll take the psychology and drama of the Raven match anyday over the cool move ROH style fest.

Hopefully this 2 week layoff (taped show and .01 show) won't derail this hot streak because they've finally found their groove.

Another thing that popped into my mind about Raven going after the title.

I heard elswhere some opinions that maybe NWA is waiting too long to put the belt on Raven, and they won't ever be as interested as last night. Then I remembered, that this whole thing has Jerry Jarrett's fingerprints on it. I believe that he ran basically the same angle with Lawler in the 70s/80s, and he kept the fans interested for literlly years.

I suspect it'll be Jeff getting the title off Styles. They could always do that and have Jeff turn heel on Raven by rubbing it in that he won it back before Raven could win it.

One more thing, Raven had charted out this huge long storyline between himself and Piper in WCW that they started and dropped about a week later. Perhaps with Piper coming in, this is Raven's chance to actually go through with it? Maybe something new to keep him distracted from the title picture.
