I will kiss Snyder's feet if he can bring back Gibbs. I just hope that he can come back and be as effective as he once was.

No one will ever accuse Gibbs of not being able to fire up the team. I remember when he punched a hole through a chalkboard and threw over a juice table when the 'Skins were losing 20-0 to the Eagles and they came back and won the game.

I heard that on WTOP in the car and I thought it was a joke. Gibbs is just what the teams needs right now. I hope it could all work out (he is part owner of the Falcons, that's a conflict of interest he'd have to resolve).

Well, I'm sure he'd have to sell. I wonder if he could talk Pettibon into coming out of retirement as well? Hell, let's get Bobby Bethard to come back and be GM!

Probably the best thing that the team could do is to bring Gibbs back...

....how long til Snyder screws it up?

EDIT: Radio is reporting that it's a done deal and he has hired Gregg Williams as their Def. Coordinator.

CBS Sportsline is also reporting that it's a done deal with Gibbs and Gregg Williams.

Color me unimpressed. I love Gibbs as a coach but does anyone think that he is trying to catch the Vermeil 'magic in a bottle?'

Maybe Snyder woke up and got his head screwed on correctly but who knows with this team. This was a team a few years ago that had Super Bowl aspirations but could not kick a field goal.

I wonder if he'll have one of those Bill Parcells/Jerry Jones "understandings" with Snyder about "I'll coach the team and you stay in the skybox".

ESPN also reported that Joe Bugel is back as Assistant Coach.

Maybe now the offensive line will learn how to protect Ramsey, & even (dare I say) run-block!!

I said to a buddy of mine as a joke/wish, when I heard they were talking to Fassel, that I just wanted Joe Gibbs back. Looks like somebody up there is a Redskins fan :-)

Holy God, thank you. Joe Bugel back makes me shiver with anticipation. I don't know much about Williams other than he was the coach for Buffalo. What other details are there about him?

I do believe he was the defensive coordinator for the Titans during their Super Bowl year.

I hated to see Gregg Williams leave Tennessee (but Jim Schwartz, the Titans' current defensive coodinator, is damn good in his own right.)

I remember the year that Williams's defense in Tennessee battled with Marvin Lewis's Ravens defense over who was tops in the league ... I think the Titans statistically edged them out during the final week of the regular season.

So 'Skins fans, rejoice.

Couldn't agree more.

You can be pretty sure if it wasn't for Vermeils success this year that everyone would be slating the 'Skins for taking a backward step.

In fact you can be damned sure they would never even have considered him if it weren't for Vermeil.

If they plan on using him to get the most out of the talent they've got for a season or 2 and maybe get them into the playoffs thats one thing. But if they reckon he'll be able to rekindle the glory days then I think they'll be sorely disappointed.

Are you kidding? You obviously don't live in DC where Gibbs is a GOD. His name came up every time we were looking for a coach and he always had said no. This year, I guess, was just too much for him.

Comparing Vermeil and his one super bowl ring to Gibbs and his three, not to mention Gibbs' overall record of 124-60, is ludicrious. The only reason they could be compared is that they've both had lengthy retirements. You won't see Gibbs out there whining and crying like Vermeil.

Another thing about Gibbs is that Snyder idolizes him. You won't EVER hear Snyder say anything remotely close to criticism towards Gibbs. If he goes 4-12 each year for his five years (not going to happen), Snyder will still be quiet and let Joe do his thing.

Oh, I wish we still had Stephen Davis right now...

I'm very surprised that he is coming back. 11 years off is a long time. The game and the players have changed a bit. I'm sure he's hoping for a Parcells like return, but it could very well end in a Ditka like fall.
