Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

No Mercy main event changed to Fatal Four-Way (wwe.com)

For the first time in SmackDown history, a pay-per-view main event has been changed with less than a week to go before the event. General Manager Theodore Long has ordered Sundayís World Heavyweight Championship Match to be changed to a Fatal Four-Way.

Per the General Managerís orders, King Booker will now be forced to defend his gold against not only No. 1 Contender Bobby Lashley, but also former World Heavyweight Champion Batista and Finlay.

As always, the rules of a Fatal Four-Way are simple: the first Superstar to record a pinfall or submission will take home the gold. Stay tuned to Friday Night SmackDown for more on this breaking story.
This just went from foregone conclusion to who knows what'll happen. Considering the circumstances I could see any of the four winning this...

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Why they couldn't have just made it a Fatal Four-Way to start off with, I have no idea... maybe someone woke up and finally realized that Bobby Lashley, talented as he is, is not quite ready to help lead the company as World Heavyweight Champion.

In the past, these things happen when they want to keep the belt on Booker T but not make Batista lose any heat in the process. Or vice versa, with Batista winning the title.

I'm not sure they were ever going to have Lashley go over on Sunday. I think they lost faith in him as a PPV draw, and they should have, he is much too green at this point. He has a lot of potential, and should be focal point on the show, but he is not quite ready for the World Title, even on the B-show.
There is only 2 guys that might walk out with the belt, Booker or Batista, but I would hate to think they just change plans and give the belt to Dave with little build up. Unless they have just totally lost faith in Book.
WHEN IS BENOIT COMING BACK??? How can they say they are trying to find a way to fit him back into the show, they are (as always) in desperate need of a main eventer.

These kind of matches really do (as the poster said above) lead to the champion retaining the title. Booker has kept the title because there were no major heels to face Batista if he had the belt. With Booker you at least have Batista, Lashley and possibly Finley. Batista has been booked as such a monster that no heel on the roster looks good working with him. Now this can all change with that RAW match on Monday between Kane & Umaga. One or the other is going to SMACKDOWN. A heel Kane or Umaga might be big enough to headline against a champion Batista.

Even though I do not care for Umaga, at least he is a new guy getting a big push. I think he should go over Kane, who can keep his heat when he goes to SD!, while a loss would kill any momentum Umaga has. I have no problems with a heel or face run as champ for Kane on SD!.

I'm assuming the "foregone conclusion" was Booker retaining? I doubt they ever seriously considered putting the title on Lashley yet.

Considering they're STILL advertising here in Canada (at least as of last weekend) a Batista-Booker match in the main event, I've got to think they're keeping the belt on Booker. Otherwise, why not just go with the original plan instead of changing it twice?

Regardless, a much, much better main event now.

Poor Finley, he has to carry 3 people now to a descent match. Lashley and Batista will probably hurt someone, themselves, or both. Booker is good, but much like RVD, Big Show, and Cena, cannot carry someone to a better match. If there was any justice they would let Finley just "cripple" everyone methodically and just let him be a total bastard to everyone on Smackdown. He would not need a long title reign, just long enough to be a permanent top heel that can work with everyone.

lol wow way to be a smart, Im sure they'll all be entertaining and raise the quality of the match in their own ways.

As for who's gonna win? I can actually see Finlay given his due, taking the spot as big heel champ. This would likely lead to a 4 way feud with everyone involved in this match; hell, booker and fin will turn on each other during the match im sure.

But, just the same- I can see Batista winning due to crappy booking or Booker retaining for a bit longer. Im pretty sure Bobby wont win, but who knows- this might all be a big angle to put him over. If he had a victory in this match it would validate him as a champ in the eyes of most viewers.

I thought the foregone conclusion was that for once, it would be guaranteed that a black guy would be the champ after the match.

Is it just me or does it seem a little racist to go and add not one but two white guys to the first all afro-American title match in the WWE? I'm rather dissapointed in that it looks like they don't think Booker can carry the ball.

Not when the 2 black guys in question are the only 2 black guys on the SD roster. When almost everyone else on the roster is white and WWE decides to add 2 of them to a match, I think it's a bit of a stretch to call "Rasicm". Especially when one of the black guys in the original match for the world title is green as grass (albeit pretty over). Also, ...

Last I checked, Booker T is still riding the push of a lifetime. They gave him KOtR, they gave him this AWESOME "royalty" gimmick, AND they gave him the Big Gold Belt. That hardly sounds like anyone thinks he cant carry the ball. If there is anybody in that match that cant carry the ball , I'm thinking it's Lashley.

That's the only reason I can see. Someone backstage watched a few of Bobby's matches and said "The kid's good, but maybe he's not ready for prime time. Someone call Dave and Dave, tell them there's been a change of plan."

I'd rather this be a 4-Way Dance as opposed to a Fatal 4-Way. Bobby pins Finley after a spear, face miscommunication gets Batista, then some queenly interference keeps his royal highness on the throne. Never been a big fan of "1st pin wins", but that's me.

Lashley has improved a ton in short career, down here in OVW he would frequently look lost in the ring and struggled to sequence one set of moves into another. He was so GREEN when he started he did not automatically get his development deal, he had to really earn it. The story goes that Cornette was livid that a guy like Kevin Fertig (Mordecai/Kevin Thorne) could get a deal with a crappy attitude, and Lashley couldn't with a great attitude and tons of respect for the business. That being said, Lashley is a lot like Batista in that he is being pushed past his skill level. Batista fortunately got to work with Flair and HHH, guys that could carry him. Outside of Benoit, I don't know any top guys on Smackdown who can carry anyone at that level.

Yeah, that was the foregone conclusion, even though I was going to be rooting vociferously for Lashley at the PPV, since I utterly loathe the King Booker gimmick and want it to die a quick and painful death (and also because I'm an unrepentant Lashley mark).
