So it looks like WWE is canning the 'Kane / Big Red Machine' gimmick. Looking back, it's perhaps one of the most ingeneous gimmicks the WWF/E have ever done.

Even without half his hair shaved off and the make-up job, Glen Jacobs isn't the best looking guy in the WWE by long margin. Nor is he the best interview. What was so good about this gimmick - at least originally - is that it explained away those facts. Why the mask? Well, he's the victim of hideous burns. Why no interviews? Well, he can't talk after all. It explained away his weaknesses and made what would otherwise have been another big guy into a really succesful character (or at least more successful than he would have been otherwise).

Will he be over without it - time will tell. Still, the character played to Glen's strengths and turned his weaknesses into strnghts too; those are the hallmarks of a good gimmick...

Very well considered, AJ. but why, oh why, would it not surprise me to see something like this...
Kane will probably get static from the crowds and the workers for his "appearance"... some might call it haterizing. And as you pointed out, since talking isn't his strong suit, he may need someone to verbally express for him his incohate rage... ya feel where I'm going wid dat, Playa?
I think I'm joking. Maybe.

Most logical scenario is that Kane feels hurt because of the way everyone reacted to his hideous appearance, so he puts the mask back on, stops talking, and becomes an indestructible heel.

I meant this thread more as a place to reminisce what has been a good gimmick for Glen, and the WWF/E. That said, Tenken347 may be right and this may not be the end of 'Big Red Machine' Kane...

Or, maybe he'll go heel by getting Rico as his new image consultant. There are still PLENTY of ways that WWE could screw this up.

Oliva: You are the weakest link! Goodbye!

Stewie: Ahahaha. Oh God, that's funny. That's really funny. You write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' You know I've never heard anyone make that joke before. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference that outside program before. Because that's what she says on the show, right? Hmmm? 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' And ye...ye..yet you've taken it and....and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. What a clever, smart girl you must be. To come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmmmm...that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. Mmmm? Cuz i'm here God you're so funny!

I always liked the idea of KANE and the Undertaker but WWE doesn't do what they need to do with it. KANE started talking and coming out of his shell so to speak. IMO first mistake. KANE and RVD joining to form a tag team. IMO 2nd mistake. KANE wasnt the misterious scary person that he was first put out to be. Undertaker turning into a West Coast Chopper bad ass was another mistake, KANE and Undertaker didn't live up to there names and personas. IMO thats like Stone Cold w/o beer.

I really fail to see why this would be the "end" of his gimmick. His gimmick was a burned up freakshow. He's now been revealed AS a burned up freakshow.....

They need to be careful with this, since they have taken the last interesting thing this character had and given it away.

Unless they make him seem like an invincible killer or whatever and reintroduce him with a new outfit, new theme (finally using the Type O Negative theme that was for him would be wise), and have him STOP TALKING for god's sake, this thing is gonna fail and he may as well go to NWA-TNA as "Giant Glen."

So let's see here...
He's not good looking
He's not a good talker
He's also not a good wrestler

You're right, it's amazing they did so much with him, but in my opinion a guy who ISN'T GOOD shouldn't be getting all the oppurtunities he has been getting. So if this ruined him and his character and his career then I say good riddance.

And that move off the top rope is STILL the worst looking movie in the WWE.

I agree. The match rule was if he lost he must remove his mask to show what he looks like. I have read no where that said he cannot just put it back on. He can just continue being Kane.

Yeah, I think that Kane was the last great "character" that the WWF creative staff (Russo?) came up with. Most of the WWF stars have developed reputations outside the company; either WCW, ECW, amatuer, etc. Gimmicks and angles come and go, but Kane was a 100 percent creation. Unfortuately, his mystique has deteriorated over the past couple years.

The only thing that has come close in recent years is the Hurricane.

Though I get the distinct impression that this whole angle is designed to get back the "old" Kane. Or at least, close to it.

He's actually had two bodyguard sidekicks, he was aligned with Matt Morgan for a while before Carlito was drafted to Raw.What about his brother Eddie? I guess he's not a big guy or anything, but maybe they'd make a good team.
