Yep. Theorun Fleury is officially on the Chicago Blackhawks. He signed a 2-year deal worth $8.5 million today. Personally, I think this a good move for Chicago. Fleury is only 34 and has the talent to put in a lot of points for the B'hawks. Moreover, with Tony Amonte now a Coyote, Fleury will probably fill in Amonte's spot and fill it pretty well. The only huge question mark is whether or not Fleury will be the Fleury-who-scores-a-lot-like-he-did-in-Calgary or the Fleury-who-does-well-but-has-lots-of-problems-and-is-almost-breaking-down-right-before-our-very-eyes-like-in-New York. Hopefully, it's the former, I'd rather see Theo be known for scoring and not his antics. I imagine the B'hawks and B'hawk fans feel the same way too.

I go to school up in Chicago (Northwestern) during the year, so I see a lot of the hawks, but I don't think that Fleury s going to have as big an impact as you (and I) both hope. He has all the hockey skills, but his leadership abilities compare to Amonte's like a dinghy does the Titanic. Even in calgary, he wasn't a leader, and I think that may be the biggest void left by Amonte.
I believe his personal problems were drug related. I seem to remember him leaving the game and entering the substance abuse program.
His trouble were alcohol related. And the past season when he went haywire a couple of times had to do with trouble in his family (I believe his dad was dying or something..I forgot) and he was very emotional about that and didn't take any shit on the rink. Resulting in him getting in lots of trouble with the referees.
I Think its cool for him that he has a place to go to.. Funny thing is, at the end of the last season he said he only wanted to play for the Rangers or in Europe.. Then it became 'maybe Calgary too'
I guess when it became apparent that more teams still wanted him despite his bad track record over the past years he changed his mind.. Cannot blame him. Too bad that now again he is a guy I have to hate because he isn't on 'my team'

Booze and coke. My boss knows the guy who sold him his stuff. Crazy... Anyhoo, Theo decided he wants to play 4-6 more years...probably 4. MEANING: Chicago gets him for 2 years, then Fleury will retire as a Flame, the way he's said numerous times he wants to retire.

I guess the owner of the Blackhawks now has a drinking buddy.
