I can think of nothing more BORING than the news of a Greg Maddux start, even if it is for the Yankees. All the Yankees will do is guarantee themselves so mediocre post-season starts if they sign him, so I think they should go for it. And trade for Glavine, too. *yawn*

The year the M's won 116 Paul Abbott was the #4 starter and he went 17-4. I didn't matter come playoff-time because he was still PAUL ABBOTT (though he did throw 5 no-hit/8-walk innings in the ALCS). Same deal with Maddux.

Let's play a game: Game 7 of the ALCS. You take Maddux. I'll take Tim Wakefield. One of us is happy. (Hint: It's not you.) [/Sports Guy]

I get your point, but I don't think out of the Boston pitching staff I'd pick Wakefield as the example.

I see that Jeter played Jerome to A-Rod's Morris Day at the press conference - Jeter will be on Mike & the Mad Dog this afternoon on YES - should be interesting to hear him tote the company line

Why would you trade those three players for a fast, bad fielding 2nd baseball you can't hit good pitching? The Sox had a better offense team than the Yankees last year. The reason why we did not win the division last year was because the Sox pen was weak.

Everyone knows A-Rod would just pay CASH to annoy Jeter.

Simple, he can't be a free-agent until after the '06 season, he's making 5 million this year (which is the same as Kim), he's a .290 40 100 30+ steal guy, and you can slot him in the middle of the order after this year in No-Arm's place and use the 8-9 million difference to help pay for Varitek, Lowe and Pedro. And this year's pen would still have Timlin, Embree, Foulke, Mendoza (look, he can't be worse than last year) and another lefty.

I don't think I would give up BOTH Kim and Williamson for him. And doesn't Soriano become a FA after this upcoming season?

Patriots win another Super Bowl. So much for that idea of a "Curse of Jim Plunkett" book.

How about a Steve Trachsel start? Check and mate.

Soriano has only been in the majors for 4 years, so he has 2 more arbitration years upcoming. But, he could be in store for bumps each time he goes through arbitration, so trading him for someone locked in past this year at a set cost could be deemed valuable for Texas. Hell, given my options my preference would be trade the shortstop to the Dodgers, have the Dodgers send young pitching to Texas, put Soriano at second and move Pokey Reese to short and then use the 8-9 million saved to tie up the rest of the core, as at this point I think Varitek, Martinez and Lowe are more important to the long term success of the Red Sox than Garciaparra. Plus, with the increased steroid testing, who knows if he will put up the numbers he did when he was on the juice early in his career (if I'm going to rip Bonds and Giambi, I'll rip No-Arm as well for having a complete body type overhaul overnight).

While I agree with you that the sox can live without Nomar I just don't think Soriano at 2nd is the answer. Now if Soriano can make the switch to CF and we can trade Damon then I would not mind that much. I just don't want Soriano playing 2nd.

If they trade Damon, I will be PISSED. Yeah, his arm is a little weak, but he's a very good lead off man and plays great defense in center. Maybe it's b/c I was there when he made that fantastic catch against the scoreboard in the Anaheim game last year or maye it's the Mullet, but JD was the man last season

Not getting an extension is one thing, but Riggleman needs to realize he was contractually obligated to manage the team for the rest of the year and they are actually in the wild card race.
