i've just handed over a huge chunk of my time to the text based simulator TNM7. jeesum crow this thing is addicting.

i was just curious at first. feeling experimental, as i'm wont to do from time to time. then arn anderson's punk ass no showed one of my cards so i scheduled him in an "i quit" iron man handicap match in a cage against big dick dudley, abdullah the butcher and vader. i don't know why he showed up for THAT but i fired him afterward.

when i started my new league, i teamed him up with barry windham because i don't hold grudges. they're going up against cactus jack and la parka to see who gets the title shot against goldberg and dan severn.

it's insanely detailed (it will give you play by play unless you're smart and tell it not to) but loses its grip on reality at times. billy kidman just beat andre the giant for the world title after winning the first fall via dq and the second via GERMAN F*CKING SUPLEX. it's all good though. i needed to get the title off andre and he just kept handing owen's ass to him.

have any of you guys played it? www.tnm7.com

Tnm is fantastic. You wouldn't think you'd lose your life to a text based game (well unless you played RPGs in the 80s you wouldn't), but I've lost many a night to Tnm.

Yes, TNM was great unfortunately my one month trial period ended long ago. I did consider buying it at one point though, but someone told me they tried to order it and the guy in charge of it (Oliver something I belive his name is) never responded to his email, so he couldn't buy it. Anybody know if you can still buy it or not?

I would. I've played MUD's.

No matter how bad things may get, just imagine what would happen if Vince Russo was booking again, and you will feel better.

Not if you play the right ones
Hell, I have been playing the same one for almost eight years, still lots of fun.

So these wrestling sims..they let you 'manage' your fed? you are the booker so to say?
I might have to try it..I am a sucker for that stuff..

TNM7 is classic.

I was addicted to it for a long time.

I still use it whenever I do something fantasy related in one of my columns.

Multi-Users-Dungeons

Basically, look at it like online AD&D. Also, there are others there to talk/play with..
You make yourself a nice character (e.g. stonecold the gnome warrior) and you start wandering the virtual, text based world, killing things, gaining experience points and become more powerful..
There are quite alot out there..ranging from Playerkillers (go kill one another) to roleplayers (where you just play a character as it should be done, like ranger Aragorn, etc)

There are many outthere, try www.mudconnector.com for instance.
Me, I play one called Avatar Mud.

i dorked around with a shadowrun mush for a little while and got into a little programming but tying up the phone line was a pain in the ass. the bad kind. i did play a lot of zork.

with TNM7 you are the front office. you can draft pretty much whomever you like at the beginning, though some people will will turn you down (who the hell does crowbar think he is?!) you pick how many cards you want them for and sometimes they aren't interested in re-upping after the contract runs out (f.u. undertaker). then you can create stables and put people in them, assign managers and entrance music. i think you can even put pictures in there.

the cards are the core of the game. so far i've just let each match go by the stats. (you can adjust each wrestler's push on a 100 point scale.) you can book the match pretty much start to finish if you want to though. pick the wrestler, pick the move, pick the time in the match it happens. i've only used that for busting someone open and to force the match to go to a certain time.

i tell you though... after a while it gets pretty hard coming up with new stuff to book. you can only have so many wrestlers before it becomes impossible to keep track of them all. i've totally let my tag division slide and fallen into the "random tag team combination" trap. i won't bitch anymore when the wwf does it!

i wish this thing was open source so i could really play with it. thirty dollars isn't that bad but free would be a hell of a lot better.

for those of you still playing it... who are your champs?

I had TNM 7 years ago, but the computer died and I wasn't able to retrieve it. So I have the old TNM 6.2 which isn't nearly as good as far as what you can do with it, but the basics are the same. I always do it in e-mail league mode. I don't like messing with contracts or any of that other stuff. I also turn off no-shows.

Right now I have Stan Hansen as my world champ, Austin as the U.S. champ, and John Nord and Bruiser Brody as tag team champs, managed by Mr. Fuji. Hansen won the title from Brody, who crushed Shawn Michaels for it a while back.

For a while there, I had Benoit as world champ, with Dean Malenko as his enforcer. They were also the tag champs. Then Benoit, Lance Storm, and Jericho had a Canandian-type stable going, with Storm as US champ and Jericho and Benoit at tag champs. Storm is number one contender to the world title right now, but he doesn't have a chance. I'm trying to set up a Vader/Hansen title match for the next PPV. I like to only give the number one contender title shots, but I may amend that pretty soon. Hansen injured Vader a while back, so I could get a good grudge thing going.

The sucky thing about 6.2 is that they don't have a separate rating for tag teams, so your tag teams are mixed in with the singles.

Probably the best period was when Benoit was champ. His biggest win was a title defense against Vader in a cage. I couldn't believe he won that one, because Vader generally destroys everyone he goes against unless there's outside interferrence or something. Before that, Benoit and Bret feuded for the title, with it changing hands several times.

I guess you can tell I play a LOT. I would love to get TNM 7 again, but I really hate the idea of buying it a second time.

I'm between promotions right now but my TNM memories usually involve original characters from my writing projects, but before that it was known for very strange bedfellows, such as both Harts joining DX only for Bret to turn on them after I finally got Shawn Michaels to come in. Meanwhile Cactus Jack turned on his partners (Terry Funk and Mikey Whipwreck) to turn into Mankind and join the Shadow Lords (Raven, Kane, Edge, and Christian)... a storyline which culminated with a Hell in a Cell match against Sting after which DX dismantled the cage, dropped it on Foley's head, and revealed Nova (Chris Chetti quit a few weeks earlier) as a new member! Unfortunately for DX, Matt Hardy (Jeff quit right before the PPV) was there to knock Nova off of a high place and help Funk and Whipwreck dig Mick out. I was gearing up for the entrance of Dude Love by ripping off storylines from "The Loved One."

Whie all this was going on The Rock kept getting his ass kicked by Goldberg who kept dodging rematches for the International (#2) Title. This is notable cause I was halfway through the match play by play before I realized I was watching Austin vs. Goldberg! I'd booked the Marks dream match and to me it was just another match in a larger feud that didn't even involve Austin (he won the match and the title, though.)

These are the things that happen when a wannabe anime fanfic author runs a wrestling sim! I deleted the fed cause the storylines were getting out of control. Since then I've wished I hadn't cause I've seen ideas dry up after three months (sim time.)

i've been making all my title matches against top contenders. they're also all two out of three falls, old school nwa style. *yes!*

kidman just got the world title back from the dynamite kid in an ironman match. they've got a nice little feud going. i think i'll put them in a cage for the next card.

the most surprising thing was la parka and chavo beating anderson and windham in two straight falls. holy shit! the crowd loves these guys, too.

do you book much of the match? with 7 it seems to f-up when i try to script a match. andre's contract is running out so i tried to get taz over the old "gets his ass beat then sinks in the tazzmission" style but the match got stuck in a loop. same way with rhino and al snow, who decided not to renew his contract and thus got the shitty end of the stick.

i've just started paying attention to booking heels against faces. i wish you could export your roster to html so you could check it while you make the matches. i can't keep all of them straight... ahem... SORTED. of course it would be easy to code if i could just have the damn source.

i may just have to spend some of my tax refund on this. depends on how burnt out i get at the end of four weeks.

I only ever book little bits in matches (say putting someone through a table) for angle purposes, overbooked matches, apart from being a bad thing in reality, tend to hang TNM, or you have a never ending match (I had a 10 hour match once!). Plus I also use a lot of made up wrestlers (cough *Qubber* cough) and put the belts on them. Hey, I book like Nash!

You can still buy TNM7, but Oliver Copp is like a German Mike Samuda. He made TNM to put him through college, but now he's got a real job so takes longer to respond to any correspondance. TNM7 is the final version as a result of him not having time to update the core program, although new builds appear sporadically.

Anyway, if you like text based stuff, TNM7 is the best sim out there by quite a way. I mean you still have entrances with entrance music from whatever wavs or mp3s you choose! What more could you ask for?!

dude! thanks for the info on the background.

i love how feuds just pop up in this game. vader won a tournament final over rhino for the national title, now the two just can't seem to settle it. goldberg and dynamite kid, too. who'da thunk it?

the game sure seems to favor the smark favorites. i don't think you can have a positive star rating for an andre the giant match. even against the great sasuke!

Yup. Oliver was a real puro fan, and a workrate freak to boot. He used to publish his own simmed WWF cards on TNM7.com, and Benoit was always the WWF champ or thereabouts (can't argue with that though!)

Have you tried any of the plug ins?

BTW, is Mike Sweetser who posts here the same guy who wrote half of the TNM7 plug ins?

Oh man, I messed with the tables. Hope I don't get shamed...

oh i've tried my fair share of plug-ins... but not with tnm7!

i've only just now read the descriptions for all of them. having a scaffold match would be fun but most of them don't appeal to me since i only read the match finishes. (the crowd ERUPTED when juvi climbed the ladder and got the MDMA!)

i'm assuming there is a fair amount of extendability to the game once you register. i think it's time for me to actually read the manual...

Don't read the manual, dude!! It's approximately 1680 pages long and just kills any ink cartridge. Besides real men never use manuals, it's genetic. Seriously though, it does get better with plug ins, strangely enough the interview thing works well too, but if you don't "watch" the matches then they'd probably not be for you.

One thing though, if you do register then avoid the TNM registered user message board at all costs. Last time I checked (about 3 months back) it was populated by exclusive dickheads... even worse than the Smarks message board!

http://www.drizzle.com/~kylem/tmp/16___I_Q.HTM

the funniest thing happened after this card. i made a thirty-two man no-COR, no DQ, no managers "i quit" tournament. every match in the tournament had to end with a submission. some crazy things happened. ultimo dragon made it past kane to the finals against bruno sammartino. he lost and resigned IMMEDIATELY. ha!

i've already perused the tnm message boards, at least for non-registered users. talk about your "feeling bad for being a wrestling fan" moments.

i might just yet be able to figure out how to make a "plug out" for what i want: the detailed wrestler info as html.

may the bookerman in the sky help me, i'm probably going to register.
