WWE WRESTLEMANIA XXII
LIVE Sunday April 2nd, 2006 from the All-State Arena in Chicago, Illinois

Commentary by some combination of Joey Styles, Jim Ross, Jonathan Coachman & Jerry Lawler [RAW], Michael Cole & Tazz [Smackdown] and Carlos Cabrera y Hugo Savinovich [Espanol]; Ring announcing by Howard Finkel [RAW] & Tony Chimel [Smackdown]

CONFIRMED:
World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match:
KURT ANGLE [Pittsburgh, PA; 6'2", 228 lbs; 7th Mania (3-3)] vs. RANDY ORTON [St. Louis, MO; 6'4", 240 lbs; 3rd Mania (1-1)] vs. REY MYSTERIO [San Diego, CA; 5'6", 175 lbs; 4th Mania (2-1)]
BACKGROUND: Dave Batista vacated the World Title on January 10th. RAW's Kurt Angle jumped to Smackdown that night as the mystery 20th entrant in a battle royale for the vacant title, and won after eliminating Mark Henry. Rey Mysterio drew #2 at the Royal Rumble and managed to last all the way to the end, eliminating Randy Orton to win a title shot at WrestleMania XXII. Orton saw Mysterio's elimination of him a fluke, and goaded him into putting his title shot on the line at No Way Out. Orton managed to pick up a victory by way of cheating. While Orton DID win the title shot, Smackdown GM Theodore Long gave Mysterio a spot in the main event anyway. Can Kurt Angle fight off two hungry challengers? Will the Legend Killer fulfill his destiny and regain the World Heavyweight Championship? Or will the diminative Mysterio defy the odds once again and claim wrestling's greatest prize?

WWE Championship Match:
JOHN CENA [West Newbury, MA; 6'1", 240 lbs; 3rd Mania (2-0)] vs. TRIPLE H [Greenwich, CT; 6'4", 260 lbs; 11th Mania (5-5)]
BACKGROUND: At WrestleMania XXI, John Cena won the WWE Championship from JBL and proceeded to hold the title for pretty much the last year (except for a month-long reign by Edge). At WrestleMania XXI, Triple H lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Dave Batista and proceeded to go beltless for the last year. While Cena fought off fierce challenges from current NWA Champion Christian Cage, Chris Jericho, Muhammad Hassan, Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels & Edge, Triple H bided his time and settled personal scores with Ric Flair and the Big Show. Now, after a year away, the King of Kings wants his throne back. Can The Doctor of Thuganomics fight off yet another challenge? Or will The Game claim his 11th championship?

WWE United States Championship Match:
CHRIS BENOIT [Atlanta, GA; 5'11", 234 lbs; 6th Mania (2-3)] vs. JOHN LAYFIELD [New York, NY; 6'6", 292 lbs; 7th Mania (1-5)]
BACKGROUND: Chris Benoit & JBL have been at odds since the moment Benoit got drafted by Smackdown last summer. They're polar opposites. Layfield is a pompous braggart, and prone to the limbertail. Benoit, on the other hand, never talks shit and never backs down from a fight. After finally regaining the United States Title from Booker T at No Way Out, Benoit broke JBL's hand during a 6-man tag team bout on Smackdown. Wanting revenge, Layfield got a match signed for WrestleMania XXII, pitting the Rabid Wolverine against The Wrestling God for the US Title. Can JBL get revenge for his broken hand by claiming the US Title, or will he just be another victim of Benoit's Crippler Crossface?

World Tag Team Championship Match:
KANE & THE BIG SHOW [Parts Unknown (Kane)/Tampa, FL (Show); 7', 326 lbs (Kane)/7', 500 lbs (Show); 8th Mania (3-4; Kane)/7th Mania (0-6; Show)] vs. CHRIS MASTERS & CARLITO [Los Angeles, CA (Masters)/San Juan, PR (Carlito); 6'4", 275 lbs (Masters)/5'10", 234 lbs; 1st Mania (both)]
BACKGROUND: Kane & Big Show hate each other sometimes, but recently they haven't. They won the World Tag Team Championship from Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch at Taboo Tuesday, and have defended it sporaticly ever since. Meanwhile, Carlito & Chris Masters have been at odds since New Year's Revolution, when Carlito turned on Masters in a failed effort to capture the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber. But when those guys aren't bitch-slapping each other, they're a half-decent team. And since half-decent teams are all RAW has left, they all get to fight each other!

Money in the Bank Interpromotional Ladder Match:
ROB VAN DAM [Battle Creek, MI; 6', 220 lbs; 3rd Mania (2-0)] vs. RIC FLAIR [Charlotte, NC; 6'1", 238 lbs; 4th Mania (1-2)] vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN [Orangeburg, SC; 6'2", 245 lbs; 4th Mania (1-2)] vs. 3 Smackdown participants to be named
BACKGROUND: Last year at WrestleMania XXI, Chris Jericho had the great idea of having a ladder match. It was awesome, and Edge won a guaranteed title shot within the next year...which he cashed in at New Year's Revolution...and WON the WWE Championship. So, with that in mind, Carlito came up with the idea of having another Money in the Bank Match this year, and promptly lost his qualifying match. Irony! Rob Van Dam's back, and wants some gold. Ric Flair was Intercontinental Champion for several months. Shelton Benjamin just regained the Intercontinental Championship, with some help from his Momma. Who's going to be in the match from Smackdown? Who's going to win? Who knows?!

Hardcore Grudge Match:
EDGE [Toronto, Ontario; 6'5", 240 lbs; 5th Mania (4-0)] vs. MICK FOLEY [Long Island, NY; 6'2", 255 lbs; 6th Mania (2-2-1)]
BACKGROUND: Edge won last year's Money in the Bank Match and won the WWE Championship from John Cena at New Year's Revolution. After losing the rematch (and the title) at Royal Rumble, Edge cashed in his rematch clause. But Cena had an ace up his sleeve: a special referee named Mick Foley. Unlike normal WWE referees, Foley has two eyes and a brain, and managed to see through all of Edge's wacky cheating. Since Edge couldn't cheat, he didn't win. And he was PISSED when he didn't win, taking out his frustrations via a spear on Foley. Edge thinks he's been screwed again, so he's gotten himself a Hardcore Match with Mick Foley at WrestleMania XXII. Can Edge beat a guy who hasn't been a full-time wrestler in six years?

Grudge Match:
VINCE McMAHON [Greenwich, CT; 6'2", 228 lbs; 3rd Mania (0-2)] vs. SHAWN MICHAELS [San Antonio, TX; 6'1", 225 lbs; 12th Mania (4-7)]
BACKGROUND: Shawn Michaels used to be a bad guy. He was part of the Bret Hart Screwjob at Survivor Series in 1997, but that was all Vince McMahon's fault...and it was over 8 years ago. He's since found Jesus, gotten married and had babies. He's awesome. But Vince McMahon's evil in every even-numbered year, and his target this year is Shawn Michaels...for no reason whatsoever. Can a multi-time former World Champion beat a 56-year old former World Champion...or will the combined might of the McMahon Family destroy Shawn Michaels forever?

Casket Match:
THE UNDERTAKER [Death Valley, CA; 6'10", 328 lbs; 14th Mania (13-0)] vs. MARK HENRY [Selby, TX; 6'1", 385 lbs; 2nd Mania (0-1)]
BACKGROUND: The Undertaker is 13-0 at WrestleMania. Mark Henry is big. The Undertaker's beaten big guys like King Kong Bundy, Giant Gonzalez, Diesel, Kane, Sid, The Big Show & A-Train at WrestleMania. Mark Henry can lift things. Can he lift Undertaker and put him into a casket? Can the Undertaker win for a 14th time at WrestleMania? Yes. Yes, he can.

LIKELY, NOT YET CONFIRMED:

WWE Women's Championship Match:
TRISH STRATUS [Toronto, Ontario; 4th Mania (2-1)] vs. MICKIE JAMES [Richmond, VA; 1st Mania]

Smackdown Folks Without Matches:
WWE Tag Team Champions MNM, Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms, The Boogeyman, Booker T, Finlay, Lashley, Matt Hardy & Paul Burchill. Three of the bunch will get into the Ladder Match.

RAW Folks Without Matches:
Perhaps something involving Torrie, Stacy, Victoria & Candice, but the RAW side is pretty stacked.

This actually isn't Henry's first WM. He was in the battle royal at WM14. I'm actually surprised he's only been in two; it seems like Henry has been around forever.

My bet is on Lashley, Booker and Burchill to make it into the ladder match. MNM will wrestle Hardy and his mystery partner the Boogeyman, and Helms might miss the show altogether if he hasn't recovered from his facial surgery.

"He looks like a perverted roofer who knocks off early on warm spring days to drink beer and ogle teenage girls at the river, but wrestles like a man who actually cares about his job."

Are you only listing WrestleMania matches as opposed to appearances? Eiher way, you're wrong on Trish Stratus's WrestleMania history. She's appeared in every WrestleMania since 2000.

2000 - Managed T&A.
2001 - Appeared and turned on Vince McMahon during Vince vs. Shane
2002 - Lost Triple Threat with Lita to Jazz in Toronto
2003 - Won a Triple Threat with Jazz and Victoria for the Women's Title in Seattle
2004 - Turned heel on Chris Jericho during Jericho vs. Christian
2005 - Defeated Christy Hemme

This year will be Trish's sixth WrestleMania. You might want to go over your stats for everyone else. There could be other errors.
