I had some major problems with the comic, involving stuff that they were going to introduce in this season (the prison, the governor, and the ninja). This trailer did a lot to assuage my fears. I'm now looking forward to the season again.

I think past discussions of The Walking Dead show that we have very different opinions about what we like and don't like, but my major problem with both the governor and the ninja is that they stretch the credibility of the premise. It's supposed to be a gritty examination of the real survival issues you'd face in the wake of a major, society-ending disaster (that it's zombies is more or less inconsequential). Then you basically drop Snake-Eyes into it. A magic, pop-culture style ninja with no real explanation. The governor is less upsetting to me, but I didn't find him believable as a character. The prison on the other hand, I just dislike because I felt it slowed the story down too much, and because I felt like anyone voluntarily leaving the safety of the prison for any reason was really stupid.
I am amused by you calling Michone the ninja. She is bad ass with that sword, but far from being some super fighting machine. At least nothing beyond what Rick and Tyrese do. Those two also seems to jump through every threat wielding their trusty axes.
The governor, I see your point about him not being a good character. He's a bit too...well comic book-ish with the fighting pits and such. Then again, knowing how humans can be, I wouldn't be shocked if we ended up being that insane and cruel.
But yeah, he seems more like a human being in this video. None of the rapey-murder stuff. It seems that it's only the two women who end up in the town, so that's also a nice change of pace from having Rick be involved in every little aspect of life.
Basically, I liked the story in the comics, but this looks even more interesting. Though of course the pits might still be there.
Oh and gotta love the final bit of the trailer. Uhoh
Governor actually makes the most amount of sense in that world. Eventually, someone would make himself a despot with a lot of bread and circuses of electricity and protection. Shit, its called the Third World. Michone is just really good with a sword as well as being smart enough to keep some zombies around.
Rick being alive after being in a coma for six months in a hospital full of zombies is the largest stretch of reality in the show. Once you are ok with that, girls with swords and mad god kings are fine plus you know the show being about fucking zombies.

Maybe they could flip this into a period-specific Law & Order spin-off where they investigate the Playboy Club murder. (What? It'd be better than continuing as is. And how cool would a "Law & Order: Chicago" be set in the sixties?)
