Australian band The Vines, seem to be splitting up.
Rock radio station Triple M held a small, listener-only concert last night in Australia, during which the bassist, Patrick Matthews, threw down his instrument and walked off stage after just one song.
Following this, Craig Nicholls, the band's lead singer, allegedly proceeded to trash the venue, throwing glasses at spectators, calling them "cunts" and "sheep" for being there, and kicking a photographer and breaking his camera.
antiMUSIC is reporting that breakup discussions were overheard backstage.

Damn shame if this is true, I was actually starting to get into them.

...which will be met here with a hearty "Feh". Titanic Nirvana ripoffs who really didn't do a whole lot for me... as overpushed as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, only not as talented.

Oh we can only hope! I was tired of them from the get go. Everyone wanted to be the Hives a couple of years ago. Now even the Hives aren't the Hives...
Are you ready for Mahkan-mania to run wild all over you?
[S]The Vines[/S] (something something I don't know how to do strikethrough) The Strokes The Hives
Add about a billion other bands with "The" in their names, bad haircuts and 80s style jean jackets. We still have a ways to go but The Vines breaking up is a start.
On the good news related tip, Phish broke up. I don't necessarily hate Phish's music but man oh man fuck their stupid, hippie fans..
The Vines are splitting up? Oh. Pass the butter...
If you can get hold of the copy of Kerrang with The Vines as the cover feature, you should get a fair idea of where Craig Nicholls' head is at. If he wants to act like a petulant little schoolboy, let him.

Typical Vines behavior. They aren't going to break up anytime soon.
Another interesting fact - Bob Mould originally wrote the main theme music to The Daily Show on Comedy Central. As for his work with Husker Du, Sugar, and solo work - all good stuuf.
