Had to give it a try - I could have done without the chick stuff, but that's probably because I'm a DUDE. Let's see them EAT A ROCKET. Anyway, the last fifteen minutes made up for anything not involving the DUDES. Plus the double "oh shit" reveal when (spoiler) showed up in (spoiler) with (spoiler) after (spoiler) (spoiler) the (spoiler) which I should have seen coming, in retrospect - well, the second part but not the first. Or maybe the other way round. ANYWAY. If you like "24" you'll probably like "The Unit" and let's face it, nothing else is on that hour anyway. Except "Scrubs." And "House."

Actually, ABC debuted "Sons and Daughters" at 9:00- it's been compared to Arrested Development (only with more likable characters), and got 3 1/2 stars in USAToday. I taped it (I watched "House"), and am looking forward to checking it out.

It definitely picked up in the second half. I like the way they pulled off the action sequence at the end. Haysbert's character managed to get in some good lines and they made him interesting, and I liked that moment at the end with him. Funny that one of his best moments was after he returned home.

They really do need to do something about the wives slowing down the plot. Hopefully, one of them is a secret terrorist. It's a cheap trick, but it works all the time on that 24 show.

Of course, this show will more than likely get cancelled before it can get anything off the ground, but I may be back around to watch it next week.

Oh - well, shoot. I have a TINY hunch it'll get replayed. Remind me to ask how you liked it. Eh, I'll just ask now. Howdja like it? (Please feel free to wait 'til you've seen it to answer - or even start another thread - or don't!)

It was kind of like the anti-Arrested Development (one of the boys told some hot H.S. girls to get lost when they picked on his cousin! Talk about a tight family). It's a bit of a dysfunctional family though, with the main character's sister not having sex with her husband who is into acting (sound familiar?).

It didn't have as many laugh-out-loud moments as "AD," but the main character Cameron is really likable. You kind of feel good after watching it. All in all, it's not the slapstick of the normal ABC sitcoms, but should find an audience- it's a very relatable show. I'll probably try to check it out again.

Were I brought in as a hotshot consultant or producer and asked to weigh in with my professional experience and give notes on how to tune up the show for maximum results, the memo I would draft would definitely read "More dudes, fewer chicks."

I was watching this for Mamet and Haysbert, and there was that section of the show after Haysbert and the other guy get to the airport where everything clicked and if felt like something Mamet would do, at least a bit Spartan-esque, and I got into it. That whole segment from "Which of you soldiers can show me Ranger tags?" through the arrival of the other half of the team on the tarmac("I thought you two were Black and White?" "...they're our brothers."), that was some good stuff. More of that and I'll keep watching.

I'm not really sure how much legs the home stuff can have, anyway, so maybe that was just to set up some background and motivation. They can't exactly keep having the new wife trying to reveal what the Unit is every week, so perhaps room will clear up for crazy double dealing spy stuff and people saying "Dog my cats!" and "Third prize is you're fired!" as it goes on.

One other thing, it seemed surprisingly bright, especially at the beginning (and in all the boring ads), and that kind of threw me off at the start, but I either got used to it or they toned it down as it went along.

Oh AND the "you, you and you panic..." line was either a loving homage or a direct ripoff of a line in A Shock to the System. Also, I hope Scott Foley's character says a pithy rhyme in EVERY episode.

I couldn't give it more than a half hour. The wives were very irritating, especially the highpitched voice of Haysbert's wife. I'd also like a bigger role for Robert Patrick.

I'll give it another try next week but it's on shaky ground.

Scott Foley's wife was a huge pain, just intolerable. It's like she has no conception of what her husband does or what he aspires to achieve.

I hope it gets better because the cast is very good and I'll watch anything with Robert Patrick.

Of course, he's new in the Unit and perhaps new to Special Forces. Green Beanies aren't the most talkative guys in the first place. Perhaps he hasn't told his wife his dreams, his hopes. She's tried to live normal life while he's been in training, deployed to Iraq and other places.

I don't know that I ever told my wife about the stuff i did in the Army and perhaps he hasn't either. While I have never been (or aspired to) Special Forces (Although I was a proud Ranger), I can imagine how intense a strike team like this might be. It's like no other assignment. Wives might never understand it, but they might learn to accept it eventually.

AWA, that was what I was thinking that she doesn't really know what he does, but she knows that he was selected for this special unit and it's top secret. So she shouldn't get on the phone and tell people what he's up to.

I was wondering when Fat Tony's wife died. When Marge was in the pretzel business Fat Tony's wife was very insistent he get the "pretzel monies."
