Oh yeah, first thread of the year from yours truly and guess what it's about. Before I go on, I don't hate Austin at all, but who's gonna be the Smackdown sheriff? At least buy a bigger badge, so people can, you know, SEE it?
Over the last two years, being a HHH ass kisser has never been tougher. You know the saying that what doesn't kill me makes me stronger? I can't tell you how many times I almost bit the big one. However, happening upon Raw last night (haven't watched the whole thing because I was working on my PC upgrading), I did see the promo between HHH and Austin.
These two are known for lots of stuff together, but not so much the funny promos. Good GOD, I haven't laughed that hard at HHH probably since he imitated Goldust's stuttering (not in good taste, I know, but Mama didn't raise no easily sensitive folk). Especially that laugh. That laugh brought it all back. I SO remember being stuck with the family every Friday night watching the Dukes of Hazard when I was little. Call me a nut, but it was so lame, I thought there would NEVER be anything good on TV Friday nights. Thank you, X-Files!
Back to topic, the one thing we seem to have forgotten during all the HHH bashing, is Hunter's sense of humor. I love it, and it's one of the big reasons that I was attracted to him. Since he's in Evolution, I've seen some hints of that humor more and more, and well, I think it's refreshing for him. Just my opinion, but what do you think?
After a quarter of a century on this planet, there's three things I know for sure... 1)I'm smarter than I was a year ago. 2)I'd make a fine Mrs. HHH II. 3) I'd make an acceptable Mrs. Orton. 1300 bitches and counting....
HHH had some funny moments, much of it from the McMahon/Helmsley Era:
During the initial HHH/Angle feud, one of the bits of storyline was how Angle cried when he won Olympic Gold in '96. So of course HHH exploited this in his promos, going so far to embarrass Angle by playing his tearjerking Olympic ceremony on the Titantron and mocking Angle's crying after a victory on Raw. (Angle would get the last laugh on the latter.)
Triple H would teach Trish Stratus basic wrestling moves and would end up in compromising positions while Stephanie walks in, thus creating a messy situation for all involved, which would indirectly lead to;
Triple H throwing a fit and storming off whenever Stephanie would argue with him.
Actually aside from the DX interplay stuff (more the invasion viginettes than the parody promos), the one great funny HHH moment that no one ever talks about comes from a Smackdown (March 8, 2001 after google searching the line) where they were still running the "Linda is catatonic but how can anyone tell?" angle and Steph was all mock concern and the part that kills me was HHH leaning down and saying "HI MOM!" in the loudest and most enthusiastic voice possible.
Okay, those are good, but I was actually referring to showing off his humor in promos, like the one with Kurt crying.

The first few minutes of HHH's promo on Austin was my fav part of Raw last night. No doubt. The guy has been doing the serious thing for so long, it's nice to see him come back to his DX like ways. Now did he have to go on for ten minutes and bring up every police figure from tv ever? Of course not, but he did say exactly what was on my mind about this whole sherrif garbage...I've never wanted to see Austin get his ass beaten so badly as last night. Even if HHH would have been the one to finally get the upper hand on him. But something tells me they're saving that for a certain legend killer.
Him and Shawn Michaels back in the early stages of DX. They were talking to Sgt. Chinny-McChin and they busted out saftey visors to protect themselves from the spit.
But it was 10x 'more better' when they stopped after a few more sentences and put those suction cup windshield wipers on the visors.
That still cracks me up.

I always remember Hunter doing commentary during KotR 98. After they mentioned Chyna being bi-lingual, he says (paraphrasing, I don't remember it precisely), "I'm bi-lingual, I'm bi a lot of things...wait, did I just say that?!"
I was rolling on the couch for a while after that one.

Rats. I was going to bring up the time HHH found himself staring at Angle's bare ass in a match, got that smirk on his face, and slapped it good.
But that was his best opportunity for a good promo in some time on Monday, and he capitalized big time.
Hehehe, I got that on tape actually. Lucky Kurt....

Ah, the only thing that I can truely say that Trips has done that still makes me belly laugh to this day is the Rock/Nation parody from RAW. If ya smell what the Crock is cooking. Bacon?!? I do sorta miss his funnier side.

I thought that HHH was brilliant in that entire feud, when he and Mick Foley started getting on Angle's case for being a bit cum-si, cum-sa (or however you spell that) and all that time there was still a bit of tension between HHH and Foley but it slowly eroded as they got funnier and funnier together. Until HHH did something (was it masterminding Austin's rundown?) and he went back to full heel again.
You say Foley, but you mean Rock, and yes, that was during the brilliant face turn that wasn't. Briefly seeing Rock and HHH on the same side was certainly surreal...
One of the funnier moments with Triple H last year was during his feud with Scott Steiner, particularly the edition of RAW where HHH and BPP had the arm wrestling contest. Trips spazzin' out trying to budge Steiner's arm had me freakin' howling with laughter. He looked like a grasshopper on speed!!!
HHH and Mick Foley definitely were good together when it came to comedy bits, even when HHH would play more of the straight man. During a promo in 2000, HHH and then-Commish Foley were going back and forth about something, and HHH said something to the end of, "Since we all know you're an idiot..." Foley just nonchalantly nods in agreement as HHH continued on. You could see Stephanie McMahon almost lose character. HHH definitely has comedy timing, and you can see how he can feed off of and feed others during segments like those.
There would be nothing wrong with HHH showing ass every now and then, and it's a real shame that he doesn't employ what I think is a natural proclivity for being funny. Imagine the heat HHH could get!
(And BTW, I haven't been on the board here in a while, hence the numerous posts. Hello, everybody!) :)

Speaking of things we forgot about HHH, remember when he came back as a face? HHH came back from some type of injury and everyone was cheering for him because he kept fighting, and of course J.R. was all talking about him being one of the best technical wrestlers and champions of all time...I think thats when he started feuding with Hogan. (They had a match at Backlash and Hogan won his Undisputed Championship)
Which just goes to show you how fast the fans and J.R. can turn on a superstar...

Why, yes. Yes, I did. (Cabana Boy Rum) And yes, that site is a little...you know. :-) How is this related to wrestling, you ask? Simple...at many an ACW-NWA Wisconsin show, I'll have my "office" (a cooler full of hard liquor)
