Anybody else picked this up? At its heart, it's pretty much the exact same game as the original Sims, but it has gotten a complete overhaul.

There are about 10 times more interactions between Sims, and they've added many many more animations and options for manipulating things (among them watching "Iron Chef" and "Martha Stewart" parodies on TV to increase your cooking skill and making a paper airplane out of the news paper for cheap fun points for low income familes). The neighborhoods are also about 100 times bigger and editable, and the create-a-sim is nearing the create a wrestler features on the WWE games in terms of customizabilty.

I haven't played much with the "life goals" section or the "growing old" segments, but both seem really well put together.

To me it feels like playing Sims, but if Sims were 5 times better.

See, I have this love/hate relationship with the original Sims. I got into a little "period" where I played it pretty regularly for about a week. Soon after though, I finally looked in the mirror and asked myself what the fuck I was doing with my life. Driving myself crazy trying to get my characters into this routine to end all routines so their "levels" would stay up and they wouldn't shit on the kitchen floor, slowly accumulating wealth so I could buy a jukebox or something. I actually wondered why my g/f wasn't leaving me. I uninstalled it, buried it in my closet, and vowed never to waste time like that again.

Now Sims 2 is coming out (or did, I dunno), and I admit I'm intrigued. Even though I know that, at its heart, it's the same pointless game that may cost me a friend or two. Probably cause the graphics look insane. Will the ads suck me in and strip 15 hours of my life away again? I hope not, but I'm only human...

Can you still make your Sims miserable and kill them off in sick, sad ways?

Putting them into the swimming pool, removing the ladder and waiting for the Reaper to come was always great fun

I'm Renegade Raine and I approve this message:

I always prefered to make a family of eight, trap each of them in a different room that only had a refrigerator, a food processor, a stove, and a counter. Then I have each of them keep cooking until they all eventually light the room (along with themselves) on fire. I liked to laugh at their pitiful screams as they burned down...

But The Sims 2 looks like an awesome game, I'll pick it up next time I stop by Best Buy.

And how!

Or if you REALLY want to screw them up, you can have them become so batshit insane that they lay on the floor screaming until somebody calls a psychologist (or they die) OR if they don't go THAT crazy, they invent an imaginary rabbit friend for themselves that will occasionally beat them up.

I saw the Sims 2 for $37 at Wal*Mart today. The price was listed as good through September 24th.

Yep, picked it up on friday.

It's a helluva lot better than the original, which got pretty boring pretty fast. This game actually feels a lot more real, and the daily grind is broken up by weekends, sick days, and a much deeper simulation that includes wants and fears etc.

All in all an entertaining little game, and I haven't even scratched the surface yet. Hopefully it holds up over time better than the original did.

The Sim modders are NOT making enough objects, walls, floors etc.. for me. I am almost motivated to learn how to make my own objects...but naw, I will just wait until the community start making some good shit.

I was playing this game after work until the wee hours of the morning for a couple of weeks, until I realized I had my own dishes to do and me own relationships to keep up. Their grind became more boring than my grind so one day I just stopped playing and I haven't picked it up since. The game was never as fun as the original commercials with the mixed up household with the crusty assed clown on the couch.

Weekends and changes of routines sound like a nice added touch though.
