Anybody care to speculate on what Terrell Owens will do next? Carry a can of spraypaint to tag the opposing teams logo (or even the safety who was covering him)? Seriously, there has to be some limits on how much self-promotion at somebody else's expense a player can do.

| #6 Posted on 16.10.02 1411.08 | I was thinking is this REALLY an asshole move? I mean he did make some fans day by giving him an autographed ball.On the other hand he was in Seattle so I reall have no point...lol. On the other hand Im sure he knew he would catch hell for doing that. I thought it was funny as all hell though.
And Im not defending T.O. the guy is an asshole, I wish George Teague would have broken his spine that day in Dallas. But as least he plays every down, the guy wants to win, he just wants to make sure hes getting the ball to do it. LOL.

That being said, I thought it was classic. If Shawn Springs doesn't want that to happen to him, stop Owens. Granted, I haven't heard Springs say a word and if he's not complaining, there's no reason for anyone else to.

Darn, and I was looking forward to him bringing watercolors out for the next football he scores a TD with. Maybe Owens will bust out a spinaroonie or something next week instead.

I also think he should support a promotion to every fan that brings him a audio/video tape of him saying he'd get 2,000 receiving yards. Then he could hide them away and pretend he never said that.

Walter Payton knew how to act when scoring a touchdown (act like you've been there before and expect to be there again). Owens' actions just reeked of unsportsmanlike conduct. | #11 Posted on 17.10.02 1813.56 | I think people are making a mountain out of a mole hill. This is not that big of a deal. (to me, it pales in comparison to the whole Dallas incident) How does signing a football show up someone more than the fact that he just got a touchdown scored on him? The touchdown would bother me more. Besides, Shawn Springs asked him to autograph a football for his friend (who happens to be some sort of agent for Owens anyway). Now I'm sure he didn't expect him to do it right on the field, but still.
Besides, I can't laugh at something (which I did), and turn around and say I'm offended by it. | drjayphd

Then again, I loved it the first time he ran out to the star, and how Teague knocked him out of his cleats the second time.

Sad thing is that it actually was a TD for Winnipeg, so he looked fairly stupid.

| #15 Posted on 19.10.02 1507.35 | I'm sorry, but in my opinion in a sport where your goal is to catch the guy in with the ball and smash him into the ground, sportsmanship goes out the window. Sure I can understand the whole thing where you can respect someone even while you're tackling him blah blah blah. But this sport isn't meant to be nice and gentlemenlike.
If Terrell Ownens is willing to face the consequences, which he is, then i say go for it. In his opinion nobody is going to be able to ever get a good hit on him, because he is that good. I like that kind of attitude.
Plus if they stopped this whole celebration stuff then some of football's fans would not watch. I mean come on how many kids nowadays do you see practicing end zone dances and things like that. They love the stuff.
I'm not saying those dances are necessarily a good thing, but some people think they are as exciting as the actual play.

| #16 Posted on 21.10.02 1814.14 | I think it was disgusting personally. Not as bad as the Dallas Star incident, but close. What bugged me the most about it was his comments that anyone who thought it was unsportsmanlike were racist, because blacks are "more expressive" than whites, and things like that should be OK. BS! Barry Sanders (may he burn in hell) NEVER celebrated. He gave the ball to the ref after a TD, and ran to the sideline. A little celebration is fine, who wouldn't be happy after a score? But that premeditated crap just to draw attention to yourself is pathetic. Football is a team sport, and just because YOUR position is the one where you do most of the scoring, does not mean that you deserve to hog the glory from the whole team. Try balancing that confidence with a little integrity and humility, and you will have MY respect. Otherwise, to me, Owens is just a punk kid who thinks he is hot stuff. Deion was like that. And while people wax sentimental about the likes of Dan Marino, Joe Montana, and John Elway, who really misses a guy like Deion, who was damned good, but cockier than he had a right to be? I sure don't. Mark my words- Owens will be forgotten if he keeps shit like this up....

| #18 Posted on 23.10.02 0101.56 | You are totally right- and rightfully so. There is a big difference between a finantial advisor and a kid in a wheelchair. HUGE. One is celebration, and the other is making a kids freeking life. Yup- I would be singing a different tune. But I seriously doubt THAT will ever happen in this case...

Yes, but these are the Seattle Seachickens we're talking about. Their idea of retribution will be losing by 3 instead of 7.
