Holy shit, the closer on this one was just unreal.

Antwon has Shane and Army BY THE BALLS. I figured that Antwon and his gang would get tired of Shane's shit, but I didn't see this coming.

A really good dramatic scene involving Dutch and Claudette unfolded in this episode. Claudette figured out about Dutch's backroom deal with the DA, and she wasn't happy. Dutch stood by his guns, reminding her that he was dragged down with her and really tried to do the right thing. Rawling overheard the whole thing - I can't help but wonder if Dutch's "confession" will get him farther in the doghouse with her or if it'll raise him up a notch in her eyes.

I have been pretty impressed with how they have kept the principals of the Strike Team involved in the show even though they have split up. Lem working with Juvi is in character, and it has even managed to fit into the storylines thus far. Ronnie is Ronnie, and moving Shane to the role of out-of-control corrupt cop is not only not a big stretch, but a perfect fit. Army generates a lot of sympathy, too, if for no other reason than it feels as if he's been drug into this.

It looks as if Julian is wanting to take the high road again. Well, at least it gives his character something to do. Oh, and the best scene of the night (besides the closer) was the beginning bit with Dutch on the AGC camera. 'Cause he's hungry like the wolf and all. :D

What occurred to me last night, & I'm not sure if it's been said before, is that I'm starting to feel that Shane & his partner are working some sort of undercover/sting operation to nail Antwan.

A few reasons to believe this:

1) While the Strike Team has always operated in gray areas of the law & have definitely broken their fair share, the one common thread has been their desire to "get the bad guy". It's not in character for Shane to just go work for the criminal without the upside of at least taking him down in the process.

2) It took a deep level of trust for Vic, Shane & the Strike Team to operate the way they did. It doesn't make sense that Shane would be THIS corrupt with a brand new partner in a brand new division this quickly.

3) Shane is now a husband & a father. It doesn't seem logical that he would add these responsibilities to his life & then immediately turn to an all out life of crime.

With Shane now being with vice, & Mitchell being the biggest runner of drugs in Farmington, it just feels like Shane has to be working the "crooked cop" angle to get inside & finally nail Mitchell...

I'd agree with reason #3 but only as a reason that he shouldn't be so wreckless. I disagree on 1 & 2.

For #1, Shane's taking what the Strike Team did (make deals with some of the crooks to line their pockets, get info they can use to bust other crooks so they're still fulfilling the actual law enforcement part of the job, etc) and getting greedy with it. Shane's always been greedy and never been one to think things out before he shoots his mouth off. Shane got info from Mitchell last week and made a bust based off of it. He wants what Vic had set up in the past, which was a profitable "gray area" relationship with selected criminals. The problem is that Shane isn't as smooth as he thinks he is and his being a full time asshole to Mitchell came back to bite him last night.

#2 is kind of an extension of #1 to me. Shane's out on his own in vice as his own boss, so there's no check & balance (Vic being in charge) on his greed. He's exploiting whatever he can as far as he can. I don't think that Shane's personality or motives have changed at all, it's just that there aren't the same restraints and no one to say "wait" or "there's a better way to do this." Armie's just along for the ride now (and probably wishes he wasn't), and I figure Shane had a feeling out period with him before moving into their current tactics.

About Dutch & Claudette, they're both right. She should be pissed about what he did with the DA. She should also take stock of where her stance with the DA has gotten her and Dutch. He doens't want another partner and said so outright. He was naive to think the backroom deal would work, but maybe it opens Claudette's eyes a little.

I laughed a little at the ending sequence because what Mitchell did is something right out of Vic's old playbook.

And yes, Dutch on the surveillance camera was awesome.

Von, you give some good reasons, but I think I would have to disagree as well, primarily because Shane has been a colossal fuck-up since the beginning. He has had some good moments, and Walton Goggins is a great actor, but his role has primarily been one that is around to create conflict.
Of course, time will tell.

The Hungry Like the Wolf thing is even funnier when you realize that Dutch's date actually looks a lot like the chick from the Duran Duran video.
