It looks like Sherman Helmsley's daughter from "Amen" is holding Claudette's indiscretions last season against her and Dutch, and the two are receiving little respect as a result.
Vic laying the smack down on that kid-beater was beautiful. I just marked out for the old Vic when I saw that. Not only did he give the guy a well-deserved beating, but he helped his son get away from him for a bit. I also loved the "dog with a gun" trick he used to save the rookie from an "AssChief" chew-out.
Acevada looks to be suffering from marital woes - a predictable occurrence after last season. Maybe he'll hook up with that car thief who had a crush on him.
All in all, a good episode, and Anthony Anderson and Glenn Close are a plus. I look forward to the pace picking up, though. :)| Promote this thread! | | BWT

I am really intrigued where they are going with Shane and I can't wait to see the eventual Vic and Shane face off. I second the Glenn Close love as I thought she was great and it adds some star power to the show. And I thought that was Anthony Anderson but I wasn't sure he was really good in his part too. | Roy.

Pretty good episode, but, like was said, it was kinda slow paced. It looks like Shane might be on the wrong side of the wrong side of the law, and if he's in cahoots with Anthony Ansderson's character, there's going to be some great fireworks.
Was Glenn Close's character hinting to Dutch that he should dump Claudette? Dutch is one of my favorites, but without Claudette's sanity, I might not like him as much. She keeps him relatively grounded. | Mayhem

LOL ... I thought the same thing. I said to myself "It's Thelma from Amen."
Pretty solid show. I liked what I saw of Glenn Close's character.

I was actually more curious as to the direction they go with Lem. It was clear that he's still loyal to Vic (from his refusal to bad-mouth him to Close's character, & he could be the key in the eventual Vic/Shane showdown.
On a side note, I caught "Major League 3: Back to to the Minors" on cable a little bit ago, & was laughing my butt off when I saw both Shane & Lem, as "Downtown" Anderson & Lance "The Dance" respectively. I don't think I'd ever seen either of them in anything else, & it was funny to see them both in that movie together... | orangeman

Shane and the rest of the Strike Team were always on the wrong side of the law in one way or another since the very first episode. It's more that he may end up being on the opposite side from Vic in whatever arises from the new anti-gang task force going after Anthony Anderson's character. One might consider Shane to be in the wrong if he's clashing with Vic, who's being portrayed as a more sympathetic, vulnerable character. It was very interesting how they've set that up though, where you just know from the start it will come to serious head sometime later on.
I'm also interested to see what Dutch does with the guilt by association he's suffering from due to Claudette's problem's from the DA's office. He said he believes she's right, but at the same time he's got his own ego that wants to be the top detective and not some second or third banana. Glenn Close did say to Dutch that Claudette would take him down with her, as Roy said in his post, so even as soft and vanilla as Dutch often seems (especially in contrast to Vic as a character) I think there's only so much of it he'll take before something gives.
Of course, now I have to ammend my sig since the Strike Team no longer exists.

That's why I said, in my original quote, Shane might be on the wrong side of the wrong side of the law (it's not a typo, no). I love how the show has geniuine good guys, genuine bad guys, and those in between who are just trying to either survive or keep people from killing each other. Most of the people, of course, fall in that grey area.
