That doesn't mean I hate him. I respect him, but he's not among my top 5 fav. wrestlers. However, I still hate Hogan and would cheer for Rock over him any day.

As for Austin, he's hard to figure out. As a heel, he jobs, but as a face, he never jobs. Drives me crazy...

See, that's how wrestling works. Faces aren't supposed to job cleanly, because they represent fighting with honor. Sure, it's modern-day wrestling and Austin will use a forklift and a semi truck if he has to to win, but he only does it to counteract the evil schemes he knows the heel will pull out in the match to defeat him. Austin's character was originally a heel, but turned face when he started "beeing a heel to the heels", so to speak.

Heels cheat by nature, because they represent the "easy way" of doing things. Heels are jerks for the sake of using power to their advantage and destroying the honorable babyfaces who try to win by effort and/or fight for the fans.

When HHH was a heel that won mostly clean, it deflated the crowd who wanted so much to see Mick Foley get an inspirational victory over him. It's really bad for business when you have a heel that wins clean, because that just causes the fans to give up hope and flock away, which is what they have done for the last two years.

I'm sorry, I'm trying to figure out how the match related to Rocky IV, which was, after all, a movie, where the crowd was told how to cheer. And in the context of the movie, the fans shouldn't have been chanting "Rocky Sucks", because they shouldn't be speaking English!

Incidentally, Rocky IV was filmed in and around Vancouver, so the fans did happen to be Canadian.

I just realized that I was at both Hogan's last match in Canada(vs. DDP, who we also booed) and at Wrestlemania. We loved the ending of the WM match. Seeing Hogan was so electric that he had to be cheered, and booing Rock I'm guessing was just for fun. And that atmosphere helped make the match a great one.

Geez - a guy from Minnesota telling us how much Canadians suck? Dude, Minnesotans are about as close to Canadian as you get without exchanging your passport. Chock full of hockey-loving Scandanavians suffering from wind chill... we might as well call you "New Manitoba".

I never claimed people in Minnesota were smart by any means. I mean, we elected Jesse Ventura as our Governor for God's sake! Well, actually, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but here we are 4 years later...

However, coming from the state where Hulkamania was born (AWA, brother!), I'm sure we'd see a similar reaction if WrestleMania were to be held here. We're practically a suburb of Canada.

I'm just saying that when Hogan was giving props to The Rock at the end, it was the Canadians' queue to start cheering for The Rock, but they just wouldn't have it for whatever deep down hatred they had for the guy. I mean, he's pals with Bret Hart even!

Knowing Rock does job added an amount of unpredictably that was absent in other matches, surely?

I mean I predicted Rock would win, but I didn't think that was any more than a 60-40 guess at best. How certain did you feel about it? I'm not saying this to knock you, I'm genuinely interested.

Come to think of it, do you think Vince would have hire Hogan unless his dropped his bullshit backstage politics? And also b/c I'm a prophet

let me make this more clear. As heel, it seemed that Austin did what the fed asked of him, but as a face, he seems to refuse to do what he's asked from time to time. I have no proof of this though.

As for the way face and heels work, I know that. Faces aren't supposed to job cleanly. Correct. But many people say that Rock jobs clean as a face. Explain that. I find the way heels and faces work to be boring from time to time and the matches get more predictable. But that's my opinion

Wow, you're right. Curse those 'dumb' fans for turning what could have been a dog vomit match into something truly memorable, and probably one of the top two or three Wrestlemania moments. Screw the 'dumb' fans for wanting Bret Hart back - next time you're griping about the latest shitty Raw, picture your main event as The Hitman taking on Rock or Angle. Screw the dumb fans for appearing apathetic towards the rest of the Wrestlemania card - has it occured to you that maybe the rest of Wrestlemania just wasn't that damn good, and the reaction was deserved?

Methinks the Canadian fans are more ahead of the curve than you give them credit for.

I think Vince would hire anyone that would make him money, politics or not, then try and control them afterwards. I guess we'll never know now though.

That's utterly true. The arguement about wrestling being a morality play where heels and faces act a certain way is moot now, and has been since Vince entered the "shades of grey" phase. Why can't a heel win cleanly over a face? It would only a be a natural progression of the evolution of the sport, and would make things way more interesting and (dare I say it?) more realistic and sports-like.
