Talk about a MAJOR thing for TNA if this can be pulled off. Wonder if this would be to get back at Vince for letting his contract expire?

Seriously, though, methinks it's just a way to get a new deal with WWE. Rock fakes interest in TNA, WWE gets scared and offers him a new deal. Easy as that.
If The Rock indeed appears at a TNA show, he probably won't wrestle. It could be a quick boost to TNA but if the Rock is only a one-time deal, it won't lead to anything.

I dunno, if TNA is now taping 3 hours worth of Tv in one day, the Rock might be up for that. He also has ownership (possibly co-ownership) of the name now so I think hed be willing to do it.

What in the world would The Rock possibly have to gain from doing this??
He's trying to make a career as a serious actor & move away from being viewed as a "wrestler-turned-actor". Why would he jeopardize what he's been able to accomplish thus far by appearing on a second rate promotion?!?
Unless Rock's acting career takes a serious nose-dive (and it doesn't seem likely to happen soon), the only way we'll see Rock in a wrestling ring is maybe an occasional pop-in to a WWE ring. I would be shocked if we saw him anywhere else... | Mayhem

Orlando isn't much a drive from Miami, it's also widely known that the Rock still wanted to do the occasional appearance in wrestling, he just wouldn't be able to do it full time. I don't think he'd mind Every first tuesday to tape and wrestle and one Sunday to work a main event. plus he might be able to get his match with Sting after all.

Best put right there...No chance in hell (no pun intended) would Vince let his biggest star (in terms of how well-known he is) ease on over to his competitor. I'm sure The Rock is a smart man. If Vince counteroffers with twice (or hell maybe 3-4 times) of what TNA is offering him, why would the Rock take less money and at the same time jeopardize his reputation by going to a second-rate promotion?

| #12 Posted on 17.3.05 1536.57 | Instant Rating: 8.46 | Hogan did the same thing when Vince said he wouldn't use him again, and they played a funny game of chicken: Vince whether he'd let TNA get the kind of exposure that could accidentally turn a non-factor into competition, and Hogan on whether or not he'd lower himself to headlining a PPV against Jeff Jarrett. Ultimately, Vince won when Hogan pulled out of doing the show for knee surgery that simply could not be put off.
But I think it's smart and funny on Rock's part. If Vince (or his jealous rival, cryptic-cryptic) wants to freeze him out of Mania, he might as well give them and their hilarious paranoid insulation (see the David Sahadi interview) a friendly poke in the eye. Especially at a make or break time for the competition with whatever slim hopes they have of getting on Spike. | BigSteve

Listening to the Wrestling Observer Live the last few weeks, I've heard Meltzer say a couple times that "jealousy is a bitch." I'm assuming that this is in reference to HHH, but has there been anything more specific in the Observer about this situation, or is this just kind of educated speculation?

I don't think money has anything to do with it at this ponit. If The Rock was concerned about money, he could always just sign on for one more movie and put both company's offers to shame. This is one wrestler that's not hurting for cash.
If The Rock wanted to do it, it would be for personal reasons. Maybe bitterness, maybe the 'jealousy' that some have said he's had to deal with in the WWE, maybe something else, but while money would be a nice bonus for him, it won't be a deciding factor for the guy.

However, what he misses about wrestling is the live crowd, which he was vocal about in his recent conversation with Meltzer or Keller or whoever it was. He loves the energy of a live performance. I'm not so sure if 1200 people is the kind of crowd he's talking about.

There has been specific educated speculation. The gist is that Hunter, who has always been Rock's rival since they came up at the same time and competed for the spot as the A#1 star, used his use of Vince's ear to say "hey who does this guy think he is, Mr. Hollywood wants to use your company as his playground whenever he feels like showing up? You're still the boss, the playground belongs to you, you're Vince McMahon, damn it." And Vince was like "you're right, I am Vince McMahon, damn it." | CANADIAN BULLDOG

Ha! I can SO see that exchange as a backstage vignette on Raw. Particularly the last line from Vinnie Mac.
Of course, then you'd have to have the camera pan out to see Rock standing in the hallway, overhearing every word...
