Okay, time to bring out my geeky side (as if it was ever really hidden), but the Rock is way off-base with these accusations ... Peter Parker is SUPPOSED to be a skinny nerdlinger; that was so all of his wimpy little comic-book fans could look at him and consider him "one of them".
Of course, as someone on FARK pointed out, this could just be the Rock cutting another one of his classic emasculating "heel" promos to gain the attention of the producers of the next "Spider-Man" sequel (perhaps he's angling for an audition for the role of Venom?) ...

He can pass... somewhat... as a college student but they'd need to bring in a Gwen Stacy for him to hit on and for her to get grossed out over.
...it COULD work, but not with Sam Raimi still running the show, he'd NEVER go for it.

Also, when's the last time a movie STARRING the Rock made over a $100 million in the US? Never.

Yeah so? Tobey Maguire didn't star in a movie that made over $100 million in the US before Spiderman and Spiderman seems to be doing alright with him in it.

He's in the new upcoming movie adaptation of Doom with Rosamund Pike and Karl Urban, which is going to suck WITH hyperbole.

Maybe not ... Although I thought the Lizard was confirmed as being in the next movie (from semi-spoilers I read concerning SM2, haven't actually watched it yet).

Of course, one could point the same thing to many other "hot" action guys right now. Colin Farrell hasn't had top billing in a movie that has topped $50 million, yet he's considered a major movie star. As far as anyone can tell, Rock's movies have all made tidy profits for the studios once all the theatrical and rental grosses are in, which will keep him employed for a good long time, since his movies aren't all that costly.

There was a quote that Raimi got really mad about because someone leaked that one of the next characters introduced will be wearing "Black and White". At the same time Raimi was also in the press talking up how much he disliked the character Venom. Combining those two facts with that interview (jeez I'd hope Sam wouldn't be so clueless about the character if it was actually IN his movie) leads me to believe that the Black Cat is in SM3.

I wouldn't mind seeing Felicia as a secondary character, but not as the main antagonist-I think that'd sink like a lead balloon, especially after the massive operatics of Ock in Spidey 2. Buuut, seeing as Sam keeps dropping those hints (the "black and white" crack, the "...or woman" comment), and seeing as how he seems to want to make Peter grow and such-which being tempted by a devilish other woman would do-it seems the most likely option. Bah.

| #11 Posted on 4.2.05 2120.02 | Instant Rating: 3.29 | Black Cat was in drafts of the Spider-man 2 screenplay which I guess they sort of utilized for the movie videogame, but they didn't end up using her. Her presence might've been appropriate in the second movie, but it was better without her. I think putting her in the second movie would've ruined its fluidity and time with Doc Ock. I don't think she would fit in the third movie either since it should clearly be about the climax of Peter and Harry's relationship up to that point. Or at least that's the direction the movies clearly seem to be going in.
