For me, one thing I've started to notice is, that until Rock mentions his opponents, I'm totally numbed to the humor of his promos. During that whole part where he was hating on Coach I was waiting for it too end, because it was too darn long. Now, the second half, when he mentioned Lesnar and Flair, THAT was gold. But other than that, I'm tired of promo Rock.

I didn't notice how tired I was getting of his promos until that AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL, (I can't stress this enough) Rock/Bustah promo on Smackdown a few weeks ago. It feels like he's recycling old material to me. Rock has to sing, hate on the interviewer or tell funny jokes. I don't mind the funny jokes when it's about his opponent so much. But what does hating on Coachman do besides waste my time?

He's still a good in the ring, though. And I ALWAYS look forward to his matches (especially the pay per view, stuff). And I don't know what it is, he's got that Mick Foley quality where I ALWAYS care about his feuds. They just seem more important.

I don't know, maybe I'm the ONLY one, but is anyone else tired of the stand-up routine?

And I still treasure his older promos as classics. The Jericho/Rock first confrontation is a CLASSIC. His original Kevin Kelly/Michael Cole Hermie/T-shirt on the head stuff was funny. But, now, I'm just kind of tired of it. But, the straights eat it up, even though it seems to be to be a rehash of things he's done a millions times before. Feel free to agree, disagree.

EDIT: And one last thing, it really SUCKS, they can't turn this guy heel again (because it'd probably hurt his box-office, and the crowd doesn't want another Austin fiasco). Because his stuff with Flair and Hogan when they boo him is CLASSIC. I only WISH they could turn him. His character's almost better as a heel. He's certainly funnier. Maybe it's because he doesn't have to restrain himself when he's a heel.

I RESPECT your opinion. Please respect mine. Or feel the wrath of Buddha!

J-Lo and Ja' Rule are the worst singing/rapping duo I've ever seen in my life (my response to the "totally live" performance of that annoying "Ain't it Funny" song at last year's VMA's. The show where everybody goes home happy and the winner's aren't really winners, they're just people randomly selected based upon their pop status).

First of all, love the signature, I sing better than J-Lo. I agree, these Rock promos put me to sleep faster than a bad HHH match. Last week with Eddie Guererro was hilarious though, it was great, but mostly because of Eddie. However last night's was soooo long and soooo boring. Is anyone is as nervous as I am, when we have to hear descriptive accounts of anal sex with a cow??? With sound effects? That made me remember that RAW with that promo about the deer, ewwww.... Real entertaining, Rock. See you in Helldorado.

I'll leave you with one of my all time favorite HHH quotes... Uh.... Oh, yeah:

"You can't make me come just by telling me to."
To one Stacy Keibler who, of course, didn't know what he meant by that. Try me out Hunter, I'll change your mind!

I do respect your opinions, I just have a different one.

The Rock cracks me up. Maybe we have similar senses of childish humor, maybe it's because he vaguely reminds me of my buddy. I don't know, I really enjoyed his promo last night - so much so I found myself pulling out one if his old quoates last night, "No on cuts a promo like The Rock" (except maybe Flair).

I guess the difference is, that his old routine (slightly spun, but mostly the same) doesn't get old for me. If it does for you, I can see where you're coming from.

I agree that he's better (and funnier) when he's actually talking about an opponent and not just flapping his gums about nothing much. But even the gum-flapping parts of his promos have not been as bad as they were his first day back. The thing with Busta Rhymes was just excruciating. Just an off night, I think.

To me, The Rock's promos have been stale and/or unfunny for a long time.

In some old Rock tape I have, they show what is probably his worst promo ever. He says "genetically electrifying" over and over again. Simply dreadful. I reviewed it over at weeklyvisitor.com if you wanna see just how bad it was.

The promo last night: awful. I'm glad I was drinking and therefore quickly began to talk about baseball during it, so I didn't have to experience its full crappiness.

Whoever is writing the stuff for him needs to give their head a shake. As was stated, the last part of the interview was great, when he was talking about Flair.

Why-o-why does he need to talk about masturbation and sex with cows. It so detracts from his character. There must be something better he can do to get rid of the interviewer than that. Something a little more normal.

It certainly doesn't get the Coach or whoever the SD guy was over!!!

I was in tears laughing with him calling Coach a sick freak. I find those bits absolutely hilarious. The Rock always seems like he's so pumped up for those promos.

Like I said, I totally agree, I suppose it all depends on your sense of humor and your tolerance for silliness and immaturity. Two things I hope I never lose.

It was the strut! I loved the damned strut. When they cut away and then came back the the empty promo room i thought oops...boo boo. But then The Rock comes out doing the Flair strut with a goofy ass face and me and everyone else in front of the Box jut died laughing.

I love the Rock just for the disdain and lack of respect that he shows people. As for his promos, I don't think anyone is writing them for him. He already has the same basic formula for a promo. It consists of The Rock making fun of his opponent or anyone else around while talking in third person and using words like cows anus and llamas nipple. His humur is childish because that's the kind of audience he is catering too. If you want sophisticated adult comedy watch Dennis Miller.

Count me in the group that likes the promos. Last night's was long, but it was entertaining. His facial expressions when Coach wouldn't let him move on were very good. I think he is bringing tons of energy to the show with his promos, even if parts of them are pointless.

I'm in the group that's getting tired of his promos that have nothing to do with his opponents. i nearly wanted to shoot myself last night when that cow promo was going on and on and on... In my eyes, the only good part about it was when coach tried to be all quiet "... Rock it was just one time..." Haha. Coach is messed up. I do miss the Rock and his $300 shirts talking about shining up various objects, turning them sideways, and sticking them up places.
(unrelated note, remember a little while ago when Rock had coach dancing goofy and then kicked him in the butt to get him off camera? Coach can be so goofy, he cracks me up sometimes.)
a while back someone made a comment about how they were doing old-school promos on velocity with just the wrestler and no interviewer. it almost seems like they are doing it with the Rock since he kicks the interviewer out lately. I like that old-school flava.

Face Rock ran its course by WM. People not only booed him but chanted "Rocky sucks". People may say that was due to Hogan, but I think it was both things. I still think Rock needed to turn nWo there.

Anyway, they immediately matched Rock up in an insta-feud with Vince to rebuild his face heat on draft nite. Then he went on haitus which always refreshes a character.

But I still think all of that is only putting off the inevitable. The fans are gonna turn on Rock because he's just too mean to people. His natural state is a heel. The double exposure he's getting on both shows thanks to the fed title could speed that up. but of course if he keeps going on hiatus it may never happen.

Last night, it seemed like the whole arena was booing him during the match, which had me suprised, but then they popped like hell when he won. I guess they can have their cake and eat it too.

Let’s put it this way, if Rock had been around since WM and the stuff with Hogan and hadn’t gone off since then, he wouldn’t be getting the reactions we see now. Last night’s promo made me crack a smile at the end, but crack a smile is not much of a big deal. They are no longer innovative. It’s like when Wayne Newton does a show in Vegas, sticking to the game plan that made him a star, never exploring new options. That’s what I call being a hack. Rock’s promos used to be a highlight of Raw, back in the days when the WWE wasn’t “stale” and we were seeing the Dudleys and the Hardys for only the fiftieth time. Back when Triple H was only in 8 segments a night. Back when Eddy Guerrero was in the only good angle of his career…The engaged to Chyna angle. Back when Chris Benoit talked every week for some reason. Back when Ross would tell us, with an implied wink and nudge, that Bradshaw is…hohoho…hahaha….oh….get this…an ATHLETE! HAHAH! That JR, and his sense of humor. Oh yes…Those were the days. I may have stepped on my own point there, but Rock was solid in those days. THESE days, the rest of the undercard is as, or more, entertaining than him so the contrast isn’t what it once was. And I am against putting the strap on some part-time wrestler. I don’t care if he is the Rock. His latest interview at WWE.com where asked if he could work TV’s during a movie filming schedule and he responds ‘absolutely not’ kind of gives away the result of Summerslam. He HAS to lose the belt before ‘later this summer’. So screw him. He’s a great worker, so just have him come back in title matches and not win until he makes some kind of commitment to the wrestling business and decides to stay in it for, say, two whole months for a change.

Rock turn nWo? Pardon me while I puke. Plus he just woulda' left anyways. Rock/nWo promos from the set of Helldorado? Ugh. Rock hosting Late Night with Jay Leno? Ugh.

As for Rock turning, I WOULD like to see him turn heel, but personally, I don't think it's him hating on people that keeps the fans from liking him. It's because he holds back. I still think the most over version of Rock was heel Rock and that was because he didn't hold back. That and his act was still original.

Personally, I think the FACT that he DOESN'T act like heel Rock is what holds him back. His promos then kill anything he does today. That and it was after he turned back face that he would start to recycle more and more and more and more material. He's showed flashes of heel Rock. I personally think as a heel he doesn't old back ANYTHING, and it's THAT that's magic. When he did that heel act with Hogan when people were booing him I could only refer to it as CLASSIC. It's just funnier when he's actually hating, which was heel Rock. I don't know, him calling Austin trash was the first time I'd ever heard anyone go over Austin in the promo respect.

I still consider the heel versions of Austin and Rock to be the best versions.

I do think that the Rock is the best mic man in the WWE, except for maybe Flair. He has so much energy doing promos- The Rock is NOT the problem here. It's the writers who keep having him do the same stale old shit time and time again. The Rock is by far the most charismatic wrestler going since Austin walked, and his promos could be really, really good if he started to do some new stuff. I really did like the Flair strut he did last night, though. That was pretty cool.
