I don't really care what the marks, smarks, smarts, or anyone else thinks. I like Benoit and that's all that matters to me.

I also liked Lance Storm in ECW and WCW but, I'm not entertained by his tag team with Regal, even though I've also enjoyed Regal in the past.

As for some of the others mentioned:

- They couldn't even consider getting rid of Jim Ross or Jerry Lawler because they have NOBODY ready to replace them. I admit that I much prefer Paul Heyman to Lawler but, would Heyman be interested in doing that full time? Plus, Jim Ross does a lot of work behind the scenes.

- Billy Gunn has some worth as a tag team guy if they can match him up with the right partner.

- Hardcore Holly is the guy that the WWE usually uses to test the newer wrestlers in the WWE. That means that he has value beyond what we as viewers see.

- Kevin Nash has mentioned (jokingly maybe) possibly coming back as Diesel. Doesn't exactly thrill me but, who knows? Maybe they can make that work.

I don't think cutting developmental talent would save much -- they're certainly not being lavished with pots of money. And it could be counterproductive in the long run; if you cut the developmental talent, where are you going to get the superstars of the future? Tough Enough?

While it's true that most developmental guys are more likely to turn out to be the next Chuck Palumbo or 3 Minute Warning, all WWE needs is to find the occasional Lesnar or Angle among them to turn a profit.

Anyway ... me, I find Lance Storm dull and think it's past time Regal hung it up and became a trainer, but that's just MODO.

The developmental talent was a good idea when there was a WCW around but now there really is no point to paying the guys. Although, I think its good to atleast support the OVW territory to have a place to send guys to get their timing back after an injury. The guys do get a chance to work in front of the camera so it's not all that bad.

Then they go a defeat the whole purpose of trying to develop talent by bringing them up before they've developed. (Batista, Cena, 3MW)

Don't all these guys have contracts? Wouldn't you have to buy-out their contracts to release them anyway? That's not exactly a big cost savings, outside of the theory that you want to take tax deductions (and thus apply costs) as quickly as you can. I'm not sure this would make the company as far as profits go.

Why is there such a huge hatred for 3MW? Is it b/c one day Scott Keith woke up and decided not to like them? I think they are pretty freaking cool. Guys that huge flying around...that's some good stuff.

Batista and Cena rock the Casbah as well. Cena just needed to find a marketable gimmick other than "intense rookie" and Batista is going to have greatness ahead if he stays aligned with Flair.

I also just want to say that InVerse is one brave bastard for going onto an internet msg board and saying cut Chris Benoit. While I don't agree with it, that takes some guts!

My hate for 3MW started when the cracked Looney Lane's rib. Not to mention giving Pat Patterson a serious shoulder injury. They've been so sloppy, with the Rumble performance downright embarassing. Any non-gimmick match they're in they just seem lost out there, and do a collection of the same spots.

Cena is getting there but he seems like he could've used another 6 month to a year in OVW. We haven't seen Batista really have a match other then a 1-2 minute deal so I'll reserve judgement until then.

Pardon me, but it would be ABSOLUTELY RETARDED to cut Kevin Nash from the roster. He's a well-recognized wrestler and every time he appears, whether stepping out of a limo or introducing HBK, he gets MONSTROUS pops. I don't care how bad the IWC thinks he sucks, it doesn't matter. The guy is awesome in the eyes of the marks, and they are who matter.

Nash is a money pit, he got 600,000 for a failed angle, two matches and two major injuries from being out of shape.

Nice thread, not too much just yelling out the names of guys we dont like personally..

The reason I named Holly, Storm in my earlier post is exactly the same as some stated later.
These guys might rule but make no impact in the company and nobody -except their limited fanbase and families- would feel the affects if they were gone.
Especially Holly who has been injured for most of the past two years or off tv cos of Tough Enough.

Would I like to be taught by Billy Gunn? The guy might not be the best wrestler in the world but do not underestimate his knowledge to build matches. I really enjoyed some of the C&B stuff when Billy was in the ring.

But, as someone said, just buying out contracts isn't an option..and apparently it will not save them money or else we would have seen it happen by now.

This is a bit biased for obvious reasons, but basically non IWC fans see things on a superficial level, how things are.
Whereas IWC fans see deeper, why things are the way they are.

Furthermore,a lot of what makes a good wrestler good is to do with putting his opponent over rather than glorifying himself.

So for example, a big wrestler tosses around a little wrestler. Non IWC fan sees this and thinks"that big guy is great look at how powerful he is". IWC fan sees the same thing and thinks"that little guy is great look at how well he bumps and sells".

That is why they are "Smart" fans. they know who is really making the match entertaining.

Using sentonBOMB's example. HHH and Benoit both get injured, the quality of the show goes down. Non IWC fan doesn't know how things work so he assumes it's because of the absence of the big star, but IWC fan is aware of how much Benoit was contributing really and bemoans his loss.

This isn't a great example because pre injury HHH was very good and in any case the crappy booking probably had more to to do with the quality dropoff, but I'm just using it to illustrate my point.

Saying that someone is a good wrestler but that they aren't entertaining makes no sense because good wrestler=someone who has entertaining matches, that's what makes them a good wrestler, the two things are inseperable.

To quote theUnseenPower"Casual wrestling fans may not care about Benoit, but I have not met one that doesn't think that his matches--especially the recent Angle/Benoit title matches--have ruled."

Exactly. Benoit is entertaining the casual fans, but they just aren't making the connection. The reverse is true of some bad wrestlers who are over.

Sometimes people talk about psychology, matwork and so on as if they only entertain Smarks, but really they are the building blocks of a match that is more entertaining for everyone than just a random collection of moves and spots.
But only the Smarks know why one match was more entertaining than the other.

The WWE has $445.7 MILLION DOLLARS in total assests as of the last financial quarter (Observer)- by far the richest wrestling promotion EVER!!!

The guys you're talking about make roughly between $75 - 400K

So the point of this discussion would be?

Unless you think that cutting Storm, Holly, Nash, Benoit etc.. would improve the quality of food served on his private jet

I, too, would just like to state my fondness for the 3MW. They've got a unique look, a really rather spiffy entrance track, some great signature spots and, above all, they're new faces. I'm willing to cut them some slack whilst they get themselves in gear-especially considering what I've seen out of 'em on some indy show tapes.

Best part of the show, easily. Of course, that's not saying much. And we got our Berserker fix.
