Since the WWF/E is in the midst of losing money, here are a few names that could be dropped from the payroll, turning the losses into profits.

Kevin Nash: Is there any doubt that if he comes back, he will break down within two matches? The NWO gimmick for him is deader than a Von Erich, and he has never made money as a SINGLES wrestler.

Mark Henry: As long as he is around, Vince can never be referred to as a genius. Considering Vince found a way out of Bret Hart's twenty year contract within one year, how has he not found a way out of Mark Henry's 10 year contract in over 6 years? For anyone who wasn't watching in the mid 90's and wonders why some of us say Vince could go out of business, decisions like this are the reason.

Jerry Lawler: He's a parody of his former self. He is a detriment to the ratings. If Vince wants to avoid having to pay severance, entrap him near an elementary school. It worked in '93 on him.

X-pac: Oops, sorry. Reflex.

Alpo: Worthless.

Godfather: Gimmick is dead. Has found a way to stick around for over 10 years(actually, at this point, is he second to Taker in service time?) He's about one gimmick away from Darsow/Leslie territory.

Terri: Except for the deep interviews she has with Kane, what does she accomplish other than taking up space.

Bossman: He's still on the payroll. Get rid of him before he ends up back on TV.

Jim Ross: The business has passed him by. Bring in someone in the front office to replace him, and bring is someone to take his spot on RAW. In the past year, the two solid "JR guys" have abandoned the company(Foley,Austin). No reason to keep JR around any longer.

Billy Gunn: Much like Godfather, he's been around for a decade, and I don't see much upside left in him.

Brief list, would like to consider others, but if they hold a title, its tough to see Vince getting out of their contract.

Edit: How could I leave off the list the two Jackie's. The veteran Jackie, otherwise known as the female Alpo. And of course, Gayda herself, who might be in the top 5 for the most useless ever award.

First, you know as well as I do that it's not just a matter of 'lets kick this guy of the roster'

and second, why do we always want to throw out the guys that MIGHT do something useful in the company but that we dont happen to like in the ring?
(with we i mean some people, do not be offended or care to respond if we doesnt include you *grin*)

If cuts NEED to be made in the roster, then why not get rid of guys like Storm, Regal, Hardcore Holly, Crash Holly?
Decent wrestlers who will not climb much higher than they are right now and for all I know, they could be making twice the $ that for instance godfather makes.

I would actually keep someone like Bossman or Gunn for the simple reason that they can transistion into trainers and agents just like that. We are talking about a man who has been around for about 20 years and has lots of knowledge of the business, and a guy who should be considered as one of the best tag wrestlers in the federation ever.

I agree on some of the folks you name though, I wouldn't mind seeing them go, but not to cut costs..

If the Storm/Regal tag team doesn't work out, it might be time to consider cutting losses with them. Would anyone like to see future wrestlers trained by Billy Gunn? That would be a scary sight. As for Road Agents, that's why I left Ron Simmons off the list.

Edit: And, most importantly, how could I leave Kevin Kelly and his wife off the must go list. I mean, someone has to get the blame for Katie Vick, and since Kevin Kelly's wife loved it, he should be the one to take the fall.

Vince's way out of Bret's contract was to get Bret to back out of it. Mark Henry's not giving up his easy money.

Why not cut Lance, Regal, and the Hollys? How about because they can wrestle, they are entertaining, and people like them?

Oh but you're right, the entertaining people make too much money so let's cut all of them, let's cut the Hurricane and Knoble too, or Matt Hardy and instead we'll push sucky cheap people like Maven and the other Tough Enough people who won't amount to anything.

I don't "like" and I am not "entertained" by Storm or any of the Hollys. They bore me to death. I respect their work-rate but I don't really give a damn about it,as it isn't really relative to their ability to entertain me.

I do like Hurrican, Noble and both Hardys ... but I enjoy Maven and Harvard Chris as well.

I think it's a little pushy of you to assume that they "won't amount to anything."

Almost everyone on this list still has something to offer. Profits being down doesn't mean Vince should round up all the ten year veterans and send them packing. And how much do they make anyway? I think we should just leave the cutting to Vince.

Everything is going to be just fine.

They should cut Benoit, it's pretty much proven that he'll never amount to anything and I guarantee he's making more than most of the other people mentioned in this thread. He was a good comic foil for Kurt Angle for a short while but that had very little to do with Benoit. Angle could put on a good show with Eric Watts as his partner. Benoit is pretty much dead weight in the WWE now. Sure, he's a good technical wrestler but what good has that ever done him?

It would be hailed as such on the Internet but I bet 90% of wrestling fans who don't spend time on wrestling sites would never even notice he was gone.

i would definitely have to go with you on this one. i was talking with a "mark" friend of mine (God i hate using that word, it makes me sound so pretentious) about wrestling a while back, when hhh and benoit were both injured, and he was like, we really need hhh back. the wwf is lacking without him. and i was like, yeah and benoit too. he's like, eh, i could care less about chris benoit. and he's right; compared to the personality of a hhh or a rock, benoit is really not very entertaining if you aren't big on "technical wrestling workrate," which i personally am not all that concerned with either.

(edit: fixed grammatical error. yes, i'm that anal.)

It is true that no one who doesn't check out the wrestling websites care about Benoit. I've had conversations similar to what sentonBOMB was referring to. Why is it that there is such a disparity between what the IWC and the non-IWC admires in a wrestler anyway?

Doesn't anyone remember how much the match quality suffered when Benoit was out? Sure he's never gonna be a charismatic main event draw but cutting the best worker in the world is idiotic.

Not everyone in wrestling is supposed to be a Main Eventer. Benoit's role has always been to provide great matches for guys that are getting the push to make them seem better then they actually are.

Casual wrestling fans may not care about Benoit, but I have not met one that doesn't think that his matches--especially the recent Angle/Benoit title matches--have ruled.

But we're not talking match quality, we're talking profits. How much money do you truly think Benoit brings in for the company? I doubt they'd lose much in the way of merchandising (and granted, his t-shirt sucks) and I don't suspect there'd be even a noticeable drop in buyrates or ratings. So if you're cutting people for the purpose of making a profit, it only makes sense to cut the people with the highest salaries who aren't going to cause a negative impact in your profits by disappearing.

The guys like Benoit, Guerreros, Noble, Matt Hardy, Jericho, Christian, etc are more valuable then you'd think. The overall quality of the shows would plummet without a solid midcard and in turn would cause drops in profits. You start cutting them you cut the heart out of your promotion. Take a look at WCW. Oh we can afford to let Raven, Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko, Jericho, etc go because they're just midcarders.

As far as Benoit's drawing power, his PPV Main Event against Rock did a great buyrate. His and Jericho's feud with Austin helped bring ratings back up after Undertaker & Kane were killing them.

Cutting salaries to increase profits in WWE is a joke, IMO because the guys get paid peanuts compared to the revenue they generate for the company.

"As far as Benoit's drawing power, his PPV Main Event against Rock did a great buyrate. His and Jericho's feud with Austin helped bring ratings back up after Undertaker & Kane were killing them."

This type of statement is as shortsighted as Vince looking at a non-HHH Raw and saying "Well the ratings were high due to the PROMISE of HHH being there". The figures for these shows are from 1-2 years ago, and none of us have, at our fingertips, the material needed to make a judgement over whether Benoit and Jericho were the deciding factors in said ratings. Ergo, they should not be used to debate their drawing power. in fact, this whole debate is pointless because it's impossible for us, as fans, to come to a conclusive decision on who draws and who doesn't. We just don't have the necessary information.

And in fact, I doubt that anyone outside of bona fide "Name" guys like Hogan, Austin, Rock and Taker have any sway in whether or not someone will buy a ticket to the show. The only possible exception to that theorem is Rey Mysterio. Seriously, do you really see a fan saying "Well, I have no interest in the rest of the card but Rikishi's there so I'm willing to spend $50 on a ticket." Doesn't happen, folks, it just doesn't happen.

That was my point with cutting guys like Benoit. You won't necessarily have people paying JUST to see them but you'll get people paying to see the great overall show that they provide. Especially now when there isn't an Austin or Rock around.

Oh, I agree with you about cutting the midcard guys-if anyone should be cut, it's the scores of developmental talent that they're never going to get around to using. I never understood that; keeping guys on the payroll on the off-chance that you may wanna use them at some point. Why not just sign 'em when you have plans to use 'em? My point was that it is a fruitless excercise to try and predict who's drawing and who's not.
